The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-3 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria OF Alex Iadisernia, tripled, walked, drove in four, scored twice and stole two bases. Other standouts include José Fermín, Connor Lunn, Max Rajcic and William Sullivan.

The Memphis Redbirds (25-32) were edged by the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 28-27) on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
In the first game of his rehab assignment from St. Louis, Matthew Liberatore tossed three innings and surrendered two runs, one earned, on three hits and five walks. The left-hander struck out six. In relief, Ryan Loutos pitched two scoreless frames. In the second game of his rehab stint, Wilking Rodríguez yielded an unearned run in just 2/3 of an inning. Dalton Roach threw 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
The Stripers scored a run in the first but Nick Dunn walked with the bases loaded in the home half. The Redbirds made the score 3-2 in the second. José Fermín singled to plate one and Kramer Robertson came across on an error. In the seventh, Fermín blasted a two-run home run, his fourth of the Triple-A season.

Asked to protect a 5-3 lead, James Naile did not get the job done. The right-hander took a blown save and his third loss of 2023 after he surrendered three runs in the ninth, going 1 1/3 innings in total. Two runs came home on a triple and the eventual winning run scored on a Naile wild pitch. Coming in with the bases loaded, Logan Sawyer induced a double play to end the top of the ninth.
Needing a run to tie, Memphis went down 1-2-3 with the game ending on a Juan Yepez strikeout.
Fermín went 2-for-4 with a walk, three RBI, two runs scored and a home run. Dunn walked twice. Matt Koperniak and Chase Pinder doubled. The lineup went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.
In the field, Nick Raposo had two passed balls.
Memphis went 2-4 at home against the Stripers this week. They are 10 games out of first in the International League West.

Springfield 6 at NW Arkansas 4
The Springfield Cardinals (29-28) topped the NW Arkansas Naturals (KC, 27-29) at Arvest Ballpark on Sunday.
Starter Connor Lunn earned his sixth win of the year after he tossed six innings and gave up two runs. The right-hander struck out two. In relief, Bryan Pope recorded a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.
The Cardinals took the early lead. Noah Mendlinger came across on a passed ball in the first. Victor Scott blasted a two-run home run in the second, his fifth at Double-A.

Ryan Shreve surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings with two punchouts. Matt Svanson saved his third Double-A game after a hitless ninth.
Chandler Redmond and Pedro Pagés doubled to make the score 5-0 in the fifth. Aaron Antonini hit a solo homer in the sixth, his third for Springfield.
The lineup recorded eight hits and three walks in the contest. Redmond and Pagés both had two hits. Scott was 1-for-4 with one walk and a home run.
On the base paths, Scott stole a bag and was caught stealing. In the field, Lunn picked a runner off first base.
After a 4-2 week, Springfield is three games out of first place in the Texas League North.

The Peoria Chiefs (35-25) defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits (KC, 22-38) at Modern Woodmen Park.
Max Rajcic threw five innings and yielded two runs on eight hits and no walks. TCN’s August Pitcher of the Month fanned six and earned his third High-A win. In his first appearance since late May, Cooper Hjerpe was touched for an unearned run in 2/3 of an inning.
Quad Cities made it 1-0 in the first but the Chiefs tied the game in the fourth. Alex Iadisernia scored on a passed ball. In the sixth inning, Peoria put up four runs. Chris Rotondo walked with the bases loaded. Iadisernia tripled to clear the loaded bases and make the score 5-2.

Joseph King was charged with a run in 2 1/3 innings but had four strikeouts. Nathanael Heredia recorded his first career save with a scoreless ninth inning.
In the eighth, the Chiefs added two insurance runs. Iadisneria grounded into a forceout and Ramon Mendoza came across to score. Brody Moore increased the lead with an RBI single.
Peoria recorded four hits with 15 walks in the contest. The last time the Chiefs had 15 walks was over 20 years ago. Iadisernia went 1-for-2 with a triple, three walks, four RBI and two runs scored. Mendoza, R.J. Yeager, Jimmy Crooks and Rotondo drew two walks apiece.
In the series finale, the Chiefs also stole five bases. Iadisernia took two. Yeager, Rotondo and Moore all stole one. Moore was also caught stealing. In the field, Mendoza committed an error and Crooks had a passed ball.
Peoria continued their playoff push with a 4-2 week in the Quad Cities. Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to three with six regular-season games left on the schedule.

Palm Beach 1 at Bradenton 3 (7 innings, Game 1)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (25-31) fell to the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 36-22) in a seven-inning contest at LECOM Park, the first of a Sunday twin bill.
Starter Brycen Mautz took his ninth loss of 2023 after he was touched for two runs in 1 2/3 frames. TCN’s no. 12 prospect yielded four hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
The Beach Birds scored their only run in the fourth inning as William Sullivan blasted his first professional home run.

Out of the bullpen, Hunter Hayes struck out six in three innings but surrendered a run. Tanner Jacobson fanned four in 1 1/3 hitless frames.
Palm Beach only had two hits in the contest. Zach Levenson singled and Sullivan homered. The lineup went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
On the bases, Brayden Jobert took his fifth bag of the season. Levenson was caught stealing.
Palm Beach 4 at Bradenton 5 (8 innings, Game 2)
In the makeup of Wednesday’s postponed game, the Palm Beach Cardinals (25-32) were walked off by the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 37-22) on Sunday afternoon.
Starter Hancel Rincon gave up four runs, two earned, in 4 1/3 innings on four hits and two walks. The right-hander struck out five.
In the third inning, the Cardinals scored three runs to tie the game. Joshua Baez came across on a fielder’s choice. Lizandro Espinoza scored one via sacrifice fly and Won-Bin Cho grounded out to plate one. Chase Adkison tied the game in the sixth inning, scoring on an error.
Out of the bullpen, Cade Winquest yielded just an unearned run in the eighth inning. The right-hander tossed 3 1/3 frames and took his seventh loss.
Cho went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks. Adkison was 2-for-3 with a double, one walk and a run scored. Unlike Game 1, the Beach Birds had plenty of scoring chances. The lineup left 11 runners on base and went 0-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
Baez stole two bases in the eight-inning contest. TCN’s no. 24 prospect has 27 this season. In the field, Rincon, Adkison and Espinoza all committed an error. Adkison also had a passed ball.
The Beach Birds are 3.5 games out of first and are on a five-game losing streak. They clinched a playoff spot in the first half.
