    Paid - Annual

With no games on Wednesday and Thursday, there are no game threads either. So feel free to use this thread for any general Cardinals topic you want to discuss that does not warrant its own thread.

Anyone know the last time the Cards had two consecutive scheduled days off? (Not caused by weather)

I can’t remember it ever happening. It is kind of like a mini all star break.

It was scheduled as one day off, then the KC series, then another day off.

On the radio post game show Memorial Day, it was reported that Cardinal brass lobbied for the Memorial Day home game, and mlb obliged.

Not sure if this was the last time, BW, but no one played any games from 9-11 to 9-16 in 2001.

True about 9/11 but those days off were not scheduled.

I guess because April was so bad, we are supposed to celebrate a 15-13 May as a “turnaround”.

Let’s define turn around as the teams ahead of us have a bad month.

No, it sure wasn’t BW. And I can’t remember if everyone started back playing on the same day, but I’ll never forget Jack Buck’s heartfelt address to the crowd at Busch Memorial. Almost seems like just the other day.

The answer is 1978. I found this in the “turnaround” article from the P-D.

They’ve got back-to-back scheduled days off for the first time — excluding All-Star breaks — since Sept. 27-28, 1978, when they had a two-day break in the schedule in New York City due to Shea Stadium being used as dual purpose stadium for both the NFL’s Jets and MLB’s Mets. The stadium transition necessitated the gap in the schedule.

Thanks, gscottar. Almost 45 years ago!

Just think if we had to suffer through a season like the Redbirds had in 1978. We’d all be losing our minds. When I think about playing the 1978 Cardinals in Strat-O-Matic I usually cringe.

Freddie Freeman’s now beginning to stand in the way of Acuna Jr. for the frontrunner for NL MVP. In my view, he’s clearly the best hitter in the NL and probably the entire Big Leagues. Freddie’s no joke and seems to never slump. He covers all areas of the strike zone, sprays the baseball over all areas of the field, hits for average and hits for power. He just hits. And not only does he hit, he looks real good doing it. With the possible exception of Altuve, I think Freddie’s the odds on favorite to be the next player to reach the 3000 hit plateau.

The Chubs lost so we have moved out of the basement, percentage points ahead of them. I think our best tactic is to not play.

That may be a solid strategy, Bling. No matter what happens tomorrow, we’ll have attained 2 in a row.
