The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-1 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Players of the Day, Peoria’s Inohan Paniagua and Palm Beach’s Gerardo Salas, pitched five scoreless innings each. Salas struck out eight and Paniagua punched out five. Other standouts include Bryan Torres, Max Rajcic, Brody Moore and Kade Kretzschmar.

Memphis 2, Nashville 15 (six innings)
The Memphis Redbirds fell to the visiting Nashville Sounds in a 15-2 blowout that was called early due to rain. Starter Victor Santos pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up eight runs on six hits, struck out three and walked three. Santos took the loss.
Connor Thomas threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Josh James surrendered six runs, five earned, while recording just one out in the sixth. Ryan Loutos yielded one run in the final 2/3 of an inning.
Nashville began scoring in the third, putting four runs on the board. The Sounds increased the lead to 8-0 in the fourth.
Memphis scored the first of their two runs in the home fourth. Luken Baker singled and later scored on a double by Moisés Gómez.
Nashville added seven more runs in the top of the sixth. The Redbirds plated their second run in the home half before the rain came. César Prieto hit a solo home run to left center field.

Memphis scored two runs on six hits. No Redbirds had multiple hits. The Prieto long ball and Gómez double were the only extra base hits.
On the base paths, Thomas Saggese stole his first base of the season. In the field, Prieto made a throwing error.
Memphis is 4-6 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: vs. Nashville, RHP Michael McGreevy (0-1, 7.00) vs. Evan McKendry RHP (0-1, 4.22) 12:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals defeated the Wind Surge by four runs in the 2024 home opener at Hammons Field on Tuesday. Starter Max Rajcic pitched five innings, gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits and struck out three. Rajcic took the win, his first at Double-A.

Nick Raquet relieved Rajcic and threw two scoreless innings. Brandon Komar tossed the final two scoreless frames.
Springfield went up 1-0 in the first inning. St. Louis rehabber Lars Nootbaar drew a walk and later scored on a sac fly by R.J. Yeager. Wichita scored two runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
The Cardinals tied it in the fourth. Jacob Buchberger singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and came home on a ground out by Jimmy Crooks.
Springfield retook the lead 3-2 in the fifth. Torres singled, moved to third on a Yeager double, and scored on a sac fly by Matt Lloyd. The Cardinals widened the lead in the sixth with three runs to make it 6-2. Noah Mendlinger and Jeremy Rivas singled. Nootbaar singled to plate Mendlinger, and Rivas scored on a fielding error. Nootbaar came home on a single by Torres.
Torres was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Mendlinger was 3-for-4. Yeager, Torres, Lloyd, and Crooks each had an RBI.
On the base paths, Torres stole two bases. Buchberger and Rivas each swiped a bag. In the field, Rivas made a fielding error.
St. Louis rehabber Nootbaar led off and went 1-for-4 plus a walk. He scored twice, drove in one and struck out once.
Springfield is 4-0 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: vs. Wichita, Alex Cornwell LHP, (0-0, 0.00) vs. Jarret Whorff RHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:35 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs beat the Sky Carp on Tuesday at Dozer Park by the score of 5-3. It was the High-A affiliate’s 2024 home opener. Starter Inohan Paniagua pitched five scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out five and walked two to earn his first win.
Dionys Rodriguez relieved Paniagua and surrendered two runs in two innings. Joseph King yielded one run in the final two innings.
Peoria went up 1-0 in the second inning. Zach Levenson was hit by a pitch and later was driven in by a William Sullivan single.
The Chiefs made it 3-0 in the fourth. Alex ladisernia doubled and advanced to third on a balk. Levenson plated ladisernia on a single. Levenson later scored on a single by Dakota Harris.
In the fifth, Brody Moore singled, stole second base, and came home on a single by Leonardo Bernal. Peoria led 4-0.
Beloit got on the board in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 4-2. The Chiefs widened the lead to 5-2 in the home half of the seventh. Won-Bin Cho walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and stole third. He came home on a sac fly by ladisernia.
The Sky Carp scored a final run in the eighth for the final score of 5-3.
Peoria scored five runs on eight hits. Moore was 2-for-4 as the only Chief with multiple hits.
On the base paths, Moore, Cho, and Michael Curialle each stole a base. Joshua Baez made a fielding error.
Peoria is 2-2 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: vs. Beloit, LHP Brycen Mautz (0-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Jacob Miller (0-0, 0.00) 11:05 am CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals blanked the Daytona Tortugas in a 4-0 road win on Tuesday. Starter Gerardo Salas pitched five scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out eight and walked two. Salas earned the win.
Ettore Guilianelli threw two scoreless innings of relief. Henry Gomez hurled a scoreless eighth. Augusto Calderon tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Beach Birds took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Ross Friedrick and Kade Kretzschmar singled. Sammy Hernandez drew a walk. Lizandro Espinoza doubled to score Friedrick and Kretzschmar.
Kretzschmar hit a solo home run in the fourth to increase the lead to 3-0. Palm Beach made it 4-0 in the fifth. Adari Grant led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
Kretzschmar was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Grant was 2-for-4. Espinoza had two RBI.
On the base paths, Grant and Tre Richardson were caught stealing.
Palm Beach is 3-1 on the season.
