The Memphis Redbirds are the only team in the St. Louis Cardinals system still playing. On Saturday night, the Redbirds lost their second consecutive game at El Paso to bring the Pacific Coast League Championship Series to 2-2. The deciding Game 5 will be played Sunday in El Paso.
The Double-A Cardinals fell just short of a third straight Texas League playoff berth, but played well and contributed several major leaguers, including Jack Flaherty and Magneuris Sierra, with many more on the way.

After taking the first two games in the PCL Championship series, the Redbirds lost Game 3 on Friday night in El Paso. Ryan Helsley tossed six one-run innings and Tyler O’Neill was on base three times, stole a bag and made a great catch.
The Peoria Chiefs earned a Class-A Midwest League playoff berth for the third consecutive season, but again dropped their first round matchup. Leadership from Stefan Trosclair and Brian O’Keefe was crucial in their second-half surge.
After losing the first game of the week, the Memphis Redbirds fought off elimination in the Pacific Coast League Conference Finals and won the first two games of the Finals. Dakota Hudson and Kevin Herget impressed in starts while Tyler O’Neill and Patrick Wisdom have led the lineup.

Kevin Herget started it and Adolis Garcia ended it as the Memphis Redbirds took Game 2 of the Pacific Coast League finals over El Paso Thursday afternoon.
The Class A-Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals won the first half of the Florida State League South Division schedule and parlayed that into a hurricane-shortened league co-title.

The St. Louis Cardinals short-season Class-A affiliate finished five games over .500, but fell just short of a playoff berth. Key standouts included Joshua Lopez, Evan Mendoza, Scott Hurst Andrew Summerville, Daniel Castano and Levi MaVorhis.
The Peoria Chiefs' 2017 season came to an end last Friday when they were knocked out in the first round of the MWL playoffs by the Quad Cities River Bandits. Peoria took the opening game of the best-of-three series with a walk off win, however, the Chiefs inexperienced pitchers struggled in Iowa. Catcher Brian O’Keefe had a .500 OBP in the series.

The St. Louis Cardinals added outfield depth in Magneuris Sierra, and sent second baseman Breyvic Valera to Triple-A Memphis, which opens the Pacific Coast League finals on Wednesday.
The rookie-level Gulf Coast League Cardinals were unable to repeat as league champions, missing the playoffs entirely. Hitting was improved, but pitching and defense backslid compared to 2016.
The rookie-level Dominican Summer League Cardinals for 2017 had a decent offense, but with overall run scoring down and team ERA up, a bottom line of a below-.500 season was not surprising.

Myers Miracle, a Minnesota Twins affiliate. In a storm-abbreviated post-season, the Cards were declared co-league champions. Right fielder Thomas Spitz was the hero.

In Pacific Coast League playoff action, the Memphis Redbirds forced a decisive Game 5 with a comeback win at Colorado Springs Saturday night. Player of the Day Tyler O’Neill plated four late runs.

Our Players of the Day are the top three hitters in the Memphis lineup, Nick Martini, Aledmys Diaz, and Tyler O’Neill, who combined for seven runs driven in a wild playoff loss. O’Neill hit the only home run.
The push by the Cardinals short-season Class-A club to repeat as New York-Penn League champions ended in the final week. Daniel Castano’s best start may have been his last.

Thursday was the “Night of Little Offense” in St. Louis’ minors as the three teams seeing action managed a total of nine hits generating two tallies in all and three losses. Stefan Trosclair reached base three times and generated Peoria’s only score.
The Memphis Redbirds split the final week of the regular season 3-3 against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (MIL). They tied their season high 41 games above .500, finishing the regular season 91-50. Tyler O’Neill has a big week showing off his power, and Jack Flaherty was named PCL Player of the Month. The first round of the playoffs are deadlocked at one game each.
