Davies now at 50 pitches with Edman at the plate. Gotta keep the pressure on, Cards.
Wong got a couple of decent pitches to start his PA. May regret that.
Nope!! Wong bomb!! 4-0 Cardinals!!
Bader up the middle and Carp scores. Harrison ends up at 2nd.
Carp with the leadoff double into the RF corner. Nice hitting, Carp.
Double play!! Out of the first.
Waino being a little shy with Tatis to start the at bat. There’s Uncle Charlie to go 2-1. Waino hitting 93, as high as I’ve seen him all season. Tatis hits one through the left side for a 1 out single.
Goldy with the web gem for the first out!
Dejong grounds out but 30 pitches for Davies in that inning.
Yadi pokes one to right!! 1-0 Cards!
Carlson walks. Good eye there by the youngster. Now for Yadi…can he drive one in??
Cards making Davies work a bit here in the first. Over 20 pitches now. Edman in scoring position.
The ESPN guys are saying this guy has one of the bigger strike zones in the league. Hmmm
Edman singles up the middle. Repeat of yesterday? I wouldn’t mind…
Wong leads us off with a groundout.
Rats, the ALCS will be at Petco Park.
Euro, here’s an article on a big fly by Mark McGwire in the 98 season that talks about estimating home run distances.

I suppose if you had a lot of wind blowing out and it was hot and humid and a guy who was incredibly strong made great contact maybe you would get something over 520 feet. So far that hasn’t happened in the Statcast era though.
Not a good series for Cincinnati with the bats. The pitching was mostly good except Raisel Iglesias, who’s struggled at times this season.
SD Lineup
T Grisham (L) CF
F Tatis Jr. (R) SS
M Machado (R) 3B
E Hosmer (L) 1B
T Pham (R) LF
M Moreland (L) DH
W Myers (R) RF
A Nola (R) C
J Cronenworth (L) 2BOzuna was actually pretty decent in the playoffs for us last year, IIRC.
Forecast of Cub fans’ tears, amiright??
I can’t imagine a scenario where he would be out until spring training unless it was so severe that he had to have surgery. Looks like recovery time is around a month for minor strains and up to four months for major ones.
I would think that no matter what your political affiliation, given that we are on a site that’s mostly about the minor league teams and players, we’d be relatively on the same side about this issue.
I really kinda liked the early start, but later isn’t too bad. Would let me get out for a walk prior to the game. Hopefully Waino can give the bullpen a little rest tonight. Those Padres were hitting the ball hard yesterday and the Cards went 4-15 with RISP. Davies and Waino might be the slowest throwing combo of starters we’ve seen in the playoffs in a while. Hopefully our guys don’t get “Hendricks’d” tonight.
It isn’t like any of these guys are wearing out the opposite field.
Right. Which is why it’s not surprising that they will be getting smaller deals this winter and are platoon candidates. We’d be picking up Pederson or resigning Miller for one reason…to crack dingers and hit right handed pitching. Pillar is probably a little better rounded but I also think he may get a longer deal thanks to his previous defensive mastery.
I would imagine that tomorrow’s lineup will include Matt Carpenter, who has a lifetime 1.567 OPS against Davies. But you may also want to try to get Miller’s bat in the lineup after a few days off. Bader picked a really bad time for an off day. My suspicion is that Carlson slides to CF, Edman in LF and Carp at 3B with Miller at DH. If it’s close late maybe you bring Edman in to 3rd, take your pick at DH and have O’Neill-Bader-Carlson in the OF. If Miller doesn’t play, I think you’ll see O’Neill get the start in LF.
