(Big sigh of relief) Seeing what Hudson had last night should eliminate most questions about what he’ll be pitching like going forward. Sure its only one game…. but for one game he pitched like his 2019 season.

Its nice having Lester around St. Louis for a Cards vs. Cubs game. I’m just glad he’ll be in the home whites.

Doppler Radar shows green stuff in the St. Louis area. Plus it shows some more southwest of St. Louis that might head that way later in the day. If this game is rained out tonight I assume it will NOT be made up, correct?

Not in a million years will it be made up, Rat.

Its been sprinkling on and off here a few miles southwest of Busch. Nothing that would stop real ball players, but you know, their hair might get frizzy.

Hate seeing Tommy E. riding the pines this evening for the sole reason that he’s in a big battle to win the NL doubles title. Coming into action today he was leading Castellanos by the slimmest of margins…..1.

At this point, I’d prefer Shildt go with the wildcard lineup to get everybody back in synch. Maybe the reason for Edman’s benching is to ease Sosa back in at 2B so he doesn’t have to make long throws from the hole. Hopefully it goes well for him tonight and they can finish out Sunday with the lineup that earned the playoff spot.

There appears to be a pile of green stuff heading towards St. Louis from the southwest. Should arrive about 7:00-8:00. Hopefully we can get this game in.

Sure hope Goldschmidt can get to 100 rbi either today or tomorrow. Would like to see Arenado crack #35 today or tomorrow as well.

Maybe they are hoping DeJong looks decent to create a bit of value. Personally, I’d rather see Rondon if they are trying to go easy on Sosa’s arm.

Along the same lines, maybe Carp got that start at 3rd to establish that he is playable there to help him land a utility job somewhere if he wants to try playing next year.

I don’t know, Bling. I think if Carp hit 5 homers in each of these last two games…and even saved a falling baby from an upper level tumble, he’s still not finding a ML job next year. Time to play ball!

Bader’s leadoff tater is the game’s lone tally as we venture on to inning #3.

We’ve had a lot of traffic on the bases since the leadoff homer. But nothing to show for it.

Lester out there goofing off walking bases loaded.

Cards have come back after Lester sputtered. Some big hits. Got the lead here in the 9th. Garcia walking a batter. Garcia has done great but he’s one of those guys that try to o nibble so he can lose it at any moment. This umpire has totally changed his strike calling this inning though in defense of Garcia.

Garcia blows it. That’s why you attack the strike zone early then try to hit your spots. Not nibble. I don’t understand why these guys don’t learn. They aren’t going to swing at the nasty stuff til they may have to. Simple

Well two terrible innings by two guys we are going to need in playoffs. Hopefully they get their stuff together. Losing this game isnt a big deal in the long run but it’s the way we lost it.

What is the purpose of a mound visit… if your not going to listen to your catcher!!!!!

Of course…. I have no idea what was discussed on the mound…. but you would think that
Yadi would have said… hey… we only need one more out… we can let this guy get on base and go after the next one. At least if I were Yadi… that’s what I would have said… knowing Garcia’s track record.

Wasn’t it Garcia pitching in the bottom of the ninth in Pittsburgh where they hit a walk off Grand Slam Home run into the river?????

Isn’t this the third time that Garcia has given up a game with late inning pitching? Or was that Reyes?

Not to good of a picture… when you are getting ready to go into a WC playoff game.

What happen to Arenado? I was bouncing back and worth between the Cards and IU… and coming back to the Cards game… I heard them mention that Arenado was out… but they didn’t expand on it.

I think Shildt gave some of the players some time off tonight. Goldschmidt and Arenado were both removed.

The big take away: With a one run lead you can’t walk somebody, especially late, and especially in the ninth inning. This winter it will be interesting to see how much credence is given to looking good in September but not so good the rest of the season. Hopefully we can improve on the one month wonders.

    Other truths:

It is fitting that a guy we gave away got the save for the bad guys, his 5th.

DeJong will finish the season under .200 over 400 PAs, a meaningful sample size. We are still on the hook for $17 Million, including the buyout after 2023. Ouch.

Carp went Ofer dropping his BA to .167, same as Lester’s BA. That is about a 20 point drop from his 2020 BA. Its hard to see a career Cardinal with a WS ring go out this way.

You can’t expect to win when the Nootster doesn’t get in the game. He’s the new rally squirrel.

A lot of quality arms in that Cardinal pen, but not one clear cut dependable closer amongst them. And that’s a problem. I echo Blings’s sentiments about the.”Nootster”. Thousands paid good cash money last night. I’m sure most walked out of that stadium shaking their head wondering “why no Noot…..why no Noot”?

In Garcia’s defense the home plate ump squeezed him big time. He had Garcia struck out twice but the ump didn’t call it. If that had been a game that mattered I expect someone on the Cardinals would have been ejected.
