Two St. Louis Cardinals prospects saw action in the Scorpions’ Friday night win over the Solar Sox. Victor Scott was the leadoff hitter. Andre Granillo took the mound initially after Scottsdale’s scheduled starter was scratched.

Center fielder Victor Scott led off.  He was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Scott lined out to left field in the first inning and singled in the second. Scott lined out to center field in the fourth and was hit by a pitch in the seventh, stole second, and scored on a sac fly. He flied out to center field in his final at-bat.

Scott’s at-bat in the seventh was notable. On the first pitch, Scott was hit directly on the right/lead knee with a wayward pitch. He rolled on the ground in pain, but after being checked out by the trainer, he took first base. Everyone in the park knew he would run, which he did on the next pitch. When the catcher’s throw sailed into center, Scott easily took third. With no outs, it was inevitable that he would score.

Fill in starter Andre Granillo pitched two scoreless innings with one hit allowed, two strikeouts and one walk. In his first inning, Granillo issued a walk, induced a pop out to second base and struck out two. In his second inning, Granillo gave up a single, yielded two ground outs and a fly out.

In the process, Granillo lowered his AFL ERA to 2.00 and received the win, his first.

Scottsdale is 14-13 on the season and is in second place, three games back of the Surprise Saguaros.
