The only Monday game in the St. Louis Cardinals system was an extra-innings loss in the Dominican Summer League. TCN’s Player of the Day (and 2x Pitcher of the Month), RH Keiverson Ramirez, tossed five scoreless innings, lowering his season ERA to 0.63. All five clubs’ standings are recapped and the coming week’s series are previewed.

Memphis – off
Memphis (15-18) claimed four of six contests at Durham (14-19) (TB), the cellar dwellers of the 10-team East Division of the International League. The eighth-place Redbirds trail Columbus (CLE), the West Division leaders, by 7 ½ games in the standings.
This week, Memphis hosts fifth-place Gwinnett (ATL).
Tuesday’s game: vs. Gwinnett (16-17), 6:45 pm CT, Rehabbing LH Steven Matz (0-0, 2.25)
Springfield – off
The Texas League North Division-leading S-Cards (20-13) split their six-game road set at second place (tie) Tulsa (17-15) (LAD), winning three and losing three. They remain 2 ½ games ahead of NW Arkansas (KC) and the Drillers in the standings.
Up next for Springfield is a six-game home series versus East Division rival and third-place San Antonio (SD).
Tuesday’s game: vs. San Antonio (15-17), 7:05 pm CT, LH Quinn Mathews (0-1, 4.05)
Peoria – off
Second-place (tie) Peoria (18-18) claimed three of their six home games versus fourth place (tie) Quad Cities (17-19) (KC) last week. The Chiefs are tied for second with Cedar Rapids (MIN), 5 ½ games behind Wisconsin (MIL) and a game ahead of Beloit (MIA) and Quad Cities in the West Division standings of the Midwest League.
The Chiefs remain at home this week, hosting Cedar Rapids for six games beginning Tuesday.

Palm Beach – off
Palm Beach (24-10) has gone 8-2 over their last 10 games, including a 5-1 home series win overh Bradenton (12-24) (PIT) of the West Division. Accordingly, they remain atop the East Division of the Florida State League, five games in front of Jupiter (MIA).
The Beach Birds are on the road this week, taking on West Division rival Dunedin (TOR). However, with the current tropical storm in Florida, it may be a challenge to get the games in.
Tuesday’s game: at Dunedin (18-16), 6:30 pm ET/5:30 pm CT, TBD
DSL Cardinals 2 at DSL Rangers Red 3 (10)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals’ (22-20) late rally went for naught as they suffered a 3-2 walk-off road loss to the DSL Rangers Red (30-15) in 10 innings.
Starter Keiverson Ramirez shut down the South Division leaders during his five frames of work. The righty allowed a hit and three walks, striking out five with five ground- and two fly-ball outs. The Cardinal Nation’s June and July Pitcher of the Month lowered his season ERA to 0.63 in nine starts.
The Rangers Red scored first with a sixth-inning tally against reliever Giovanni Vargas. Vargas tossed three innings, permitting one run on two hits and two walks while fanning three.
The Dominican Birds’ offense finally broke through in the eighth, tying the contest at one all. Shortstop Yairo Padilla greeted the new Rangers Red pitcher by working a lead-off walk. Yoerny Junco’s single to left advanced Padilla to third. It was one of three hits in five at bats for the second baseman. Padilla then raced home, scoring on center fielder Facundo Velasquez’ ground out to first.
With the score knotted at 1-1, the contest went into extra innings. Left fielder and number nine batter Andru Arthur began the 10th at second base. Junco singled Arthur to third, putting him into position to score on a subsequent wild pitch.
The Cardinals’ bullpen was tasked with holding a 2-1 lead but did not deliver. With closer Alan Reyes apparently unavailable due to his save on Saturday, the team turned to Jesus Garcia (L, 1-2). The righty had tossed a clean ninth, working around a one-out single and walk, but could not duplicate those results the next frame. Garcia yielded two tallies on two singles and a fielder’s choice that did not get anyone out as the Rangers Red walked off the win.
Tuesday’s game: at DSL Arizona Red (29-17), 11:00 am ET/10:00 am CT, RH Andrew Bolivar (0-0, 4.11)
