The St. Louis Cardinals system went 4-1 on Saturday as Springfield took two. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Moisés Gómez, had a four-hit game including two home runs and a double in Memphis’ loss. Other standouts include Masyn Winn, Mike Antico, Thomas Francisco and R.J. Yeager.

Memphis 8, Jacksonville 9 (11 innings)
For the second consecutive game, the Memphis Redbirds (20-12) were edged by the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA, 16-14) in extra innings at AutoZone Park.
Matthew Liberatore pitched 5 1/3 innings and was charged with four runs on seven hits and three walks. TCN’s no. 8 prospect fanned six. Ryan Loutos struck out three but gave up a run in 1 2/3 innings.
The Redbirds scored seven of their eight runs in the first four innings, six off veteran Johnny Cueto. Moisés Gómez blasted a solo homer in the first. Masyn Winn hit a three-run shot in the second, his fifth of 2023. Gómez homered again in the third and Luken Baker followed him with a solo home run, his 12th of the season. Winn came across in the fourth on a throwing error to make the score 7-1.

Jake Walsh surrendered three runs in two innings on three hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Jose Martinez pitched two innings and yielded an unearned run on a bases-loaded walk in the 11th to take his first loss of the season.
In the eighth, Oscar Mercado brought in a run via sacrifice fly. The Jumbo Shrimp responded with three in the ninth inning. With the potential winning run on third in the 11th and two out, Juniel Querecuto struck out on three pitches to end the contest.
Baker is now tied with Max Muncy and Jo Adell for the most home runs in professional baseball at 12. Gómez went 4-for-6 with two solo homers and Winn had two hits, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. The lineup went 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

Springfield 6, Arkansas 4 (7 innings, Game 1)
The Springfield Cardinals (12-13) topped the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 15-10) on Saturday in game one of the doubleheader. The twin bill made up Thursday’s rainout.
Starter Logan Gragg surrendered all four the Travelers’ runs in 5 1/3 innings. The right-hander yielded eight hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
After Arkansas scored in the third, Arquímedes Gamboa responded with an RBI double in the home half. He came home after two Arkansas errors to tie the game at 2-2. Jose Alvarez gave the Cardinals the lead via a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Nick Trogrlic-Iverson tossed a scoreless 2/3 of an inning and earned his first Double-A win. Andre Granillo saved his first game of the season after a scoreless seventh.
The Travelers took the lead in the sixth but the Cardinals responded again. In the bottom half, L.J. Jones tied the game with an RBI double. Mike Antico brought Jones across to take the lead. Justin Toerner added one more run with a single to make the score 6-4.
The lineup recorded five hits and seven walks. Nick Dunn walked twice and every starter except Alvarez was on base at least once. Springfield went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position,
Toerner took his first bag in Double-A this season.
Springfield 4, Arkansas 3 (7 innings, Game 2)
The Springfield Cardinals (13-13) beat the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 15-11) on Hammons Field in game two of the doubleheader.
Starter Connor Lunn only pitched 1 2/3 innings and was touched for three runs on three hits, two walks and four strikeouts.
Springfield scored all four runs in the first two innings. Chandler Redmond doubled to score a run in the first but the Travelers responded with three in the second. In the home half of the second, Antico blasted a two-run shot to tie the game, his fifth of 2023. Matt Koperniak followed him with a solo homer to take the lead.
Edgar Escobar recorded 4 1/3 scoreless innings. The 26-year-old fanned six and yielded only a hit and one walk. Jack Ralston saved his first game of the year after a perfect seventh with two strikeouts.
Antico recorded two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Koperniak also had two hits in the contest. Irving Lopez walked three times. The Cardinals moved their record up to .500 after the sweep of the doubleheader.
Sunday’s game: vs. Arkansas, RHP Brandon Komar (1-1, 4.12) vs. RHP Emerson Hancock (2-1, 6.11) 1:35 CT
After a rain delay, the Peoria Chiefs (14-12) defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 8-17) on Saturday night at Dozer Park.
Alex Cornwell tossed seven innings and was touched for three runs. The left-hander yielded eight hits, a walk and three strikeouts.
The Timber Rattlers scored two runs in the first but the Chiefs responded in the home half. Victor Scott II blasted a solo home run, his second of the year. In the second, Francisco Hernandez tripled to score Thomas Francisco. Peoria took the lead on Noah Mendlinger’s RBI single.
In the fourth, Scott plated Mendlinger. Elijah Cabell came across due to a Wisconsin error. Francisco added two more insurance runs in the seventh via a double.
Bryan Pope pitched the final two innings and was lights out with no runs yielded. The right-hander struck out two.
Francisco went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Scott and Mendlinger both recorded two hits. Every Chiefs player had a hit except Aaron McKeithan, who walked twice. Peoria is going for the series sweep over Wisconsin on Sunday.
Scott took his 21st bag of the year and Jeremy Rivas stole his fourth. Scott is still leading all of professional baseball in stolen bases.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (15-11) destroyed the visiting Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 9-17) at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday night.
Starter Brycen Mautz was charged with four runs, one earned, in four innings. TCN’s no. 13 prospect struck out three. Chris Gerard earned his second win of the season after two scoreless innings.
The Beach Birds scored all 13 runs between the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Alex Iadisernia hit a solo homer and Brody Moore singled in a run. Lizandro Espinoza brought across a run on a fielder’s choice and Adanson Cruz grounded into a force out but plated the tying run.
In the fifth, R.J. Yeager gave the Cardinals the lead via a single. After his bases-loaded triple, Espinoza was called out at home but Palm Beach increased their lead to 8-4.
Chris Rotondo scored in the sixth after an error by the pitcher. Yeager blasted a grand slam, his fourth homer of the year, to give Palm Beach a nine-run lead.

Michael Brettell recorded a scoreless eighth inning with a strikeout. John Lynch gave up an unearned run in the ninth.
With the assistance of three Daytona errors, the Cardinals scored 13 runs on nine hits and 10 walks. Leonardo Bernal walked three times and came across three times. Moore also walked three times and added a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Yeager recorded two hits, five RBI and three runs scored and Espinoza plated four runs.
Cruz took his second bag of the season.
The Cardinal defense committed six errors in the contest. Espinoza had three at shortstop. Iadisernia, Moore and Cruz all committed one.
