Gray hasn’t been the “ace”, lately, that the Cardinals and many Cardinals fans were likely expecting. I don’t know much about Fedde. Has he been much more effective than Gray recently? Sorry about starting another thread. But this one is timely. At least it’s not about Burleson. lol
I’ve never seen him work a solitary inning, Shady, so I can only go by what’s printed on the reverse side of his card. Based on that, he’s 28-37 with a career ERA of 4.92 in 576 IP’ed and has never thrown a post-season pitch. I wouldn’t compare him to Gray as Fedde’s listed at 6-4 and 205 lbs. I also have no idea how he fared in his season in Korea, but the fact that no Big League team wanted him in ’23 tells me that he’s had trouble finding work.
I’m as impressed by what Fedde has done with the White Sox in ’24 as I am by what Matz did with the Blue Jays in ’21. I’ll reserve my real time judgement for after he’s all done working his first turn in a Cardinal uniform.

If you look at his full body of work over the course of his career it’s pretty average.
This may be his career year and the change of scenery could throw him off.
I guess Mo is hoping he keeps over performing long enough to squeeze this team into a wild card spot or to chase down the Brewers if they collapse.
If I had to lay odds I’d give the Cardinals a 50-50 shot to pick off a wild card spot so they can beat their chests about be a ‘playoff’ team.
Fedde is a year removed from not being able to get a job in MLB. Let’s hope he isn’t a one season wonder.
Yes. “Lately” He’s been better than Gray. But the track record tells us something else. Just like “lately” Bisquits has been better than Goldy.
If we are fortunate enough to land a playoff spot I would expect Gray to start game 1 and Fedde to start game 2. Of course we will have to let the next two months play out.
The reason I thought Fedde was a good fit for the Cardinals was not because I thought he was the next Bob Gibson (he isn’t) but was because I think he can be a quality number 2 or 3 starter with a $7.5M price tag, which is hard to find. Fedde makes $5M LESS than Matz. Think about that. I imagine Mo and BDW are tickled because that is one less starter they have to find for 2025.
Overall Fedde has had an average to below average career but his year in Korea seemed to really change him. Hopefully he can keep it up but even if he is a bust he would be a cheap mistake.

Matz wasn’t as good as Fedde during his 2021 season with Toronto.
Maybe or maybe not, but in the sense that ’21 and ’24 were Matz’ and Fedde’s only decent season respectively, both pitchers are very much alike.
Fedde is cheap and appears to have undergone a Mikolas like transformation overseas. Gray has all the saber numbers going in his direction, though. You’d think over the rest of the season, Gray would hold up better. Fedde is a solid addition, though.
I expect Grays performance to exceed Fedde’s. I’m just ribbing my buddy Shady. He has pretty thick skin.
Until proven otherwise meaning more than one really good season, fedde is nowhere close to gray. While fedde might be a number 2 for the cardinals, in reality i think hes probably a 4, 3 when hes really on but mostly a 4. Next year at this time, we should know more.
At $7.5M, he’s the cheapest of the five starters we’ve got. He also doesn’t have a bum arm, which sets him apart from some of Mo’s and Randy’s pitching acquisitions. He’s also not already a late career guy. So he’s probably going to be worth the money this year and next.
We have to accept the reality that Bill is not going to let Mo spend huge money buying up an entire rotation year after year. Fedde, Gibson, this is the sort of thing we can realistically expect. Late career downslope guys, Asian league reclamation projects.
