Leone on in a mop up role. I love the guy, but that is kind of where he belongs. He has had a few nice games though this year. Last year, next to Dexter and Holland, Leone would have been last on my Christmas card list.

No problemo, CardsFanInChiTown. I think we just may not only take these guys 3 straight…..but do so in grandiose style to the tune of double digit victories in all 3 games. There has never been 3 consecutive COD (that’s “Call Off the Dogs” to the layman) games in a series…..but that could change this weekend…..oh boy that could change.

I hereby issue an official request to the skipper of our St. Louis Cardinals to PLEASE show some compassion for our opponents and call off your dogs!! No team should ever endure this kind of a royal arse kicking( except to the cubbies)….enough is enough, Mr. Shildt!

And ladies and gentlemen we are there……a Goldy 3 run shot to center makes it a COD…..10-0!!!

We are inching oh so close to “Calling Off the Dogs” territory …..and in this case it’s a beautiful thing.

    Tonight’s Cardinal Nation Trivia question:

What poster once said “No Moose is good Moose”?

Sweet! The Crew hit into a bit of an unorthodox twin killing, just as our Birds did in the 1st. Moving to the bottom of the 3rd

Marcell….looks like he’s chomping at the bit in anticipation of some Houser offerings….lets see how he fares. Well, we’ll have to wait until his next at bat as he gets a free pass here to open the Cardinal 2nd. DeJong ….20 hits and 5 dingers vs the Crew here in 2010…..well he will not add to that total just yet as he goes down on strikes. Yadi grounds it in the hole in between short and 3rd, but Arcia gobbles it up and gets the force play at 2nd. Tommy Edman grounds out routinely to 2nd. Still a scoreless affair as we mozy along to the 3rd.

Gamel strikes out to open the Brewer 2nd. And Spangenberg follows suit by going down swinging. Now Wong breaks the wrong way on an Arcia grounder and that defensive hiccup will result in a base hit…..a bit of a gift from the Cardinal 2nd baseman….a rather rare gift from the defensively gifted Kolten Wong. Doogie Houser strikes out to retire the side.

I hear you, Wooster. I see those fish tacos advertised and it pretty much gets me sick to my tum tum. Oh no…..Goldy whiffs and Dexter is hung out to dry between 1st & 2nd….twin killing will put an abrupt and unsatisfactory end to the Redbird 1st.

Fowler coaxes a leadoff walk out of Doogie. Wong gets rung up on a curve…..an extremely animated strike 3 call by the homeplate ump! Who is that guy? He better be just as demonstrative when he rings up a Brewer…..or should I say if he rings up a Brewer? Goldy

Any catfish fiddlers or anchovies on that supreme pizza, Wooster?

Like mommy always said…”a catfish fiddler a day keeps the doctor at bay”. In Rat’s case, he downed 6 of them. You’ll live to 100, Rat!

Waino yields a cheap pop fly single (Grisham)to left to open things up…a play where Marcell did not get a decent jump on the ball. Then Grandal walks and just like that the Birds find themselves looking down the barrel ….sweet!…Moose pops out to Edman in foul territory at 3rd…we needed that. Then Cain pops a foul ball down the right field line that Goldy chases down with the efficiency of a gazelle…2 outs as Grisham advanced to 3rd. Thames strikes out! No harm inflicted as the Birds prepare to get their whacks in vs Doogie Houser.

Nice score with those Amish catfish fiddlers, Rat! I bet Rat had a little fiddler on the roof (of his mouth) as he exited the joint. Back-to-back Amish restaurant visits, Rat? Someone must be sweet on one of those lovely Amish waitresses……good luck trying to get past 1st base there , Rat! That situation would be akin to Hee Sop Choi trying to swipe 2nd base vs Yadi. The best catfish fiddlers I ever had was at this Ma & Pa establishment in southwest Kentucky. The rascals nearly melted in your mouth. I would indulge in some c. fiddlers more often, if the wifey didn’t think they were gross.

And what a maiden post out of our new friend, Skippy McKill! Welcome Skippy……hope that was the first of what will prove to be an endless river of Skippy McKill posts.

    Go Birds!

    7. Alexander “The Great”
    8. Woodford
    9. Nunez
    10. Genesis Cabrera……reminds me of an unbelievably fantastic Genesis tune, that if you’ve never heard it, do yourself a favor and do so now…. “Abacab” by Genesis.

Both the Crew and the cubs in trouble with each having lost their best position player to injury. Who is out best or most valuable position player? Goldy? He better not be. Yadi? A little long in the tooth. Edman? Probably, but he’s been experiencing a rough stretch of late, which sours that coveted distinction. Marcell? Not quite. I don’t believe we presently have one.

4-0 Pads, as the hapless ones are able to only scratch out only a meager 3 hits in defeat. Two viable reactions…..whew, we didn’t lose any ground! Or, wow we could have been up by 6 games. We knock yet another game off our magical number, which now sits at 14. Looking like us vs Atlanta in Round 1. If memory serves me correct, I don’t think that storied franchise has ever upended us in post season play.

Hey Pugs! Had Broccoli beef, low mein, and egg rolls tonight.

What are the odds! That’s exactly what I had, Wooster. Amazing…..if you tell me you washed it down with Pepsi, I’ll faint.

Come on Goldy! Maybe Tyler O’Neill at 1st next year if Goldy can’t produce the way a 1st baseman should?

A Wolters ringing double in the 5th ties things up at 1. Nobody out with Colorado looking to seize command.

Alex who? A year or two ago, upon hearing the name “Alex”, my very first thought would have been “Reyes”. But that has changed. Now, the very first thing that would pop into my mind would be “Trebek” and then “Rodriguez” secondly. I think “Reyes” would probably come in right around #19, right after my next door neighbor’s pool guy, who I recognize as “Alex the pool guy”. It’s certainly not Reyes’ fault. This man can no longer be looked at as a starter. He wouldn’t make it to Cinco De Maya in that capacity. But it’s still possible, though remotely so, that he could survive as a member of the bullpen without breaking down over the course of a season. Good luck Alex…..we’re pulling for you!
