I think we are going to regret this one. Tim McCarver even said he expects Siegrist to do well.

And Hundley ends it with a homerun in the last of the 10th against Sheriff. 2-1 Giants the final.

I beg to differ about Oh. Lyons gave up the leadoff hit to Pence and the ball that Posey hit was a really good slider, low and outside. Posey just stuck his bat out and got a soft liner into right. Cant blame this one on Oh.

Assume Piscotty will be in the lineup today after his big night last night. Would be nice to get him going the last month. We can always pray for a miracle.

And remember, in 1964 and 2011 people had already stopped praying for that miracle the outlook was so bleak. Look what happened.

Yeah BW, I think Piscotty, Carpenter, Fowler, Oh, Cecil, Diaz, Grichuk, and whoever else will rebound and do better in 2018. With a big bat in the lineup and a late inning reliever I can see the Cardinals winning 90+ games in 2018. Especially if Alex Reyes returns.

Sometimes when I read these posts I am sooooo glad some of you posters are NOT running the Cardinals. Surely some of these posts are just people dreaming???

Yes, I agree, i’d like Ozzie Smith at SS, Don Mattingly at 1B, Hank Aaron in RF, and Ryne Sandberg at 2B. It would be nice to deal Carp/Grichuk/Piscotty for Willie Mays too.

The majority of what you see on the field now is what the 2018 Cardinals will look like. The only thing that’s needed is a power bat and a late inning relief guy. Most of the rest is going to stay the same. We are just 1, maybe 2, players away from being right there.

What can anyone tell me about Flaherty? What kind of stuff does he have? Hard thrower? Or a Maddux/Glavine type? What can I expect to see?

Hurricane Harvey sent us some rain up here in SW Indiana so I wont be going to any high school football game tonight. I’ll be watching my Friday night Barnaby Jones episode about 9:30 and then once its over i’ll flip it over to catch Flaherty’s debut.

Molina is our worst hitting regular? I thought he was around .280? Arent Grichuk, Fowler, Carpenter, etc, all down around .240?

    Carioca,
I agree with your line of thinking. However, I tend to agree he is better off as a sub and that we need to find a better everyday 3rdbaseman. After all, Giancarlo Gyorko is a career .244 hitter. That’s .244.

I wonder if getting Flaherty his first start on the road, in a pitchers ballpark, away from the scrutiny he might receive at Busch, and against a team that isn’t very good, is all part of the plan? If so I would assume PuggsleyAdams would concur.

I agree Brianpnoonan, we now have $$$ for Stanton.

And does anybody have any idea if Alex Reyes will be ready for the rotation at the start of 2018? Or will he be a bullpen guy?

Is Martinez ever going to live up to his hype/billing???

In my mind 2018 will be a pivotal year for him. Not sure what his contract status is but if its another sub-par year for him in 2018, well, why would we stick with him???

Wouldn’t this have been a good time to bring Diaz back to play SS and shift DeJong over to 3rd? Hasn’t he played 3rd at times in his career? And isn’t Diaz doing fairly well recently down in Memphis?

Holliday was a very solid, reliable bat? Well, maybe a few years ago, but the last couple of years he has hit in the .240s and now the .220s. We have enough reliable bats like that already.

A homerun by Grichuk has brought the Cards back to a 4-3 deficit with nobody out. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope. Doesn’t appear to be much hope for the bullpen.

Another HUGE doubleplay hit into by Molina. He’s done that a million times over the years, killing rallies with DP balls. I was yelling at the screen for him to bunt – BUNT! – but he doesn’t and then proceeds to hit into the twin killing. The last time I was yelling at him to BUNT he hit into a triple play.

And then sloppy fundamentals in the top of the 9th by the Cardinals for the 100th time the last couple of years.

This team is hard to stomach at times. But at least Cincinnati rallied for three runs off of Strop in the last of the 8th and beat the Cubs 4-2.

Brian, I agree. We need a BIG bat in the lineup. That’s why I keep hoping Stanton can be dealt for. Not sure Hosmer would be that big bat but he would be an upgrade.

I don’t think the 2018 Cardinals are too far away. I can see the bullpen doing a lot better next year as most of them have had off years this year. In my mind we are one big bat and one late inning relief ace away from contending next year. Of course, do we anticipate the Cubs in 2018 to under-achieve like they have so far in 2017?

I guess some feel that you can just hand the ball in the 9th inning to some pitchers and that makes them a closer.

Did somebody mention Cecil as the closer?????

No, the up and in to Weaver was after Fowler scored on the WP so there was only two on. I doubt Chacin was doing it on purpose but jeepers, after your team gets plunked four times you need to send a message.

And I see now where Weaver hit Spangenberg…….

    As Hawk Harrelson would say…..”C’MON!!!”
