The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Sem Robberse, pitched eight one-run innings and struck out nine in Memphis’ win. Other standouts include José Fermín, Noah Mendlinger, Nathan Church, Osvaldo Tovalin, and Springfield relief pitchers Ryan Shreve, Matt Svanson and Andre Granillo.

The Memphis Redbirds defeated the Stripers by three runs on Friday. Starter Sem Robberse pitched eight innings, gave up one run on one hit, struck out nine and walked two to earn his third win of the season. In the process, the 22-year-old lowered his ERA to 1.59.

Connor Thomas tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his first save.
Memphis took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by red-hot José Fermín. Memphis made it 2-0 in the fourth. Fermín singled and came home on César Prieto’s double.

The Redbirds scored a third run in the fifth. Luken Baker drew a walk and advanced to second and third on two balks. Alfonso Rivas plated Baker with a single. In the sixth, Thomas Saggese hit a solo home run.
Gwinnett scored their only run in the seventh.
Fermín was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Rivas was 2-for-4. Pedro Pagés was 2-for-3.
On the base paths, Saggese was picked off and caught stealing. In the field, Pagés had a passed ball.
Memphis is 9-10 on the season.
Saturday’s game: at Gwinnett, RHP Victor Santos (0-3, 10.38) vs. RHP Huascar Ynoa 5:05 CT.
Springfield 9 at Amarillo 4 (12 innings)
The Springfield Cardinals walloped the Sod Poodles with a six-run 12th inning surge in Amarillo on Friday. Starter Tekoah Roby pitched five innings, gave up three runs on six hits, struck out eight and walked one.
Ryan Shreve threw three scoreless innings of relief and Matt Svanson hurled two more scoreless innings, including fanning the side in the 10th. Andre Granillo pitched a scoreless 11th but pitching with a six-run lead, Leonardo Taveras surrendered one unearned run in the 12th. Granillo earned the win, his second.
Springfield opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run home run by Nathan Church. Amarillo answered with single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to lead 3-2.

The Cardinals tied it up in the sixth. R.J. Yeager singled and advanced to third on a fielding error. Yeager came home on a sac fly by Matt Lloyd.
The game remained tied through regulation and into extra innings. In the top of the 12th, Springfield sent six runs across the plate to retake the lead 9-3. Lloyd made the last out of the 11th, but Chris Rotondo replaced him at second as the pinch runner. Rotondo stole third base. Jeremy Rivas drew a walk. Jacob Buchberger doubled and Rotondo scored. Wade Stauss and Ramon Mendoza walked to load the bases and Rivas came home. With the bases loaded again, Noah Mendlinger cleared them with a double and advanced to third. Mendlinger scored on a ground out by Church.

Yeager was 2-for-6 as the only Cardinal with multiple hits while extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Mendlinger and Church each had three RBI.
On the base paths, Rivas stole his fourth base of the season. Rotondo swiped his first bag.
Springfield is 11-2 on the season.
Saturday’s game: at Amarillo, Edwin Nuñez RHP (0-0, 4.76) vs. Dylan File RHP (0-1, 9.00) 7:05 CT
The Peoria Chiefs were edged by the River Bandits by a 4-3 score in Davenport on Friday. Starter Hancel Rincon pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits, struck out five and walked two. Rincon took the loss.
Roy Garcia threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Joseph King tossed a scoreless eighth.
Quad Cities took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They added single runs in the fifth and sixth to lead 4-0. Peoria finally got on the board in the seventh on a three-run home run by Osvaldo Tovalin.
The Chiefs offense scored three runs on three hits. No Chief had multiple hits. Tovalin drove in all the runs.
Tovalin made a throwing error. Dakota Harris had a fielding miscue.
Peoria is 5-8 for the season.
Saturday’s game: at Quad Cities, Pete Hansen LHP (0-1, 8.31) vs. Frank Mozzicato LHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:00 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals suffered a late collapse, falling to the Flying Tigers by five runs at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday.
Starter Quinn Mathews pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out eight and walked four. It took the first-year lefty 83 pitches to secure his 10 outs.
Henry Gomez threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Coming into the seventh, the Cards led 5-0, but the bullpen collapsed from there. Randel Clemente surrendered four runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Augusto Calderon yielded four runs in 2/3 of an inning. Angel Cuenca allowed two runs in the eighth. By that time, Palm Beach was down 10-5. Alec Willis tossed a scoreless ninth. Calderon took the loss.
The Beach Birds went up 1-0 in the first inning. Kade Kretzschmar singled and later scored on a single by Miguel Villarroel.
Palm Beach added four runs in the fourth to lead 5-0. Johnfrank Salazar singled. Lizandro Espinoza reached on a fielder’s choice. Salazar scored on a single by Jose Cordoba. Cordoba stole second base and Espinoza crossed home on a throwing error. Kretzschmar plated Cordoba on a single. Kretzschmar was driven in by Ross Friedrick’s double.
The Palm Beach offense scored five runs on 12 hits. Cordoba, Friedrick, and Villarroel were each 2-for-5 with an RBI. Kretzschmar was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Salazar was 2-for-4.
On the base paths, Espinoza and Cordoba each stole a base. In the field, Trey Paige made a throwing error. Cordoba had an outfield assist at home plate.
Palm Beach is 8-5 on the season.
