The Glendale Desert Dogs beat the Mesa Solar Sox, 9-7, on Friday. Three Cardinals appeared. Thomas Saggese singled, was hit by a pitch and blasted a two-run home run. Nathan Church had two hits, stole a base, scored twice, and had an outfield assist. Alex Cornwell allowed a run in one relief inning.

Glendale Desert Dogs 9, Mesa Solar Sox 7
The Desert Dogs defeated the Solar Sox at home on Friday. Three Cardinals participated. Second baseman Thomas Saggese hit third, center fielder Nathan Church batted seventh and Alex Cornwell pitched in relief.
Saggese went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. in his first at bat in the bottom of the first inning. Saggese struck out swinging.
In the third, Saggese was hit by a pitch and left stranded on the bases. He drew a walk in the fifth and was again left on the bases.
In the sixth, Saggese hit a two-run home run to left center field. He singled to the pitcher in the eighth and was eliminated in a double play.
Saggese made a throwing error on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning.
Church was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The outfielder lined out to first base in his first at bat in the second inning. He hit an infield single to second base in the fourth, stole his fourth AFL base and scored on a single by teammate Michael Turner of the White Sox.
Church singled and scored on a double by Tyler Callihan of the Reds in the sixth. He lined out to center field in the seventh.
Defensively, Church also had an outfield assist at second base in the fifth inning.
With Glendale up 9-1, Cornwell took the mound for the seventh and gave up one run on three singles with a walk and a strikeout. The lefty’s other two outs were on a force out at home plate and a pop out to third.
No other Cardinals saw action.
Glendale is 6-4 in the AFL season.
