Yadier Molina has lost a quartet of his St. Louis Cardinals teammates from this weekend’s “Brawl at the Beach.” The home run derby and softball game benefiting the catcher’s Foundation 4 will be held in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Friday and Saturday.
Among the Cardinals originally listed as participating were outfielder Jon Jay, closer Jason Motte, outfielder Carlos Beltran, shortstop Rafael Furcal and catcher Tony Cruz, the latter noted as a first baseman.
All except Cruz have since pulled out (if they were ever committed), with Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo a new addition to the roster. “The Secret Weapon” ended his MLB playing career 16 years ago.
The main attraction at the charity events remain the three catching Molina brothers, Bengie, Jose and Yadier. Recent news is that eldest brother Bengie is expected to become the new assistant hitting coach for St. Louis.
