Third baseman David Freese came alive with the bat on Sunday. His three RBI helped the slumping St. Louis Cardinals break their three-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over San Francisco.
They were the 27-year-old’s first three RBI of the season as he went 3-for-4 including a double. Freese had not started two of his club’s three previous games, all losses. Sunday marked his fifth three-or-more RBI game in his major league career to-date, which now consists of 95 games.
Researcher Tom Orf pulled the list below, which indicates the number of three or more RBI games logged by St. Louis players in their first 100 career games since 1920.
Freese is tied for 14th among all Cardinals, with a familiar name not surprisingly on top. When considering third basemen only, Freese ranks fourth, but still has five games to go.
