Now Tim Brown writes that the Marlins should NOT trade Stanton.

Reds hang on – barely – to beat the Cubs 2-1. Jay and Avila strikeout with runners at the corners and one out to end it.

Redbirds got a break last night as the Reds hang on to beat the Cubs 2-1. A 2-0 Reds lead heading to the 9th, the Cubs plate a run with 1st and 3rd and one out. But Jay and Avila strikeout to end it. Redbirds stay 1.5 games behind.

Just thought I would throw this out there. I know Molina has gotten a lot of big hits over the years for the Redbirds, but……how many times has he killed rallies by hitting into a doubleplay? I was yelling at the TV during the game last night to bunt when he came up and boom, triple play.

And Stanton crushed another long homerun tonight. #44 on the year. Six games in a row.

He’ll look good in a Cardinal uniform.

I just read this article on Yahoo! What are you waiting for Moz and Girsch, go get him! Weaver, Grichuk, Piscotty, Sierra, whoever, just go and get him – NOW!

The only untouchable, in my mind, is Alex Reyes.

The Cubs have the Reds at Wrigley for four games this week. Then they have Toronto at Wrigley for three games. They may very well sweep the Reds. And when you consider how bad the Reds are and with our tough week this week, who knows, we might be five games out after next Sunday. This is a key – CRITICAL – week for the Redbirds.

Redbirds had a chance in the 8th. Bases loaded and one out but Garcia gets caught looking and Molina pinch-hits and grounds to 3rd.

6-3 Atlanta the final. Winning streak stopped at eight. Cubs a 2-1 lead in the 7th at Arizona. Stanton another dinger today.

And now a tough six game road trip coming up with two in Boston and four in Pittsburgh.

What exactly did Carpenter do in the 9th that almost screwed things up?

On a side note……is Giancarlo Stanton going to hit a homerun in every game the rest of the way? Is that guy on fire or what?

Seriously folks, what are we going to do with Cecil? Its obvious he is only a mopup pitcher at this point so what happens to him?

I assume our lefties from about the 6th inning on now are Duke and Lyons. I expect Cecil will be a mopup guy only from here on out.

Oh, and by the way, the Redbirds won their 7th straight by the score of 8-5. A big two out two run double by DeJong in the 8th made everyone breathe a little easier. He fought off an inside pitch and hit a soft liner over the 1stbaseman’s head, he didn’t exactly smash it.

I mean seriously, what is the reason Cecil isn’t in Memphis? Is there some kind of contractual reason he’s never been sent down? There is no way you even let him in a game unless the Cardinals are either ahead 10-1 in the 9th or behind 10-1 in the 9th.

That WORTHLESS Cecil comes in and gives up hits and a homerun. He allows four runs and now all of a sudden its a 6-5 game in the 6th.

WHY IS CECIL EVEN ON THE TEAM????

    WHY ISNT HE IN MEMPHIS?????

If I know DJ like I think I know DJ (Derek Jeter) he will want to move payroll. And that means we could see Stanton in St. Louis by the end of this month.

Will Matt Adams be in the lineup for the Braves? Assume he will get a nice ovation when he strolls to the plate the first time. Most should remember his homerun off of Kershaw in the 2014 playoffs.

Anxious to see the lineup for tonights game. I do agree with BikeMike’s assessment that DeJong needs to be moved out of the #3 slot. Seems like the league has caught up to him at this point, he seems to keep swinging and missing at low pitches, especially the breaking ones. Hope he doesn’t turn out to be another Grichuk.

For those that missed it…..bases loaded, two outs, Cards down 5-4. A cat runs onto the field and the grounds crew guy grabs it out by the centerfield wall. He gets scratched/clawed a little bit. Next pitch Molina hits a grand slam.

    Rally Cat………

Cubs lose in San Francisco again today, final was 3-1 Giants. Redbirds can get it back to 1.5 games with a win tonight.

Hard to believe that the Redbirds are only 2.5 games out of 1st place. As bad as they have been so far this year. The Cubs continue to be an enigma, having lost again last night, this time to the Giants in San Francisco 6-3. I keep thinking the Cubs are going to get hot and go on a roll and they almost did after the All Star Break. But they are 3-5 in their last 8 games now.

The main reason the Royals got three runs in the 4th was because the 1st base umpire ruled a check swing a ball on a 3-2 pitch with two outs. Molina started to walk off. The next batter then doubles in three runs. Had the ump made the right call – which I believe he went and would have been strike three – the Royals wouldn’t have scored that inning.

Piscotty to Memphis? Should have been done awhile back. Maybe this will send a message to some of the others that aren’t performing.

By the way, how is Diaz doing at Memphis? Last I heard about a month ago he was doing lousy, only hitting about .217.

And Wainwright is up to his bad self to start. Singles by Hamilton and Cozart and then a three run homer by Votto. 3-0 Reds in the 1st, they are still batting, nobody out.
