Despite scoring 28 runs Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals system won just one of three games as the pitching yielded 32 runs. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Nick Dunn, recorded four hits, three RBI and a run scored in Springfield’s walkoff loss. Other standouts include Masyn Winn, L.J. Jones, Ramon Mendoza and Osvaldo Tovalin.

The Memphis Redbirds (44-46) were defeated by the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 39-50) at AutoZone Park on Sunday.
Matthew Liberatore gave up three runs on three hits and seven walks in 2 1/3 innings. The left-hander fanned five and took his second Triple-A loss of 2023. In relief, Tommy Parsons surrendered six runs in 2 1/3 innings on six hits, three walks and one punchout.
After the Stripers made it 3-0 in the third, the Redbirds came back with two runs in the bottom half. Masyn Winn doubled to bring a run across and advanced to third after Richie Palacios was thrown out at home. Winn came across on a wild pitch. In the seventh, Winn scored another run via single.
Grant Black was touched for an unearned run in 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Dalton Roach yielded a run in the eighth and Kodi Whitley pitched a scoreless ninth.
The lineup recorded seven hits, six walks and went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Winn went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. As the DH, Tyler O’Neill was 1-for-4 with a single and one walk in his continuing rehab assignment.
In the field, Taylor Motter committed a throwing error, his 10th of the season.
After winning the first game of the series on Friday, Memphis dropped the final two games. They sit 14 games out of first in the International League West.

Springfield 12 at Wichita 13 (10 innings)
In a Sunday slugfest, the Springfield Cardinals (7-8) were walked off by the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 7-8) in extra innings at Riverfront Stadium.
Starter Edgar Escobar tossed four innings and was charged with six runs. The 26-year-old yielded nine hits, two walks and one strikeout. Bryan Pope surrendered three runs in 2/3 of an inning.
After Wichita scored a run in the third, the Cardinals responded with six runs in the next two innings. L.J. Jones tied the game with a single in the fourth. Victor Scott II tripled to clear the loaded bases. In the fifth, Mike Antico singled to score one and Jones grounded out to make the score 6-1.
The Wind Surge put up eight runs in the fifth inning, but Springfield recaptured the lead in the sixth. Nick Dunn and Antico singled to make it a one-run game. Jones doubled as the Cards took a 10-9 lead. Dunn added one more in the seventh with a single, but Wichita tied the game again in the bottom half.
Brandon Komar was touched for two runs in two innings on four hits, a walk and one strikeout. Ryan Shreve threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Andre Granillo took his fourth loss after he gave up two runs, one earned, in an inning-plus.
With a tie game in the ninth, the contest went into extra innings. Dunn drove in the go-ahead run with a double, but again the pen could not hold the lead. The Wind Surge answered with a walk-off inside the park home run in the home half.
Dunn went 4-for-6 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Jose Alvarez recorded three hits and four Cardinals had two hits. Jones drove in four runs and Chandler Redmond collected four walks and a double. The lineup had 17 hits, six walks and left 11 runners on base.
The pitching gave up 21 hits and struck out only two batters.
On the base paths, Scott took his fifth Double-A bag.
Springfield went 2-1 at Wichita this weekend and is tied for second place in the Texas League North.

The Peoria Chiefs (12-6) topped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 9-9) on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.
Max Rajcic pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits and three walks. TCN’s no. 12 prospect struck out four. Edgar Manzo earned his first win of 2023 after he yielded a run in 1 1/3 innings with two punchouts.
The Chiefs struck in the second inning with three runs. Tyler Reichenborn drove in two with a triple and Alex Iadisernia brought him home via single. After Wisconsin made it a one-run game in the third, Peoria added four runs in the bottom half. Ramon Mendoza and Osvaldo Tovalin singled to score one apiece. Thomas Francisco and Reichenborn each recorded a sacrifice fly.

Out of the bullpen, Jack Ralston surrendered a solo home run in one inning. Andrew Marrero struck out four in two hitless frames.
After the Timber Rattlers tied the game in the sixth, Tovalin blasted a three-run home run in the home half, his sixth of the season. Nathan Church singled in the seventh to plate one and Mendoza hit a two-run homer in the eighth, his third, to put the game away.

Mendoza went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Tovalin was 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs and a homer. Reichenborn singled, tripled, drove in three and came across twice. Church also had a multi-hit game with two. The lineup went an efficient 8-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
On the base paths, R.J. Yeager and Reichenborn both took a bag. In right field, Reichenborn committed a fielding error.
Peoria went 2-1 at home the Timber Rattlers this week. They are in first place in the Midwest League West, one game ahead of Cedar Rapids.

Palm Beach at Daytona – Canceled (two games)
The scheduled doubleheader between the Palm Beach Cardinals (3-13) and Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 9-7) was canceled due to inclement weather. The games will not be made up.
The Beach Birds lost their only game versus the Tortugas this weekend. They are in last place in the Florida State League East and are six games out of first.

FCL Cardinals – Off
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (9-17) were off Sunday. The rookie Cardinals are in last place in the Florida Complex League East.

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (10-19) did not have a scheduled game on Sunday. In the Dominican Summer League South, the rookie Birds are in seventh place.
