Just about game time. I experienced a most rare predictorial loss last night. It won’t happen again for awhile. Quite simply, no way St. Louis losses this game. I’ll call it 6-3 Birds with Dylan Carlson finding the cheap seats with bat in hand.

I wouldn’t trust Rat with a firearm of any sort, Cardinal in France. He’ll accidentally plug that little pooch of his, trying to shoot like Mannix does, and never forgive you.

Bling got his man. Now Sosa is almost guaranteed to sparkle. Good show, Bling.

Shoot for 300, Rat! You’ve come this far. Besides, I’ll terribly miss your din-din/dessert arrangements if you start eating like a rabbit every day. Winter off seasons are for healthy eating…..not now.

During kinder gentler times, they would have “Ladies Day”s at the ol’ ballparks. They were wonderful. They could gain admission for no charge, or no worse than half price. They would come to the games in droves, beautifully attired with powdered noses and many wearing classy hats. Often they were met at the turnstiles by a smiling ticket taker with red rose in hand. Once inside, fellow patrons would tip their own hats while clearly uttering the words “Good afternoon, Ma’am” as they crossed paths with each other. Even the stadium PA announcer would acknowledge their presence with kind words. I guess as close as we’ll get to those blessed times in this era is tonight’s Cards-Pads game where it’ll be Kim vs Kim in a few at bats.

Peoria’s Chiefs ran their win streak to 4 with an 8-5 victory over Wisconsin. Nate Heredia couldn’t find the plate with a howling pack of hungry bloodhounds in his 2 1/3 innings of labor, as he issued 6 free passes. Reliever Michael Brettell had no similar difficulties, as he struck out 7 with no walks in his 3 innings. Malcom Nunez and Alec Burleson throttled 2 run homers to account for half of the Chiefs tallies.

Our boys didn’t leave their hearts in San Francisco…..they left them in Milwaukee, as they are demonstrating none of it in San Diego these past two evenings. I actually believe the players, and astonishingly, possibly even some of the coaching staff, thought they could just show up and beat San Diego’s B Team. These last two efforts were simply lame. If they get it handed to them again tomorrow, Shildt had better not give these guys a day off until the All Star break. They certainly could use the work.

Oh wow. Just checked on the game and what an unpleasant surprise. Back with the wifey I go. You still have to believe that we’ll come back and win this game. Stay positive gang.

Quite frankly SD does not have a chance in this game. This should be a big game for Carlson. I’m thinking a double and a dong with 3 rbi. I’m calling it 8-3 Birds.

I’m hoping to be riding high in the PBP saddle for the second consecutive evening. Right now I’m meeting some resistance, as the wifey is badgering me to watch some new series named “Cruel Summer” with her. I’d give it about a 50-50 chance.

Good luck with obtaining your new pitching machine, Rat. I would definitely go with the traditional hard balls vs the tennis balls. Your neighbors will learn to live with it….which rekindles an old memory. When I was about 10 we’d play medium pitch hardball games at this small neighborhood park. There was this beautiful dark brown residential fence that was the perfect distance ( not too easy, but not ridiculously difficult either ) for homers. Anyway, for two summers we peppered this home’s roof with home run balls…..and not once did the occupants complain. The fence was too high to adequately see the house and the goings-on, but you could easily hear the loud bangs when one of use really connected, which was between 4-8 times per game. At random times the balls would be flung back onto our field of play. Luckily, none of us were ever plunked. Looking back, I would love knowing who the occupants of that house were. Needless to say they had to have been super nice people.

Pitching an array of 96 mph baseballs with accuracy is right behind hitting these same baseballs with authority, as two of the most difficult things we humans can do, Rat. Since we’re on the topic, how is that new pitching machine of your’s treating you, Rat. Neighbors started boarding up their windows yet?

The Chiefs are on a 3 game winning roll after their 7-6 thrilling comeback triumph over an upstart Ratter squad from Wisconsin. Brady Isaac-Lionel Whalen with a long 6th inning solo blast and then followed that up with a 9th inning 2 run run-off single to win it. Crafty Venezuelan southpaw reliever, Fabian Enrique Blanco, pitched a perfect 9th inning to earn his second victory of the year vs no setbacks.

    Stammen still playing his trade.

Carlson – Hits it high and deep to left- center….Pham and Grisham drift back and it’s Pham laying his leather on the ball just on the edge of the track for the out.

And now we’re getting another pitching change so this will definitely send your’s truly to the clubhouse too. Nighty night gang.

Booyah….the night owl…. welcome Boo….oh no, Machado rips an rbi double so due to the lateness of this game, that hit just may have sent me to the showers. Not that I do not believe we cant come back in this game. Bring us home the W David and Boo.

Wholesale defensive changes here in the Padre 6th. Elledge on to pitch with Edmundo Sosa taking over at short and Edman relieving Carp at 2nd.

Thus far, Mr. Webb had been successful in keeping these spunky Padres off the base paths.,..knock on wood.

Craig Stammen on the hill for SD with Ivan Castillo making his ML debut tonight at 2nd base.

O’Neill – On 3-1 Tyler fists one into right for another leadoff Redbird hit.

Bader – Throttles a hard grounder in between short and 3rd that the diving Kim comes up with, but his throw to 1st is about a half hour late in getting Bader….infield hit.

Moroff – On 0-2 he strikes out on a curve in the dirt.

Edman – Chops it up the middle where Kim simultaneously gloves it while tapping his foot “near” the 2nd base bag and in almost the same motion he fires it to 1st to just nip the speedy Edman to retire the side.

Webb only allows one baserunner in a scoreless Padre 5th. I don’t know what we all would do if we were to actually set these guys down 1-2-3 in an inning? Time to jump all over these guys.

Edman – Slaps it the other way past the SS Kim and out into left for a leadoff hit. This is our inning, gang.

Carlson – 3-2 yet once again….Dylan walks…oh no! They rung him up….they rung his arse up!…that was a terrible pitch! Yep, the replay reveals the truth….he did go around. Does this team NOT want to score this evening? Almost seems like it.

Goldy – 3-2 again…..this has to be a record for 3-2 pitches…. and we’ve only played just over 4 frames…..Goldy walks on one just a titch too high.

Arenado – Hard hit one hop grounder that gobbles Kim up at short as he cannot field it cleanly….sweet…..bases juiced with only one out. Official scorer generously awards Nolan a hit.

Yadi – Lofts a fly down the line in right where O’Grady runs over to catch it and his throw home won’t come close to getting Tommy Edman and Goldy motoring into 3rd safely. We finally sent the scoreboard.

Carp – Hard hit grounder but right at Marcano at 2nd who’ll field it and make the short toss to Cronenworth at 1st to retire the side.

Look at the Cards pen out there….not a one throwing.

And amazingly we are only down 3 with a lot of baseball to play. Can any Cardinal reliever stop the bleeding…..stem the tide….silence these Padre bats….oops, they only have 3 hits thru 4 innings. This is a very winnable game. They need only go out and grab it

Luckily Machado was swinging on 3-0 there…or we’d be in yet another pickle in this game. And that’s been the story all night thus far when it’s the Pads turn to bat…..the Cards find themselves in a perpetual pickle jar….if you will.
