The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-4 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Jacob Buchberger, was a triple shy of the cycle with a walk, two runs and two RBI. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Aaron McKeithan, R.J. Yeager and Bracewell Taveras.

The Memphis Redbirds (38-36) were walked off by the Iowa Cubs (CHC, 43-29) on Saturday night at Principal Park.
Michael McGreevy tossed 5 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on six hits and two walks. TCN’s no. 4 prospect fanned eight.
The Redbirds scored a run in the fourth after Masyn Winn blasted a solo home run, his eighth of the year. After the Cubs took the lead in the fifth, Luken Baker hit his 19th homer of the season in the seventh, a solo shot.

Ryan Loutos pitched 2 1/3 scoreless frames with two punchouts. In the ninth, Kodi Whitley yielded five runs and took his fourth loss of 2023.
Memphis put up three runs in the ninth to take the lead. Baker came across on a wild pitch. Chase Pinder doubled to bring two runs home. The Cubs responded with five runs in the bottom half.
Baker, Pinder and Juniel Querecuto all had two hits. Baker went 2-for-3 with one walk, a homer and two runs. Pinder drove in two. The lineup went 3-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Pinder had an outfield assist in right field.
Sunday’s game: at Iowa, RHP Dakota Hudson (4-4, 5.57) vs. RHP Ben Brown (3-4, 3.77) 1:08 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (34-34) fell to the Frisco RoughRiders (TEX, 30-37) at Riders Field on Saturday.
Starter Wilfredo Pereira surrendered eight runs, six earned, on seven hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out three and took his fourth loss.
After the RoughRiders scored five runs in the second, the Cardinals got on the board in the fourth. Chandler Redmond had an RBI single but Frisco responded with one in the bottom half and three in the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Springfield put up four runs. L.J. Jones singled to plate one and Noah Mendlinger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jose Alvarez grounded into a forceout to score one and Justin Toerner brought in a run via sacrifice fly.
In relief, Bryan Pope yielded a run in 1 2/3 innings on three hits, a walk and four punchouts. Logan Sawyer yielded two runs in one inning. Jack Ralston pitched a scoreless frame.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the ninth inning to make the score 11-7. Nick Dunn doubled and Jacob Buchberger blasted a two-run home run, his 12th of the year.
Buchberger was a triple shy of the cycle with four hits, a walk, two RBI and two runs. Dunn recorded the only other multi-hit game with two. The lineup left seven runners on base after they had 11 hits and one walk.
Arquímedes Gamboa committed a throwing error at shortstop.
Sunday’s game: at Frisco, LHP Kenny Hernandez (7-2, 5.29) vs. RHP Nick Krauth (1-4, 6.69) 6:05 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (2-0) topped the Quad Cities River Bandits (KC, 0-2) at Modern Woodmen Park.
After an hour rain delay, starter Alex Cornwell pitched 6 1/3 innings and yielded one run on six hits and a walk. TCN’s no. 37 prospect struck out two.
Quad Cities took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The Chiefs tied the game in the seventh after Thomas Francisco doubled home Darlin Moquete. In the eighth, Peoria took a two-run lead. Aaron McKeithan and Osvaldo Tovalin both singled to make the score 3-1.
Out of the bullpen, Roy Garcia threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. The 22-year-old earned his third High-A win.
McKeithan went 4-for-4 with four singles and one RBI. Nathan Church and Francisco both had two RBI. Tovalin recorded the only other Peoria hit. The lineup went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Francisco was caught stealing. Tyler Reichenborn threw a runner out at home from right field.
Sunday’s game: at Quad Cities, RHP Zane Mills (4-2, 7.02) vs. RHP William Fleming (2-2, 3.60) 1:00 CT
The Palm Beach Cardinals (0-1) were edged by the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 1-0) on Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
After an hour-and-a-half delay, Cade Winquest only pitched one inning and gave up four runs on four hits and a walk. The right-hander took his fourth loss and struck out two. Luis Gastelum recorded two scoreless innings.
The Tortugas scored four runs in the first inning and the Beach Birds responded with two in the next two innings. Michael Curialle had an RBI single to score one in the second. In the third, Alex Iadisernia hit a solo homer, his ninth of the year.
Out of the bullpen, Angel Cuenca yielded two runs in two frames. Jose Davila struck out two in three scoreless innings.
Palm Beach scored a run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Iadisernia singled to plate one in the sixth and Leonardo Bernal recorded an RBI double in the seventh. In the eighth, José Fermín blasted a solo home run in his rehab assignment.
R.J. Yeager went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and two runs. Iadisernia and Curialle both had two hits. The Cardinals went 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (5-8) were defeated by the Mets (9-6) at St. Lucie Sports Complex.
Starter Ruben Menes pitched 1 2/3 innings and yielded seven runs, five earned, on five hits and two walks. The right-hander fanned one and took his first loss. Ettore Giulianelli threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Miguel Martinez fanned two in a scoreless inning.
The Mets scored seven of their eight runs in the first two innings. In the sixth, Jose Suarez blasted a solo home run, his second of the season. Todd Lott grounded out to bring across a run in the eighth during his rehab assignment.
John Lynch recorded two scoreless innings with one punchout. In 1/3 of an inning, Samuel Fabian gave up a run. Diorys Guerrero recorded 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Cardinals had two hits and seven walks. Suarez homered and walked. Anyelo Encarnacion singled and walked twice. The lineup went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
On the bases, Jonathan Mejia stole his third bag of the season. Encarnacion and Mejia both committed errors.
Monday’s game: vs. FCL Nationals, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT (The Cardinals are off Sunday)
DSL Cardinals 7, DSL Phillies Red 6 (10 innings)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (4-10) walked off the Phillies Red (9-5) on Saturday afternoon.
Brailyn Paulino tossed two innings and allowed four runs on four hits, a walk and three strikeouts. In relief, Yordy Herrera gave up one run on a hit, three walks and three punchouts. Jarol Baez surrendered a run in the sixth inning.
After the Phillies put up four runs in the first, the Cardinals responded with one in the home half. Bracewell Taveras singled to plate one. Heriberto Caraballo came across on a wild pitch. The Phillies made it 6-2 in the sixth.
The Cardinals’ back end of the bullpen did not allow a run. Giovanni Vargas pitched two scoreless frames. Jovi Galvez and Bernard Mack both had scoreless innings. Mack earned the win, his first of the season.
In the eighth, Marcelo Perez and Daniel Rojas both singled to make it a two-run contest. Facundo Velasquez and Elias Reynoso each scored on a wild pitch in the ninth. Taveras walked off the Phillies in the 10th via sacrifice fly.
Taveras and Caraballo both had two hits. Yordalin Pena, Fernando Roquez and Velasquez all walked twice. Taveras plated two runs. The lineup went 4-for-20 with runners in scoring position but found a way to win in the 10th inning.
On the bases, Pena was picked off. Perez and Pena both committed errors.
