    RIP, 6/1/21.

    What a horse. His nickname was “Iron Mike”. In 1974 he pitched in 106 games, all out of the bullpen. Threw 208 1/3 innings. That’s long before pitchers started being babied in the era of specialization.

    Sorry to hear this. Marshall was of the opinion that there is no reason pitchers cannot pitch much longer than the mantra of today, and stay healthy. I believe he taught the technics of arm strength and flexibility.

    In today’s major leagues, when a starter pitches 200+ innings in a year he’s considered a workhorse. Guys like Gibson, Spahn, Marichal, Drysdale, etc. at times pitched 300+ innings.
