Yes, I know it’s early. But he didn’t really do much last year. And so far this year he’s not really done anything. Does anybody think he is going to snap out of this year long funk and be close to what we thought we were getting?
Sometimes I think it really was Coors Field that made Arenado……

April 3, 2024 at 6:51 pm #246396In three seasons this is what we’ve gotten.
30 HR a year, 100 RBI a year, 2 Gold Gloves, and 2 Platinum Gloves for the leagues best fielder.
Last season was a down year and he still hit 26 HR with 93 RBI. 54 XBH.
I’m not worried about him. He’s always been somewhat streaky. He’s still one of the top third basemen in baseball. I’m more concerned about the young players who aren’t hitting a lick!

Say what? All he did was lead the team in RBI and was one off a share of the team home run and doubles lead. He kept playing even though his back was bothering him.

Of course, that is where he made his reputation.
Way, way back in 2022 (he was a Cardinal then), Arenado finished third in the NL MVP vote. His OPS+ of 151 was his career best, 18 points higher than his best year in Colorado. His 5.7 bWAR (which also includes his defense) was also his best ever season.
If he slumped seven games in the middle of the season, no one would notice. Since it happened now, panic sets in, with some forgetfulness thrown in.
April 3, 2024 at 7:56 pm #246416Yeah, no need to worry about Nolan Sr. He’s a year older and might slip a little from his career norm, but like all the great ones when the season ends his numbers will be right there about where they usually are.
They had a graphic on the broadcast today about his career “clutch” numbers – I think it was the old “wRISP”, and it was impressive. He’s still a great player.
Even Ted Williams only hit a little over .200 in his lone World Series. A few games and anyone can look good or not so good.
April 3, 2024 at 9:06 pm #246430I hope you folks are right. That at the conclusion of the 2024 season Arenado is around .290/33/110.
I am expecting more like .255/22/74.
I guess we shall see who is right. I know Pugs would bet on me.
Time to get my late night snack. A cheeseburger from Walmart with some lettuce and mayo. Then a bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. Then a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars. All the while as I tune in to the Giants and Dodgers game at Doyer Stadium. Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser on the call. If the game is a blowout late I will have to watch a couple of episodes of Adam-12.

April 4, 2024 at 11:27 am #246474Other than the late night snack and cigars, I took a page out of the Esteemed Rat’s book one night last week. I watched our game, it was one of the Dodger games, and after it ended watched an episode of “Mannix” on the Pluto TV app.
