Grilled sirloin and potatoes for me. ‘Murica.

I’ll second the hope that the Cubs lose every game the rest of the month and have to close Wrigley because the fans revolt and picket the stadium in anger. Then the Cards suddenly heat up and follow the Blues to another parade in St Louis this October. Well, at least that’s how my dream goes anyway.

I still think Arozarena was the right call, as counting stats still mean something when all is said and done. If WAR for minor leaguers was a thing, I’m fairly sure he would have had a higher one than Nogowski in June.

The Fagalde snub wasn’t really defensible from any position. There ought to be an inquiry. Don’t be surprised if this puts a permanent chip on Alexander the Great’s shoulder that propels him to future MLB stardom.

Palm Beach has scored 2 runs total in their last 5 outings. It’s hard to win many games that way.

Edman has a very Eckstein-like feel to him…takes good at bats, plays solid, fundamental baseball and just produces. I hope they continue to find spots for him to play.

Wow, that’s nuts. The DSL Rays2 scored 20 in another game and barely broke the halfway mark of what the Yankees did. Lol.

stlcard25, I’ve been invited to the Dominican, but had hoped to resurrect my college Spanish first. Reading is ok, but listening and speaking is a challenge. At this point, I think I just need to wing it.

That would be a pretty cool experience, since in certain years some of the more intriguing prospects are the DSL guys.

BHC, I’ve got nothing to base this on so it’s just a question but is it possible that Tatis Sr’s time in St Louis made his connection to the team more of a negative than a positive?

Gorman’s stats may not look great, but it does add up to a 99 wRC+, basically average for the league as the youngest player there. That’s very solid and a similar track to Dylan Carlson, although Gorman had a higher peak with his rookie league start.

This is typical MO, signing that many to see if throwing crap against the wall maybe he will get lucky ….

Personally I will take quality over quantity ANYtime.

You forgot to write “STUPID” in all caps in your post. It’s kind of your hallmark. Are we sure this isn’t an onyxgem imposter?

Also, can’t it be quality and quantity? I’m sure the Cards are higher than random prospect raters on many of the guys that they signed.

Some day perhaps one of Brian’s trips will take him to the Dominican for some hard hitting prospect coverage that we can trust. That would be interesting!

Well, not a great loss there. Munoz and Jmart did well and the lineup did hit better than they have been, but it was for naught as the predictably poor Flaherty and surprisingly poor Gallegos couldn’t hold it. The easy stretch of the schedule is waning and the team is barely treading water. I’m not sure what more can be done to motivate this team right now.

Three hits for the Birds so far, including the Jmart homer. They have just the one run thanks to two double plays. Hopefully they can break through a few times more as Flaherty hasn’t been sharp yet.

Jager, I think the people are just not set on this team being a contender with the addition of one good player and a guy who may be no better than what we have. Hence why some say selling is the way to go, and others are thinking we’d be better off betting on what we have. Matt Carpenter has averaged 4.1 fWAR per year as a full time player. Goldy has averaged 5.1. For all it would cost to acquire Merrifield, he’s only had one season over 3 fWAR. He’s also likely to decline soon.

Is it worth the cost to upgrade? Maybe if the Cards were 15 games over .500 and in a heated pennant race. Right now, neither of those is really the case and we all know it.

Yeah, I read that they were interested in Dominguez, too. Hard to overcome the lifelong fandom when the money is about the same.

BHC, it’s probably not a secret that scouting internationally is well behind the curve of domestic scouting. A question for you (or anyone else I guess)…how far behind is it? You think it’s similar to US scouting 10 years ago in terms of resources and eyes on these guys? 20? 50 years ago?

It does seem like more slip through the cracks internationally than in the US to sign for small bonuses, and a more of the top international prospects don’t pan out than the US guys. Or at least that’s my perception.

I would be fairly surprised if the Cards are quiet this J2 period, since they’re actually allowed to spend their money now. Of course, maybe they don’t think much of the players available but that would also be a surprise.

A critique/suggestion for these reports, if I may. First, I very much enjoy reading any info I can on our future Cardinals. State College is the only team even within a reasonable drive for me, so I depend on here to be my “eyes and ears,” so to speak, of the games.

So, for the suggestion…it would be nice to catch a few more details of the players in these reports if the reporters are at the games. Obviously they may not be in every case, but if so, I believe there is a way to include some of the more juicy tidbits for us. I remember last year there were a few mentions of exit velocity for guys at Palm Beach or GCL. Derek regularly mentions pitch speeds without overloading the story with numbers. I don’t know if every park has a radar gun but details like “hitters really had a hard time squaring up Roberts’ slider” or “Justo pitched high in the zone to really tie up hitters” would really enrich these reports.

Anyway, just my two cents for the writers, if you are looking for it at all.

Looking at the numbers, I would have went with Arozarena over Nogowski and certainly over Ravelo (who was really a part time player with the callup). The OPS difference is not much and Arozarena hit a very robust .374, had more at bats, extra base hits, homers, total bases, runs, walks and steals while getting a promotion. I know it’s not necessarily a “best month by a prospect” award, but Randy gets the edge in my book.

That’s some very sad news. Sometimes it really hits you when you’re grouching about the way your team is playing that at the end of the day, these guys are humans too and that they are just as fallible as the rest of us. Im praying for his wife and family in this time.

Goldy was also supposed to be good at 30+, as was Fowler. This team has enough aging talent it’s depending on. There’s no need to add another. It’s time to go young.

If the team is going to go for it, it would far better to double down on pitching and bet on Goldy and Marp OPSing .900 the rest of the year rather than hamstring the future by trading elite talent like Reyes and Montero at low prices for a 30+ player. That’s my objection. Do you think Merrifield is going to be a star still at 34?

Whit Merrifield is my prime target and should be. He has a small wart that he isnt the youngest player out there, but he hits and does everything we are lacking and need in a leadoff hitter. HE is worth the prospect fallout

That is a huge wart in today’s game. He will be 31 before next season opens and that’s just an illogical chance for an organization like the Cards to take. It’s nice that he’s built value for the Royals but I want no part in emptying the farm for someone who will almost assuredly be in decline within a year or two.

Bottom line…he’s the kind of player you sign as a free agent flyer at 34 or 35 with the hopes he catches lightning in a bottle on a 1/2 year low $$ deal. If Mo trades three major league talents for him he should immediately be fired. He won’t do so because Dewitt won’t go for it.

It is a nice start for Arozarena this time with Memphis, but still just 18 games. He’s had hot streaks before, only to go ice cold, but if he can keep this up, then yes, he vaults ahead of a number of others. As noted, he is one of the limited number of the players at the upper levels whose stock is rising.`

Hadn’t that been the general trend for Randy though? He seems to struggle at every level he rises, then get traction and take off. That was my prediction before the year and it seems to be on. He could regress of course but maybe he’s close to reaching the majors and playing some role.

If we are truly going to rebuild, there’s no reason at all to keep Gant or even Brebbia. May as well cash in the chips while they’re the most valuable.

Randy Arozarena is hitting .370 for Memphis after a solid start at Springfield. He seems to finally be getting the traction that everyone hoped for when he signed for a big bonus a few years back.

Now it’s Myers. The first pitch gets right by him in a flash. 0-1. Now a slider off the plate for 1-1. Another one goes wide for 2-1. Let’s finish this off now, shall we? A fastball catches the plate to make it 2-2. Cards fans are on their feet and the ump won’t call the last strike! The 3-2 is fouled off. Now a grounder to Wong and he throws him out. 5-3 Cards. Whew!!
