The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-1 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, starter Tink Hence, pitched five no-hit, scoreless innings in Springfield’s Opening Night win. Other standouts include Alfonso Rivas, Cade Winquest and Lizandro Espinoza.

The Memphis Redbirds fell to the Indians by an 8-3 score on Friday. Starter Michael McGreevy pitched four innings, gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out two and walked two. McGreevy took the loss.
Kyle Leahy threw a scoreless fifth. Wilking Rodriguez surrendered two runs in the sixth. Nick Robertson yielded one run in the seventh. Chris Roycroft tossed a scoreless eighth.
Indianapolis took the early lead in the first inning, with three runs. The Indians dominated the game throughout behind three scoreless innings by top prospect Paul Skenes.
Indianapolis added single runs in the third and the fourth, two in the sixth and a final run in the seventh to lead 8-0.
Memphis finally got on the board in the ninth with three runs. The inning began with a walk to Nick Raposo. César Prieto and Lars Nootbaar singled. Alfonso Rivas doubled to clear the bases.
The Redbirds scored three runs on six hits. Prieto was 2-for-4. Rivas drove in three.
In the field, Luken Baker made a throwing error. Matt Koperniak had an outfield assist at second base.
Memphis is 3-3 on the season.

at Indianapolis, (game two) RHP Gordon Graceffo vs. RHP Quinn Priester.
The Springfield Cardinals prevailed over the Travelers (SEA) by a 6-1 score on Friday night. Starter Tink Hence pitched five scoreless, no-hit innings, struck out three and walked one. Hence retired the first 14 Arkansas batters on the way to earning the win in the season opener.
Nick Raquet surrendered one run in two innings of relief. Andre Granillo tossed the final two scoreless innings.
The Cardinals scored first, with one run in the third inning. Matt Lloyd reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He came home on a single by Jimmy Crooks.
Springfield made it 3-0 in the in the fifth. Bryan Torres doubled and Nathan Church singled. Torres was driven in on a single by Chandler Redmond. Crooks singled. Church scored on a single by Jacob Buchberger.
The Cardinals added one run in the sixth. Jeremy Rivas tripled and came home on a sac fly by Torres. Springfield widened the lead to 6-0 in the seventh. Noah Mendlinger singled and Chris Rotondo walked. After the runners advanced on a passed ball, Mendlinger scored on a sac fly by Rivas. Rotondo came in on a sac fly by Torres.
Arkansas got on the board with their only run in the home seventh.
Crooks went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Rivas was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Church was 2-for-6 and Mendlinger was 2-for-5. Torres had two RBI.
On the base paths, Rivas was picked off and caught stealing.
Springfield is 1-0 on the season.
Saturday’s game: at Arkansas, Tekoah Roby RHP (0-0, 0.00) vs. Reid VanScoter LHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs topped the Timber Rattlers by the score on 2-1 on Friday. Starter Cooper Hjerpe pitched only 2/3 of an inning, giving up one run on three walks and no hits with two strikeouts.
Wilfredo Pereira threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Cade Winquest added five no-hit scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Pereira received the win. Winquest earned the save.
Wisconsin took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Peoria answered with two runs in the third to lead 2-1. Joshua Baez singled and stole second base. He advanced to third on a ground out and came home on sac fly by Won-Bin Cho. Cho stole second base and scored on a throwing error.
The Chiefs scored their two runs on just three hits. No Chief had multiple hits. Cho had Peoria’s only RBI.
On the base paths, Alex ladisernia, Baez, and Zach Levenson each stole a base. Cho swiped two bags. Dakota Harris was caught stealing.
Peoria is 1-0 on the season.
Saturday’s game: at Wisconsin, Hancel Rincon RHP (0-0, 0.00) vs. Alexander Cornielle RHP (0-0, 0.00) 1:10 CT.
Palm Beach 6, Jupiter 5 (10 innings)
The Palm Cardinals edged the Hammerheads by one run in extra innings at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday. In his professional debut, starter Quinn Mathews pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up two runs on two hits, struck out six and walked five.
Luis Gastelum relieved Mathews and surrendered two runs, three earned, in 1 2/3 innings. Ettore Guilianelli threw two scoreless innings. Zack Showalter hurled 1 2/3 scoreless frames. Augusto Calderon tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Calderon earned the win.
Jupiter went up 1-0 in the first inning, then added two runs in the third and two runs in the sixth to lead 5-0.
Palm Beach cut the lead to 5-2 in the home half of the sixth. The inning started with a single by Ross Friedrick. Friedrick advanced to second on a wild pitch. Miguel Villarroel drew a walk. Friedrick scored on a wild pitch. Villarroel came home on a sac fly by Brayden Jobert.
The Cardinals tied the game in the eighth. Sammy Hernandez doubled and was driven in on a triple by Jobert. Lizandro Espinoza hit a two-run home run.
In the 10th, Tre Richardson, starting on second base, came home on a single by Jose Cordoba and Palm Beach prevailed in a walk off.
Hernandez went 3-for-4. Cordoba was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jobert and Espinoza each drove in two.
On the base paths, Hernandez stole his first base. In the field, Espinoza made a throwing error and Richardson had a fielding miscue.
Palm Beach is 1-0 on the season.
Saturday’s game: vs. Jupiter, TBD vs. TBD 5:00 CT.
