I just saw him hit a 3 run HR against Boston. He has 12 HR’s in 30 games and a 2.0 WAR .

ParticipantGood for him. Wish him well. He was a disaster in 2019, 2020, and 2021 with the Cardinals.
July 16, 2022 at 7:06 pm #191517I think the cardinals approach just does not work for some players like Carp and DeJong. Maybe some of the players we offed and are doing well in that group too. It is too bad the system is not nimble enough to fit players in, but I think it is our way or the highway.
July 16, 2022 at 7:43 pm #191521Didn’t he hit a 3 run bomb in boston last sunday?
I mean he’s found a role where he’s used the way he should be. Good for him! Might find a contract next year as a bench-DH bat somewhere.
July 16, 2022 at 7:46 pm #191522I am happy for him…he was a good Cardinal.
July 16, 2022 at 8:52 pm #191527He’s hit 13 homeruns in 30 games for the Yankees.
It figures….
July 16, 2022 at 9:13 pm #191531Rangers probably wishing they didn’t release him earlier this year
July 16, 2022 at 9:50 pm #191532Adolis Garcia….
July 17, 2022 at 1:31 am #191537Joey Gallo has the same batting Coach. Go figure.
July 17, 2022 at 4:11 am #191539The “change of scenery” methodology isn’t just a myth. And “cookie cutter” molding/coaching/teaching does not work. Professional baseball players or software sales, you can’t just coach, manage, teach or treat everyone the same.
Congratulations to Carp though, since he’s in the AL and the Cards are an ace and another starter away from having a shot we don’t have to worry about facing him in the 2022 playoffs!
July 17, 2022 at 4:21 am #191540I’m happy for Matt. He did a lot of good things for us before he fell on hard times. Let’s hope he can end his career on a high note.
July 17, 2022 at 6:18 am #191543For us though, the more important aspect is that Carp’s success elsewhere is evidence of a failure here within the Cardinals’ system. Something here turned him from a good hitter to a bad hitter, and after a couple years of futility, something somewhere else reversed that. If DeJong can manage to get out, I figure he may have a chance to revert as well.
July 17, 2022 at 8:27 am #191550I think he did a lot of changing on his own in the off season.
July 17, 2022 at 9:00 am #191553Yes, he credits Joey Votto, Matt Holliday and a performance academy with helping him retool his swing.
July 17, 2022 at 9:13 am #191555It seems to have been just what was needed.

ParticipantI think it’s great for carp. Sometimes a change of scenery and a willingness to work can do wonders. I also think Yankee stadium is Taylor made for him.
July 18, 2022 at 9:28 am #191723Happy to see Matt resurrect his career. I think the new look, with the mustache and no beard is the difference. He now does not have that beard impacting his swing and can get around better.
But seriously. I have seen a few highlights of him and he seems to be letting the ball get in just a bit deeper before swinging. It is an approach that has helped Brendan Donovan make an impression. Carpenter had gotten to where he was trying to hook everything down the line, but now seems to have gotten back to hitting the ball just an inch or two later, making better contact.
