Ok, here we are, spring training has started. Any word on Reyes? Does he seem to be in good health? Does he look good with his early throwing? Is he being considered as a starter or reliever at this point?

Isnt it about time for Alex Reyes to have some sort of small issue? Then somehow it turns into surgery and he misses six months.

I am just waiting for that to happen…….

All of this stupid crap is going to turn our beloved pastime into another WWF Raw.

    Geez people, lets get real.

    Bob,
You don’t think Edman will be all that good this year. But who else do we have? Seems like we have nothing but unproven players in O’Neil, Thomas, and Carlson. At least Edman made a big splash last year and deserves a chance.

    Dear Lord in Heaven,
Who is the absolute idiot at MLB headquarters that is coming up with all this ridiculous crazy stuff that could ruin the game? First putting a runner on at 2nd in the 11th inning was talked about. Then a pitcher pitching to three batters is here. And now this crazy idea.

Is it Manfred that is the buffoon here?

Why wouldn’t Edman be a starter somewhere? Say in LF? That seems to be the logical place for him even if he hasn’t ever played LF.

I don’t agree with those that think he is a super-sub.

Pujols only had 99 rbi’s in 2011. And he hit .299. If he would have homered in his last atbat in Houston on the last day of the season he would have ended up with 100 rbi’s and a .300 average.

Anyway, bccran, I share your concern. But I really believe Tommy Edman is going to be the #3 hitter. He might end up being like Tommy Herr.

    Fowler
    Wong
    Edman
    Goldstein
    DeJong
    Molina
    Carpenter
    Bader

Right now Edman is our #3 hitter. Who knows, he might thrive hitting in front of Goldstein. He did quite well last year. Maybe he can avoid the sophomore jinx.

Now now bccran, surely you know batting average doesn’t mean anything anymore. Whats important are the fWORs and the BAKITs and the WRc and the GPRs, etc, etc.

It reminds me how a guy on here a few years ago tried to tell me how valuable Tyler Greene was. I guess I kept forgetting that a .221 career average guy did hit a double in a game once.

Yeah, no kidding people. The WHOLE team strikes out too much. Surely they worked on that during the off-season instead of worrying about launch angles and stupid crap like that.

Oh great, that’s just great. Striking out all the time is his #1 weakness and he didn’t focus on fixing that problem?????

Sometimes I wonder if the game of baseball isn’t going down the terlet.

I didn’t read the article but I would hope he focused this off-season on doing the things necessary to keep from striking out so much?

Well, its been about a month now. And we are about ten days away from pitchers and catchers reporting. So, two questions this time.

    1) Any news on Alex Reyes?

    2) Any news on Carlos Martinez? Has he recovered from surgery?

I watched the show late last night. It wasn’t quite what I thought it was going to be about. I thought they were going to discuss whether the 1980s St. Louis teams would be successful in today’s game of homeruns and strikeouts. Instead it just seemed to be mostly highlights of 1982, 1985, and 1987.

The only way the Cards win the NL Central this year is with rebound years from their key players. Carpenter, Fowler, Goldschmidt, DeJong. And yes, I know they all had good fWiR and BADIT and sRzR numbers and they all hit some homers and had some rbi’s. But they’ve got to get those batting averages up. These .230s, .240s, and .260 just aint going to cut it.

I still enjoying playing those Cardinal teams of the 1980s in Strat-O-Matic. All that speed and defense. Those 1-17 rated runners (the highest you can get). All of those AAA, AA, and A rated base stealers. McGee’s big 1985. Tudor in 1985. Van Slyke’s defense in RF – he was a 1 e1 (-3). Clark’s big 1987 until he got hurt.

    Quite entertaining!

Winker, Ervin, Jankowski, Schebler, these are the duds the Reds better be getting rid of and not Senzel. Senzel is a gamer and could be good for a long time.

I would suspect that with everything the Reds have done this off-season that there will finally – FINALLY – be some people that go to their games at GABP. Usually the place is about empty.

I’ve always said if the Cardinals cant win it I would like to see the Reds win it. At least they might have a halfway decent atmosphere for home games this year.

I expect this to just about be the everyday lineup coming out of spring training.

    LF – O’Neill
    CF – Fowler
    RF – Edman
    3B – Carpenter
    SS – DeJong
    2B – Wong
    1B – Goldschmidt
    C – Molina

There are, however, a lot of things that can impact this. Such as:
    1) Will Bader hit?
    2) O’Neill’s strikeouts
    3) Can Carpenter rebound?
    4) Will Fowler hit?

I’d hate to have heard the howling on this board if it were up and running when the Cardinals traded Reggie Smith to the Dodgers for Joe Ferguson.

That one still boggles my mind today.

    Hey Pugs?

I think during the high school baseball season this spring I am going to get me a lawn chair, bring my binoculars, a hammer, and a metal trash can and sit out just behind the CF fence and start banging away. Once, sometimes twice.

I wonder what everybody will think about that?
