Watching the Reds game.
Wade Miley got Seager in a pick-off run down between 1st and 2nd.
But when I went back to the replay to watch Miley… his leg came up
and he stepped towards the area between home plate and the dugout when
he made his throw over to 1st.It seems like I’ve seen this with him before. I thought the rule was that
your step had to be towards first base????? His movement is always towards home plate!!!!Well good…. Dodges hit two home runs against him now…. 3-0 Dodgers!!!!

You need a miter gauge to answer this one. From those pictures is looks okay to me (I was a lefty pitcher high school age). It was always explained to me that you split the 90 degree angle between 1B and home plate for lefties, so you have a 45 degree angle from the rubber that arcs from 1B to halfway to the plate. If your right foot lands in that arc, you’re okay. Lefties are sometimes given leniency on that. Miley’s look away to the plate has no impact. EDIT HERE:
Also, the right foot cannot swing behind the rubber, i.e, the outfield side of the rubber, at any point during the delivery to 1B or it is a balk. The foot can go behind the rubber if the delivery is to the plate. So base stealers know they can take off when the right foot swings behind the rubber.
