The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach SS J.J. Wetherholt, was 4-for-5 with an RBI. Other standouts include Ramon Mendoza, Chen-Wei Lin, and Yaxson Lucena.

Memphis 1 at Jacksonville 2 (seven innings, game one)
The Memphis Redbirds were edged by the Jumbo Shrimp in the first game of a twin bill in Jacksonville on Friday. Steven Matz, continuing his rehab assignment, started the game. The left-hander pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed three hits, fanned six and walked one.
Jacob Bosiokovic relieved Matz and finished the fifth cleanly. Connor Thomas surrendered one run in 1/3 of an inning. Chris Roycroft allowed one unearned run in the final 2/3 of an inning and took the loss.
Memphis produced their only run in the top of the sixth. Mike Antico and Matt Koperniak walked and Iván Herrera drove in Antico with a single.

Jacksonville tied the game in the home sixth and scored the walk off run in the seventh.
Memphis scored one run on three hits. Herrera was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
José Fermín stole his 18th base of the season. He was also picked off second base. Herrera made a throwing error.
Memphis 10 at Jacksonville 5 (seven innings, game two)
The Redbirds pummeled the Jumbo Shrimp in a 10-5 rout in game two of the twin bill. Zach Thompson was on the bump for Memphis. The left-hander pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up three runs on four hits, fanned a career-best 10 and walked one to earn his third win of the season.
Ryan Shreve relieved Thompson and surrendered two runs in 2/3 of an inning. Wilking Rodriguez tossed a scoreless seventh.
The Redbirds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Luken Baker began the inning with a solo home run. Gavin Collins and Alfonso Rivas singled. Ramon Mendoza drove in Collins on a double.
Jacksonville cut the lead to 2-1 in the home second. Memphis answered with five runs in the third to expand the lead to 7-1. Matt Koperniak and Baker walked. Nick Dunn reached on a fielder’s choice with a fielding error as Koperniak and Baker scored. Rivas plated Dunn on a single. Collins and Rivas came home on a single by Mendoza.

The Redbirds added two runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 9-1. Koperniak received a free pass. Baker doubled. Dunn walked. Collins drove in Koperniak and Baker on a single,
Memphis made it 10-1 in the fifth on a solo home run by Thomas Saggese. The Jumbo Shrimp staged a comeback with four runs in the sixth, but ultimately fell short.
The Memphis offense scored 10 runs on 10 hits. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Collins was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Rivas was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Baker was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Catcher Wade Stauss had a passed ball.
Memphis is 59-60 on the season, 21-23 in the second half. They are in seventh place in the International League West, 8.5 games back of Columbus.
The clubs are off Saturday prior to Sunday’s series finale.
Sunday’s game: at Jacksonville, RHP Michael McGreevy vs. RHP Yonny Chirinos 4:05 p.m.
The Double-A Cardinals were defeated by the Rough Riders in a walk off loss Friday. This was the first defeat for Springfield in the series after three wins.
Alex Cornwell made the start. The left-hander pitched six innings, gave up four runs on five hits, fanned five and walked four.
Wilfredo Pereira relieved Cornwell and surrendered two runs in two innings. Leonardo Taveras allowed the winning runs in the ninth.
Frisco took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Springfield responded with four runs in the top of the third to lead 4-2. Chris Rotondo led off with a single and stole second base. Bryan Torres drew a walk. Jacob Buchberger drove in Rotondo on a double. Torres scored on a single by R.J. Yeager. Chandler Redmond plated Buchberger on a single. Yeager came home on a sac fly by Aaron McKeithan.
The Rough Riders cut the lead to 4-3 in the home third. They tied the game in the fifth and took a 5-4 lead in the seventh.
The Cardinals rallied for one run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5. Torres singled and stole second base. Yeager received a free pass. Redmond plated Torres on a single.

Frisco put up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win in a walk off.
Springfield scored five runs on 11 hits. Redmond was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Yeager was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Torres was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Rotondo was 2-for-4. Noah Mendlinger was 2-for-2.
Rotondo stole his third base of the season. Torres swiped his 28th bag. Mendlinger was picked off third base.
Springfield is 63-49 on the season, 26-17 in the second half. They remain in first place in the Texas League North.
Saturday’s game: at Frisco, Quinn Mathews LHP (1-1. 3.11) vs. Winston Santos RHP (3-2, 5.33) 7:05 CT.
Peoria at Wisconsin (suspended)
The High-A Chiefs’ Friday night game at Wisconsin was suspended in the fifth inning with the home team up 1-0 due to rain in the area. It will be resumed on Saturday, prior to the regularly scheduled game.
Saturday’s game: at Wisconsin, TBD vs. TBD 5:10 CT (completion of suspended game); at Wisconsin, Pete Hansen LHP (5-7, 3.82) vs. Stiven Cruz RHP (1-2, 3.98) 6:40 CT (game two).
The Low-A Cardinals fell to the Hammerheads in a 4-2 contest at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday. Chen-Wei Lin started on the bump for Palm Beach. Lin pitched six innings, gave up one run on four hits, fanned five and walked one.
Randel Clemente relieved Lin and surrendered three runs in two innings to take the loss. Michael Watson tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Beach Birds took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Christian Martin singled and later scored on a single by J.J. Wetherholt.
Jupiter tied the game in the sixth. The Cardinals retook the lead 2-1 in the seventh. Lizandro Espinoza singled and scored on a single by Ryan Campos.
The Hammerheads came back with three runs in the eighth to go up 4-2.
The Cardinals scored two runs on 11 hits. Wetherholt was 4-for-5 with an RBI. Campos was 2-for-5. The offense was 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
Josh Kross made a fielding error.
Palm Beach is 68-42 on the season, 31-13 in the second half. They remain in first place in the FSL East.

DSL Cardinals 5, DSL Mariners 2 (seven innings)
The Dominican Cardinals defeated the Mariners by the score of 5-2 on Friday. Branneli Franco started for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched three innings, gave up one run on five hits, struck out one and walked two.
Alan Reyes relieved Franco and surrendered one run in the final four innings to earn the win.
The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Cardinals tied the game in the fifth. Cristofer Lebron singled. Yoerny Junco was hit by a pitch. Lebron later scored on a ground out by Facundo Velasquez.
The Cardinals took the lead in the sixth on a grand slam by Yaxson Lucena. The Mariners added one more run in the seventh for the final score of 5-2.
The Cardinals scored five runs on five hits. Lebron was 2-for-3. Lucena had four RBI.
Junco stole his seventh base of the season. Catcher Juan Pablo Cabrera made a throwing error.
The Cardinals are 26-24 on the season and are in fifth place in the DSL Central, 11.5 games back of the Giants Black.
