The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-2 on Tuesday, as the Peoria game was postponed. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach’s Ross Friedrick, was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Other standouts include Gerardo Salas, Jimmy Crooks, Bryan Torres and Thomas Saggese.

To open the road series, the Memphis Redbirds were edged by the Stripers by one run on Wednesday. Starter Michael McGreevy pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out five and walked four. McGreevy took the loss, his second of the season.
Connor Thomas surrendered one run in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Nick Robertson tossed a scoreless eighth.
Memphis went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning. José Fermín led off with a double and Matt Koperniak singled. Thomas Saggese doubled to score Fermín and Koperniak. Saggese came home on a single by César Prieto.

Gwinnett quickly answered with four runs in the home first to lead 4-3. The Stripers made it 5-3 in the third, and 6-3 in the seventh.
The Redbirds partially rallied in the ninth to close the gap to 6-5 on a two-run home run by Jared Young.

The Memphis offense scored five runs on eight hits. Prieto was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Saggese was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Young drove in two.
On the base paths, Saggese and Fermín each stole a base. Prieto was caught stealing.
In the field, Pedro Pagés made a throwing error and had a passed ball. McGreevy made an error on a pickoff attempt.
Memphis is 7-9 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: at Gwinnett, RHP Adam Kloffenstein (0-2, 8.03) vs. A.J. Smith-Shawver RHP (0-1, 18.00) 11:05 am CT.
Taking their first loss after a record-setting nine wins to open the season, the Springfield Cardinals fell to the Sod Poodles in a 13-9 slugfest on Tuesday. Starter Max Rajcic pitched 1 2/3 innings, gave up eight runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked two. Rajcic took the loss.
Brandon Komar surrendered two runs in 5 1/3 innings of relief. Matt Svanson yielded the final three runs in the eighth.
Springfield went up 2-0 in the top of the first. Nathan Church and R.J. Yeager singled. Church was caught stealing and Yeager advanced. He scored on a single by Jimmy Crooks. Crooks later came home on a single by Chandler Redmond.
Amarillo took the lead for good in the home half of the first, taking a 4-2 edge. The Sod Poodles added four more in the second to increase the lead to 8-2.
The Cardinals cut the lead to 8-4 in the third on back-to-back home runs by Crooks and Matt Lloyd.

Springfield added three runs in the fourth. Jacob Buchberger and Jeremy Rivas walked. Buchberger came in on a single by Bryan Torres. Church walked. Crooks walked and Rivas scored.
The Sod Poodles added two in the fourth to lead 10-7. The Cardinals made it 10-8 in the fifth. Rivas walked, stole second base, and advanced to third on a balk. He scored on a sac fly by Church.
Springfield made it 10-9 in the seventh. Buchberger doubled and later came home on a single by Yeager. In the eighth, Amarillo put up three insurance runs against Svanson to increase the lead to 13-9.
The Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season. The offense scored nine runs on 14 hits. Torres was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Crooks was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Yeager was 2-for-6 with an RBI. Lloyd was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Redmond was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
On the base paths, Rivas stole his second base of the season. Church was caught stealing. In the field, Svanson made an error on a pickoff.
Springfield is 9-1 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: at Amarillo, Alex Cornwell LHP (0-0, 4.50) vs. Yu-Min Lin LHP (0-0, 5.63) 7:05 CT.
Peoria at Quad Cities (postponed)
This game was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 17.
Wednesday’s games: at Quad Cities, RHP Inohan Paniagua (1-0, 0.00) vs. LH Hunter Owen (1-0, 1.29) 5:00 CT (Game 1); at Quad Cities, Brycen Mautz LHP (0-1, 5.40) vs. Oscar Rayo LHP (0-0, 2.25) (Game 2).
The Palm Beach Cardinals defeated the Flying Tigers (DET) in a 4-1 contest on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium. Starter Gerardo Salas pitched six innings, gave up one run on four hits, struck out six and walked one.
Angel Cuenca threw scoreless innings of relief to earn his first win of the season. In his Palm Beach debut, Alec Willis tossed a scoreless ninth for the save.
Lakeland scored one in the top of the first. The Beach Birds tied the game in the home half of the inning. Sammy Hernandez walked and later crossed the plate on a single by Ross Friedrick.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when Palm Beach scored three to lead 4-1. Chase Davis drew a walk. Davis advanced to second on a ground out and moved to third on a wild pitch. Friedrick plated Davis on a single. Miguel Villarroel drew a walk. Adari Grant pinch ran for Friedrick. Brayden Jobert walked. Tres Richardson walked and Grant scored. Villarroel came home on a fielding error.
The Cardinals scored four runs on five hits. Friedrick was 2-for-4 with two RBI as the only Cardinal with multiple hits.
On the base paths, Lizandro Espinoza stole his second base of the season. Espinoza also made a fielding error.
Palm Beach is 7-3 on the season.
