Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – November 6, 2024

The Glendale Desert Dogs split a seven-inning twin-bill with the Scottsdale Scorpions on Tuesday. Thomas Saggese went 2-for-6 including a double, plus a walk and a run scored. Leonardo Bernal and Nathan Church also appeared.



Results from the Arizona Fall League games played Tuesday, November 5.

Glendale Desert Dogs 5 at Scottsdale Scorpions 3 (seven innings, game one)

The Desert Dogs beat the Scorpions by the score of 5-3 in the first game of a twin bill on Tuesday. This was the resumption of Sunday’s game suspended due to rain. Two Cardinals participated. Second baseman Thomas Saggese hit third in the lineup. Leonardo Bernal entered at catcher and hit eighth.

In four plate appearances, Saggese doubled with a walk and a run scored. He struck out swinging in the first inning on Sunday.

In the third, Saggese grounded out to the shortstop. He drew a walk in the sixth and scored on a grand slam by Otto Kemp of the Phillies.

In his final at bat in the seventh, Saggese doubled to left but was stranded on second base.

Bernal went 0-for-3. As play resumed in the second inning, the catcher pinch hit for Sunday’s starter at catcher and grounded out to the shortstop.

In the fifth, Bernal lined out to first base. He flied out to center field in the sixth in his final at bat.

No other Cardinals saw action.

Glendale is 13-10 on the AFL season.

Glendale Desert Dogs 0, Scottsdale Scorpions 6 (seven innings, game two)

The Desert Dogs were shut out by the Scorpions in Tuesday’s regularly scheduled contest.

Two Cardinals participated. Right fielder Nathan Church hit second and designated hitter Thomas Saggese batted third.

Church went 1-for-3. In the first inning, Church hit an infield single to second base. He was eliminated in a double play by Saggese.

In the third inning, Church flied out to left field. In his final at bat in the fifth, Church grounded out to the shortstop.

Saggese was 1-for-3. In the first inning, he grounded into a double play.

In the third, Saggese singled to left field, but was caught stealing for the final out of the inning. In his final at bat in the fifth, he struck out swinging.

No other Cardinal appeared in Game 2.

Glendale is 13-11 for the AFL season.

Wednesday’s game:  vs. Surprise Saguaros, Jose Acuna RHP (0-0, 2.70) vs. Zak Kent RHP (2-0, 4.97) 3:30 CT.
