rid the roster of both Goldschmidt and Arenado… Begin a rebuild… start with speed and defense…and a strong starting staff…. Bring back whiteyball…. and the postseason appearances will return..

ParticipantOh, brother.
December 20, 2022 at 1:02 pm #209546The asylum has been emptied.
December 20, 2022 at 5:20 pm #209582Is today April 1st? Maybe my calendar is off. But at least I got a good laugh.
December 20, 2022 at 5:35 pm #209587It does make me wonder how that 82 team would do against today’s clubs!
December 20, 2022 at 6:20 pm #209591Let’s see, going back to 2000 – only one sub-.500 team; 16 playoff appearances, including the last four years; 4 World Series appearances; 2 Championships. Seems like the post season appearances never left.
I do like the idea of more speed in the lineup. The defense has been there all along.
December 20, 2022 at 6:40 pm #209593This group isn’t the collection of sprinters of the ’80’s, but it’s my impression that they actually have quite a few guys who not only run quite well on the basepaths, but also pose a genuine SB threat. In the TLR era it sometimes seemed like the only guys who could run were off the bench. I was also looking at some top 10 all-time team stats for Cardinal players and happened to notice that none other than Tommy Edman is the all-time Redbird leader in SB success ratio. Yep, even better than Vinny or Lou.
December 20, 2022 at 7:20 pm #209595Don’t forget astroturf. Gotta have astroturf.
December 21, 2022 at 8:48 am #209624I would trade Goldschmidt for the right starting pitcher.
This version of the Cards can compete for the title with a couple of front line starting pitchers – where ever they come from – trades, inside the organization, does not matter as long as we end up with a true #1 and #2.
If the rotation turns into a patched up MASH unit again then 2023 will = 2022.

BUT…with the changes to the bases, the limited throw overs, and the stolen base being undervalued IMO
I could see a speedy contact team with good defense being put together for a team with limited assets or one trying to reinvent themselves
Not all these guys are available, most arent, but it’s the idea
c- Varsho
1- Arraez
2- Edman
3- Berti
ss- Mondesi
lf- Mateo
cf- McCarthy
rf- Adolis G
dh- Straw
bench- d moore, Hamilton, F Mejia, M Rojas, K Farmerpitching is always tough, but make it a pitchers park, make it as deep as possible, crazy nooks and crannies for balls to get to, trust the team speed on defense to help you and harm the opponent
ground ballers…maybe vets at the end of the line…4-5 inning guys
and spend on your closer and relief corps-goal is to get on…then steal…green light all day…
-Arraez serves as contact first 3 spot guy (multi positional)
– multi position is big
– get on then steal… have enough base stealers on your bench to turn any base hit into a triple and bring them in
– not trying for multi run innings….base on balls with no outs…steal…bunt em over..sac fly in, that’s the goalbe fun to watch if nothign else
but gutting THIS team…for some pipe dream of days gone by….come on
December 22, 2022 at 9:59 am #209695agree with Tommy Edman assessment…probably our most valuable cardinal player.
