DSL Cardinals 0 at DSL Giants Orange 3
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (11-25) were blanked by the Giants Orange (19-15) on Monday afternoon.
Right-hander Jefferson Moran had a strong start, pitching five scoreless frames and yielding just three hits and no walks. The 19-year-old fanned seven.
Out of the bullpen, Giovanni Vargas surrendered three runs, two earned, in 1/3 of an inning on four hits and one strikeout. The right-hander took his second loss. Yordy Herrera struck out five in 1 2/3 hitless frames. Guanchi Martinez tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
The Cardinals recorded four hits, all singles, and five walks. Facundo Velasquez walked twice and the lineup went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Behind the plate, Chris Lopez committed a throwing error.
The Cardinals are in seventh place, 16.5 games out of first in the Dominican Summer League South.
