The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Wednesday. For the second consecutive day, The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Masyn Winn. The shortstop went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Memphis’ win. Other standouts include Matthew Liberatore, Paul DeJong, Osvaldo Tovalin and Michael Curialle.

The Memphis Redbirds prevailed over the Stripers (Atl) despite a ninth-inning rally in a 10-7 road win on Wednesday night. Starter Matthew Liberatore pitched seven innings, gave up two runs on three hits, struck out 10 and walked three. Liberatore won his third game in three starts and lowered his ERA to 1.08.

Kodi Whitley surrendered one run in the eighth. With a seven-run lead, Grant Black pitched the ninth and allowed a grand slam.
Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. It began with a walk to Kramer Robertson and a Masyn Winn single. Ivan Herrera drew a walk to load the bases. Moises Gomez’ sac fly scored Robertson.
Gwinnett tied the score in the bottom of the first. The Redbirds regained the lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Juniel Querecuto.
The Stripers tied the game again in the bottom of the second. In the third, St. Louis rehabber Paul DeJong plated two runs on a double to left field.
Memphis extended their lead with a four-run fourth. Masyn Winn thumped a two-run home run. DeJong followed with an RBI single. Gomez drove in DeJong on a double.

The Redbirds increased their lead to 9-2 in the seventh on a Querecuto single, then to 10-2 in the eighth on a solo home run by Herrera.
The Stripers added a run in the bottom of the eighth. In the ninth, a Gwinnett grand slam narrowed the margin to 10-7, but Memphis prevailed.
Winn was 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. DeJong was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Herrera was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Querecuto was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Oscar Mercado was 2-for-5. Gomez drove in two.
On the base paths, Querecuto stole his second base of the season.
Memphis is 6-5 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Gwinnett, Dakota Hudson RHP (0-1, 4.66) vs. Nolan Kingham RHP (0-1, 9.00) 6:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals were blown out by the Travelers on Wednesday in Little Rock. Starter Brandon Komar pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up five runs on six hits, struck out two and walked three. Komar took the loss, his first of the season.
Another 2023 newcomer, Jose Martinez, relieved and surrendered three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Logan Sawyer relinquished four runs in 1 1/3 innings. Edgar Escobar tossed the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Arkansas took a 4-0 lead in the first two innings with one run in the first and three more in the second.
Springfield answered with two runs in the third on a double by L.J. Jones. In the fourth and sixth innings the Travelers posted four more runs to increase the lead to 8-2.
The Cardinals added a third run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk by Nick Raposo. Arkansas responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to run up the score to 12-3.
The Springfield offense scored three runs on eight hits. Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jose Alvarez was 2-for-4. The offense was 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.
On the base paths, Arquimedes Gamboa stole his first base of the season. Alvarez was caught stealing. In the field, Jacob Buchberger and Raposo each made a throwing error.
Springfield is 1-4 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Arkansas, Michael McGreevy RHP (0-0, 0.00) vs. Bryce Miller RHP (0-0, 8.31) 6:35 CT.
Peoria topped the Timber Rattlers in a one run road win on Wednesday. It was the Chiefs’ first Midwest League victory of the young season. Starter Zane Mills pitched five innings, gave up four runs on six hits, struck out four and walked two.
Ian Bedell surrendered one run in two innings of relief while securing all six outs via the strikeout. Bedell was tagged with a blown save but thanks to an offensive rally, he also received the win, his first of the season. Bryan Pope threw a scoreless eighth before Andrew Marrero allowed one run in the ninth and picked up his first save.
Wisconsin took the initial lead with single runs in the second and third. Peoria tied it up in the fourth on a Nathan Church single and a steal of home by Elijah Cabell.
The Chiefs took the lead 3-2 in the fifth on an RBI single by Ramon Mendoza. In the sixth, Wisconsin put up three runs to go ahead 5-3.
The Chiefs cut the lead to 5-4 in the seventh on a Mendoza sac fly. Peoria regained the lead in the eighth on a two-run home run by Osvaldo Tovalin.

In the top of the ninth, the Chiefs increased their lead to 7-5 on a sac fly by Thomas Francisco. Wisconsin added a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough.
Tovalin was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Wade Stauss was 2-for-4. Victor Scott II was 2-for-5.
On the base paths, Cabell and Church each stole their first base. Scott II stole his fourth base. Tovalin was caught stealing.
Peoria is 1-4 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Wisconsin, RHP Tink Hence (0-0, 0.00hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) vs. Cameron Wagoner RHP (0-1, 4.50) 6:40 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals were defeated by the Tortugas by a 9-6 score on Wednesday in Daytona. In his professional debut, starter Joseph King pitched four innings, gave up three runs on three hits, struck out five and walked two.
Cade Winquest relieved and surrendered one run in 1 2/3 innings. Roy Garcia allowed three runs in one inning pitched and took the loss. Victor Villanueva got the final out of the seventh but relinquished two more runs in the eighth. Chris Gerard finished with a scoreless frame.
Palm Beach got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Joshua Baez drew a walk and scored on a triple by Won-Bin Cho. Cho came home on a single by Michael Curialle. In the top of the third, the Beach Birds increased their lead to 5-0 on a two-run home run by Leonardo Bernal and a solo home run by Baez.
The Tortugas scored three runs in the third and fourth to bring the score to 5-3.
Daytona continued to chip away at the lead with one run in the sixth. They took the lead in the seventh with three runs to make it 7-5. It became 9-5 in the eighth.
The Cardinals added one additional run in the ninth on a triple by Curialle and a wild pitch.
Curialle went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Bernal drove in two with his long ball.
On the base paths, Curialle stole two bases. In the field, Chris Rotondo had two outfield assists, both at second base.
Palm Beach is 1-4 on the season.
