As soon as I mention that the minors teams are playing well, they hit a big snag. Ouch.
In other news, Matt Koperniak seems to keep on motoring on. Taking out March, his OPS by month are .740, .811, 1.033, .827, .921 for a total of .873 on the season. I think it’s unlikely that they’ll majorly regret it when he leaves and goes somewhere else, but I’d say there’s a shot that he’s as good as Nootbaar and he’ll probably go for nothing while we pay up for Noot.

I hope next season they are willing to move Chen-Wei Lin a little quicker. Start him in A+ and let him get 2 or so months there before going to AA. He has really been improving the 2nd half of this year. His stuff is off the charts and he has a very large frame so he has very good potential.
I saw that Hence didn’t make it out of the 4th Wednesday. He was pulled at 64 pitches and it seems clearly a pitch count pull since he had just struck out two guys and wasn’t on the ropes. They sure are slow walking him since he came back this last time. Pitch counts 24, 41, 54, 49, 58, 64. Went 4 IP twice, but not past that. Even if he were bumped to AAA once AA shuts down, they aren’t going to get him back to 90 pitches this year. I have said before, they need to face reality, make him a reliever, let him get some AAA hitters out and them get him up to St Louis so we can get some benefit from him before his arm blows out. The live arm swing and miss guys have a short shelf life.

Hancel Alexander Rincon. This crafty Dominican appears to be right on the precipice of doing grandiose things. Look for Hancel to have a huge 2025 campaign. Hard to believe we’re just 6 months away from spring training….it can’t get here quick enough.
Rincon is a single digit K/9 guy who can do 90 pitches every 6 days all year. The Cardinals success rate turning guys like that into mid rotation work horse types is zero. Cornwell is similar. The impression is the org only ever gave him the time of day because he’s always the last man standing.
Yes, Pallante is a guy who is in the rotation because he’s the last man standing. Very similar to Cornwell a couple levels below. What happens when Lynn and Matz return?
I get you like Cornwell, but he has a five ERA in his second shot at Double-A. Pallante is the same age, 25, but is in the majors. Pallante was last at Springfield three years ago. Not really comparable, other than they are among many with a relatively low K rate.

Sagesse from July 1 on: .302/.365/.560, 7.2 BB%, 23.1 K%
The strikeouts are a touch high for me to slot him as a potential quality starter up in the big leagues at this point, but he could become a platoon guy or a backup at 2B, 3B and SS. In fact, I’d probably say it’s my choice for next year if we move on from Arenado or Gorman.
Ian Michael Petrutz. The early returns on our 12th round pick out of Alabama are glowing. Don’t worry about the power numbers at this stage……it’s a coming.
