Any way to determine if a certain manager or managers had more pitchers with TJ surgery? Dusty Baker comes to mind as someone that always had the rep of over-using young arms – such as Mark Prior.
Cubs lose to Milwaukee 3-1. Now the Cubs will play the loser of the Rockies/Dodgers game for the Wild Card tomorrow night in Wrigley. The winner of that game goes to Milwaukee for a best of five.
And the winner of the Rockies/Dodgers game will play the Braves.
The Cards forced the Cubs to play Game 163 by losing? I see it differently. Had the Cards won on Sunday, the Brewers would be division champs and the Cubs forced to play the Wild Card game.
As it is, the Cubs play 163 at home on Monday and worst case, they are the Wild Card, but they could still win the division.
They forced the Cubs to play Game #163 because they won on SATURDAY! Had they lost on Saturday as well and got swept they would have let the Cubs off the hook. That’s what I was referring to. And yes, it would have been nice if they could have knocked off the Cubs and gave the Brewers the crown.
especially one that already has Ozuna, Bader, and O’Neill. Those are the no-doubt outfield starters, in a rational world.
You think O’Neill is a starter????
ALL HE DOES IS STRIKEOUT!!!!!!
No way in this world should O’Neill be a starter, and probably not even on the team as much as he strikesout. If he doesn’t do something about that this winter I don’t know what we will do with him.
If Pena, JMart,Cecil, GGarcia, Fowler, Waino, Norris, Carp, and Gyorko are back in 2019 I will be very angry fan.
I pretty much agree with this. Keep Norris maybe for a middle reliever. Waino maybe if they feel he can still pitch a little. Get rid of that goof Jose Martinez and his horrendous defense. Get rid of the .240/.250 hitter Carpenter and his horrendous defense. Cecil, duh. GGarcia and Gyorko just don’t give you much. Munoz can also go as his defense is pitiful as well. Fowler, eat his contract if we have to.
With all the young arms we have we need just one free agent signing for a bat and we are good to go in 2019. And nobody better think O’Neill is the answer for a big bat. Jeepers, all he does is strikeout. Over 40% of the time people.
And now Arenado passes Carpenter – and Yelich – with his 37th dinger of the year. This past week has made for a sour ending to 2018 for St. Louis.
Well, at least we forced the Cubs to have to play Game #163. That’s better than a sweep.
Nationals pounding the Rockies 9-2 in the 8th. Looks like Game #162 is going to be quite meaningful for the Rockies, Dodgers, Cubs, and Brewers. But not the Redbirds, shux.
Yelich with two more dingers tonight. He’s now tied with Carpenter at 36 dongs.
Four straight two out hits by the Dodgers in the top of the 9th and they take a 9-5 lead on San Francisco.
Machado, the St. Louis SS in 2019, just tripled to RF with two outs to knock in the go ahead run. 6-5 Dodgers in the top of the 8th.
About time for Auld Lang Syne……..
Once again, in a big game, Kershaw doesn’t get the job done.
In the Cubs 1st, with two outs, Munoz cant catch a little pop fly into short right that a good high school player could have caught. It bounces away and Zobrist comes all the way around from 1st to score. 1-0 Cubs early.
Munoz is about like Carpenter and Bozo. He is a HUGE liability in the field. He’s proved that too many times this year. He’s another one that needs to go back to the AL and be a DH. Add him to the list of people I don’t want in St. Louis next year.
Well, we are on the brink of elimination. HAVE to win these next two and the Dodgers HAVE to lose the next two. But, no reason to not keep trying. Dodgers down the Giants 3-1 last night. LA turned five doubleplays to help their cause.
I’ll be tuned in with my chili, cheeseburger, cherry delight, Mt. Dew, and then a big cigar. Hoping for the best here.
That worthless Carpenter lofts a short flyball to left that Bryant hauls in and the runners stay at 2nd and 3rd. Then Bozo flies to RF and the Cards fail to score.
Carpenter is now down in the .250s and as far as I am concerned needs to hit the road. He gets hot a couple of times a year and all of a sudden people think he’s great. But he’s hit in the .240s last year and now the .250s this year. Enough said.
Yes, I know his OBEP is .772 and he has a GWOR 2.34 and a MEPAP of 1.25.
Why is Gyorko hitting 5th? Why is he even playing? He doesn’t give you hardly anything at all.
And yes, I know, he has a .764 OPBYN and a 1.252 WATR and a 2.34 BIPPA so he’s so valuable.
As far as I am concerned he’s about like Tyler Greene was.
By the way, Tommy Pham is hitting .346 for Tampa Bay heading into today’s game with the Yankees.
Here it is on Thursday and the Rockies have already opened up a 3-1 lead on the Phillies.
Do I assume, if the Rockies win the NL West and the Cards and Dodgers tie, that there is a one game playoff in St. Louis on Monday to determine which team would face the Brewers (or Cubs) in the Wild Card game?
I’d say this is pretty much a do or die win. If we lose this one – and I expect us to lose – we may as well pack it in for 2018.
As I’ve said many times, the Cubs just LOVE to put the screws to the Cardinals. And the Cubs know if they beat on us this weekend it will keep us out of the playoffs. We will lose at least two, if not all three games at Wrigley this weekend.
Gyorko just really doesn’t give you that much. Period.
eriously….my wife catches that easy fly that Jose just botched! Simply out, JOSE MARTINEZ CAN NEVER EVER BE ALLOWED TO SLAP ON THE LEATHER FOR THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS EVER AGAIN!!!! You have to relegate his duties to solely pinch hitting the rest of the week or you make this organization look like total and unequivocal idiots!!
Totally agree Pugs. Him and Carpenter are just HUGE defensive liabilities. Its one thing to be not very good on defense but these two are PITIFUL!
Here’s my list of Cardinals I wouldn’t mind to see gone after this year.
Since the tiebreaker is in St. Louis I would assume that’s because the Cardinals won the season series against the Rockies, correct? Or was it just the luck of the draw?
I was hoping O’Neill would be in the lineup after his heroics yesterday.
You mean the guy that is striking out over 40% of the time???
Why on earth would you want him in the lineup????????
I wouldn’t even want him on the team, period.

In light of his streakiness and the fact that when he is bad he is really bad, does anybody believe this off-season is the time to trade Carpenter and see if we cant get something good in return?
He’s been just about pitiful the last three weeks.
Is Carpenter ever going to do anything the rest of the year. He’s not done much the last three weeks and as a result isn’t even really in MVP contention anymore. He needs to go on one of his hot streaks the last 11 games and shoulder the load.
