When times are tough, true colors show through. But even when things get better, old habits refuse to die.
– Baltimore is one of the success stories of MLB in 2023 with a good young team.
– In recent years, the O’s had struggled, especially in Tampa.
– The two teams held a recent series there. In the pre-game Media Notes prepared by the team, they highlighted the lack of success for the O’s there with factual results.
– The O’s TV team took those facts and made a graphic, which was shown on the game telecast.
– The announcer who covered this on-air as the graphic was displayed was suspended by team ownership. Not because it was untrue, but apparently because it made the O’s look bad.https://awfulannouncing.com/mlb/kevin-brown-baltimore-orioles-masn-suspension.html
The Orioles have been trashed across the country, for good reason.
This is a prime example why independent media needs to remain.

August 8, 2023 at 2:15 pm #230918Hopefully the Cardinals booth guys will say no to the infographics emphasizing how bad we’re doing. There’s no need to draw us a picture, but maybe Baltimore fans are kinda slow.
August 8, 2023 at 2:32 pm #230919I saw this yesterday. Seems strange and not a good look for the team. Thought there had to be something deeper they’re not telling us, but maybe not.
Pretty much all media seems to be not-so-transparently aligned with some viewpoint or agenda and this is why their trust ratings are so low. I guess trashing the Os on this one seems like a no-brainer for all of them.
August 8, 2023 at 4:06 pm #230925I guess the O’s media guys kinda went out on a limb there. We all usually work for somebody so you have to do what they want. Ownership still has to sell tickets.Nothing wrong with knowing where you are really at conversely. At a lower level its best to keep things positive and always strive to improve. The graphic as a wake up or motivation tool is ok. Saying its all ok as the ship is sinking is not. Free speech is ok if you run your own business. O’s are good this year but it took ’em a long time to get back there- hope it doesn’t go that way for us!
August 8, 2023 at 5:50 pm #230933So long as a reasonable amount of access to a baseball team depends on what any of these guys say or write, they won’t air or print anything that could restrict that access. Even the local paper here in StL. serves up a daily dose of what could be described as sugarcoated cupcake coverage. I don’t have to worry about much that is said and aired on TV broadcasts because the sound is muted for nearly the entire game only because it gets stale and wearisome hearing most of these people recite what is obviously a script designed to lay a screen for the failures of the people they cover.
August 8, 2023 at 7:22 pm #230951Wow, Oriole management is a little thin skinned. He get suspended to that comment? It was actually a positive thing to say.
Certainly a black eye in the midst of a great season for Baltimore. I doubt Brown works for them again, even if they want him to come back.
That decision backfired big time on the club’s management.
