No way TBA can slow down this Cards offense now. I’ll take it a step further than Rats, even…11-3 Cards win.

Reading your analysis of the bonus draft strategy from years past is discouraging, but hopefully they can find some space to sign a guy or two to overslot bonuses after the 10th Rd. You’d think eventually they’d hit on one or two just by the law of averages.

One thing I question and while I understand that there is *some* leverage involved for college juniors…do they really have that much leverage? If they go back to school, they’d better hope they improve their stock a whole lot, because if they go in the 5th round or later as seniors, they’re gonna get the Sommers treatment in all likelihood and get a $10-50K bonus. That’s something I don’t quite understand that well.

Nolan Gorman is hitting .217/.343/.384 since May 1. That’s still very slightly above average and fine for a player of his age and experience, but probably should be enough to pump the brakes on a promotion to Palm Beach for the time being.

Hicks is feeling it and the Marlins are biting on the slider…0-2 quickly. After a couple more pitches, Prado swings at the high heat and we’re done! 4-1 Cards!

6585 fans, most of whom will go home happy since more are Cards fans than Marlins fans, can now exit the building.

Two down on a grounder and a K after a leadoff single. Ramirez was not happy after going down on a wicked slider.

Well, Hicks is coming in. Let’s have a 1-2-3 and get out of here with a win.

This ump seems to want to get out of here. The zone has been expanding the last inning or two.

Of course, as I say that he has now struggled to put away two straight hitters. But he gets the K and is still at 75 pitches.

Wacha has been solid and the double plays have helped. It would be nice to get 8 innings from him, if at all possible.

If the Cards didn’t have bad luck, they’d have none at all…Bader’s high fly lands about 6″ foul or Wong would have scored.

Stan also only had to face a handful of pitchers with stuff the equal to the average pitcher today. It’s a lot easier to avoid Ks against 85 than 95+ with movement and specialized relief pitching.

No way Thompson is ranked above Carlson, at least here. Gorman started at 4th last year, albeit against a stronger system. Roberts started 9th, and Baker 14th last year remember that Roberts was a competitive balance pick).

If I’m guessing, Thompson slots 4th or 5th behind Gorman, Carlson, Knizner and maybe Montero (I’d have him 5th but I could see Montero dropping). Fletcher probably in the 10-15th spot and Locey somewhere around 30-35th. That would be somewhat similar to last year while accepting that the system is quite a bit weaker than a year ago.

I would like to see CMart back in the rotation. It does no good to build a stout bullpen if we can never give them a lead because the starters and offense aren’t doing their jobs.

Same. Before the season, I was very worried that the rotation would crush the chances of a run. My assumption before 2019 was that it would be something like Mikolas-CMart-Flaherty-Wacha-Reyes by this point, which could have been a plus setup. Then Cmart was hurt, Reyes couldn’t get it together and the other three have all regressed. We have been left with Waino holding onto whatever he has left and Hudson pitching about like expected. Even in AAA, Gomber has been hurt, Ponce has not been that good, and besides Woodford, no one has looked like they are ready to step up anytime soon.

I think the DeWitt’s really do want to win but they are business people first as as long as business is good I wouldn’t anticipate any major shake ups.

Mike Ilitch they most certainly are not. You’d think Dewitt would get some urgency to see a real winner again before he passes on, but it never seems to happen.

Personally, I think the 2013-15 teams with their crazy RISP, starter ERA, etc every year thing made Dewitt think that they could compete that way every season. My suspicion is that the Front Office was keen on a rebuild around 2016 but Dewitt nixed it to keep butts in the seats by the appearance of contention every year. Factually, it may be that the tank and build model is the only way to go forward in the days of 30+ free agents being almost universally busts. Especially since (I know this will bother you, but it’s true) St Louis is a mid market team at best.

Well I like the word “passive” because it defines the ’19 Cards accurately and this has been going on for the past few seasons.

The team has most certainly been passive, so I’ll concede that point. Yet it’s not as though the front office has been sitting on their hands the last few years. Most pundits agreed that they made one of the bigger splashes this past offseason with the Miller and Goldy moves, for instance. The entire starting outfield and much of the pitching staff have been retooled in the last two years through a series of trades, promotions and signings.

Maybe it’s time to blame the supposedly great players for a change? I’ll go on record and say that I think Mo should be fired if the team misses the playoffs this year (and I’ve got an October vacation planned far away from any games so that should tell you what I think of the Cards’ chances) but your steady drum beat against Mo and Girsch the last few years has been misdirected, IMO.

Like the author (who I had to go look up since you didn’t provide a documenting link), I think the talent is available to make a run, but I also believe it’s 100% mental. They’re playing tight and scared, and jettisoning the front office mid season (which is almost never done) is not going to change that.

Theo Epstein owns Moz and it’s not even close. Each move the cubs make is way bigger and works. The cards front office pathetic.

Serious question…have you made any positive post at all since you showed up? It seems you might be better off taking some time off from watching baseball for a while.

There’s Schwarber with the stinging single to drive in a run that wouldn’t have scored without two bad plays.

Carp with an error and then Cmart throws one almost into the dugout. The Cubs are moving runners on Cardinal mistakes.

I saw him in his first game and said the same thing, but Andrew Knizner looks pretty good behind the plate. He gets to pitches in the dirt, looks good framing to my eye, and threw out Cargo. Now if the bat shows up doesn’t go Carson Kelly…

No runs after a golden opportunity. This is the Cardinal Way now, I guess.

If it wasn’t Goldy, I’d say he should have run Contreras over. Teach those Cubs a lesson.

A little something going for the Cards in the 6th. Welp, was something. Rizzo throws Goldy out at home. Still two on and one out.

I got home just in time to see Waino cough up the 2nd run. I see he let a second one score and Gallegos is in.
