8:40 p.m.
RHP Carlos Martínez (3-4, 4.18) vs. RHP Matt Peacock (1-1, 4.91) – changed to RHP Jon Duplantier (2021 debut)
BSM // KMOX
Also BSSW+ in Oklahoma and Arkansas and BSSE in TN, KY and MSMay 26, 2021 at 6:41 pm #162494I still believe it’s imperative that we win three of these four against the Dbacks. Even after the 4-0 win at Comiskey on Wednesday afternoon. Remember, looming large is that three game series with the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium next week. And more than likely we will see Bauer. Since Kershaw pitched on Tuesday night I assume he will pitch their Sunday game against the Giants in Los Angeles. Assume we will probably get Walker Buehler at some point as well. I’ll take one of the three and be happy.
But let’s handle business in Arizona first. Carpenter likes to hit there so who knows, maybe he will see a start a two there.

May 27, 2021 at 9:19 am #162516Be advised that the D-backs have now lost ten (10) in a row after coughing up a late lead at home against San Francisco. Final was 5-4 Giants. They even had the bases loaded with one out in the last of the 9th and a strikeout and groundout ended it.
I dont know if this is good or bad for the Redbirds but it is what it is.

May 27, 2021 at 11:08 am #162524This is somewhat off-topic, but I’ll throw it out there anyway. I’ve lived and worked outside the United States for many years now but there’s one thing that’s come up in my absence that I’ve never understood: What’s with this bobblehead thing? They’re ugly. They’re stupid. They don’t even look like the player they are supposed to represent. Who could possibly want one? What are you supposed to do with these things? Place them on the mantlepiece for family adoration? Decorate the kitchen window sill? The Cardinal administration treats them like gifts you are supposed to love and cherish, and the announcers tend to go on and on about them ecstatically (rather than enlightening us about the action on the field). Perhaps somebody can tell me what I’m missing.
And oh yes, I think Tommy has set a good example for our guys and they are going to whip up on these Snakes with a few long balls tonight.
Rah Cardinals!
May 27, 2021 at 12:20 pm #162525Bobbleheads have been around for a long time CIF, but I do not really get the popularity of them. When I was a kid, the only bobbleheads you saw were team mascots. They were available at the souvenir stands at stadiums, and are kind of cool because they are more-or-less cartoon-type characters. The Cardinals had a Cardinal bird bobble head. I think my sister still has the one my parents bought for her when we went to some games as kids.
I have some Hartland player statues from the early ’60s. Now those are cool, and actually look like the player.
May 27, 2021 at 12:30 pm #162526Ladies and Gents, I introduce you to the worst play in MLB history:

The only thing missing was the circus music.
May 27, 2021 at 12:31 pm #162527Will follow up CIF’s off-topic post with another one that is a bit off topic. What are people’s opinions of the Cardinal’s minor league player assessment process?
What I am getting at is how did we let Adolis Garcia go, and retain Lane Thomas? We also seemed to have missed on Randy Arozarena, and we will see how Edmundo Sosa’s season and career play out but I wonder if we almost missed on him. We may have gotten lucky with him in that after what seemed like a reluctance to play him, Shildt finally got him in there.
Does management rely too much on analytics? From my perspective, I get the sense I can see guys on television and get a good idea of whether or not they can play. I could see that Tommy Pham was a player well before the club gave him a chance. What is management seeing?
We seem to do better with pitchers. But with hitters, we seem slow to trust our system and are more apt to look elsewhere for veterans than giving our drafted guys a decent shot. Everyone misses on guys now and then, but are the Cardinals missing more often? Or maybe I just notice it more since this is the organization I closely follow.
May 27, 2021 at 1:23 pm #162529Player development that relies on three injuries and a bench hitting .100 in order to make an evaluation of a prospect is just tragic, but nonetheless I’m glad Sosa has finally seen the light of day. Perhaps he was in the doghouse, or has been wearing the cloak of invisibility that the Cubbies announcers believe Baez was wearing on the play above with the woeful Pirates.
May 27, 2021 at 1:26 pm #162530What’s with this bobblehead thing?
I’ve only owned one bobble head in my life — a Canadian Mountie I was given by my parents back circa 1965. I recently found it and it has a place of honor on our dining room hutch.
May 27, 2021 at 3:31 pm #162533Cubs down the Pirates today at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh by the score of 5-3. As I type this the Cubs and Cards are tied for 1st place. If we lose tonight we will no longer be in 1st place.
The Cubs have the Reds this weekend and then next week San Diego comes to Wrigley for a three game series. At the same time we will be in Los Angeles playing the Dodgers for three games. The following week – June 7, 8, 9 – the Cubs are in San Diego for three.

May 27, 2021 at 3:38 pm #162534I have a Dolly Parton bobblehead from Vegas but it’s not the head that bobbles.

The arms, Bling? This Peecock fellow we’re facing tonight scares me a bit. Peecock maintains a respectable 1.09 WHIP. The key tonight will be getting to Peecock early and getting to Peecock often. I’ll call this one 7-5 Birds.
May 27, 2021 at 5:44 pm #162538I was just thinking today we seem to win when knizner is behind the plate which doesnt make any sense to me but ill take it i guess.

jj-cf-stlParticipantLuke Weaver transferred from the 10day IL to the 60day IL (shoulder) – MLBTR
May 27, 2021 at 6:12 pm #162541Yikes, too bad for Weaver. I watched a game early in the season where he 1-hit the Reds for 7 innings. He had everything working and looked great.
May 27, 2021 at 6:30 pm #162542bicylemike I have an unpopular theory. But in these divided times we don’t need more divisiveness.
May 27, 2021 at 8:02 pm #162550I have a problem here. It’s raining here in SW Indiana. The Doppler Radar shows a BIG pile of green stuff in our area for the next 3-4 hours. I have DirecTV and when it rains I lose the picture. I was watching the Reds and Nationals game and lost the signal.
I sure hope I dont miss this game tonight…….

Where’s Peecock? Jon Duplantier dealing for the Diamondbacks.Edman – Whiffs watching on the minimum pitches it takes to do so
Carlson – First pitch swinging, flys out to Peralta in straight away left-center.
Goldy – Strikes out swinging, but the ball eludes Vogt behind home plate and by the time he fires it down to Smith at 1st, it’s too late.
Arenado – Hot shot grounder over the bag at 3rd, but Escobar had him shaded over that way and he nicely gloves it and successfully makes the long throw to 1st to retire the side.

Yadi – Blisters a base hit to center.
O’Neill – Oh me oh my!!! Tyler launches a monster shot to center that Arizona’s Grand Canyon couldn’t contain and it’s 2-0 Birds!
Sosa – Grounds out to SS
Williams – Hits in on the ground right at the 1st baseman Smith and he’ll gingerly saunter a few feet over to tap his right foot on the bag for the second out here in the Cardinal 2nd.
Carlos – Lines a base hit to center.
Edman – Slaps a grounder thru the hole between short and 3rd and out into left for a hit…Carlos stopping at 2nd.
Carlson – On 3-2 Dylan coaxes a walk…..bases now busting with Birds.
Goldy – Walks on 4 consecutive wayward ones…rbi Goldy and 3-zip Birds.
Arenado – Line one hop foul nails Tommy at 3rd….ouch…but tough guy Tommy appears to have perfectly weathered that storm. Nolan flies out to center to retire the side.
