A look at the upcoming week across the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league system. The four full-season teams include two first-place squads and another that is only one game back.
Triple-A Memphis – off Monday
Memphis (24-27) split their six-game home series against East Division rival Charlotte (24-25) (CWS) last week, lifting them into a sixth-place tie with Toledo (DET) in the West Division of the International League. Both squads trail Columbus (CLE) by 9 ½ games in the standings.
The Redbirds head to Iowa (CHC) this week to take on the Triple-A version of their archrival Cubs.
Tuesday’s game: at eighth-place Iowa (22-29), 6:38 pm CT, LH Steven Matz (MLB rehab)
Double-A Springfield – off Monday
First-place Springfield (33-18) was home at Hammons Field last week where they claimed five of six contests over fourth-place Tulsa (23-27) (LAD). Accordingly, the S-Cards increased their lead in the five-team North Division of the Texas League from two to three games ahead of Arkansas (SEA).
Springfield heads to fifth/last place Wichita (MIN) this week for six games.
Tuesday’s game: at Wichita (20-31), 7:05 pm CT, RHP Brandon Komar (6-1, 2.19)
High-A Peoria – off Monday
Peoria (28-26) won their home series last week, going 4-2 versus Fort Wayne (19-35) (SD), basement dwellers of the East Division in the Midwest League. The Chiefs moved into sole possession of third place in the six-team West Division standings as a result, climbing from 4 ½ to 3 ½ games behind first-place Wisconsin (MIL).
If Wisconsin remains in first place, because they also won the first half, the second half second-place team would make the playoffs. The Chiefs are one game behind Quad Cities (KC) in that important race.
Peoria looks to take their winning ways on the road as they face fourth-place Beloit (MIA) whom they lead by three games in the West Division.
Tuesday’s game: at Beloit (25-29), 6:35 pm CT, LHP Brycen Mautz (3-13, 5.33)
Low-A Palm Beach – off Monday
Palm Beach (37-15) continues their reign atop the East Division standings of the Florida State League. The Beach Birds compiled another strong record last week, winning five of six contests at fourth/last place St Lucie (18-34) (NYM). Their efforts expanded their division lead over Daytona (CIN) from 7 ½ to 8 ½ games.
Palm Beach hosts Daytona at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium this week for a six-game set.
Tuesday’s game: vs Daytona (28-23), 5:00 pm ET/4:00 pm CT, RH Sem Robberse (Memphis rehab)/RH Jason Savacool
