    #6 Herrera
#7 Thompson – I think he figured it out more than Liberatore did last year.

How does Winn profile best in CF if he has never played there?

I haven’t seen anything that indicates he can’t stick at shortstop.

Top-two Rookie of the Year finishers who were Top 100 prospects on at least two preseason lists at Baseball America, ESPN and MLB Pipeline are automatically credited with a full service year.

A player who meets the aforementioned prospect criteria, entered the year with less than 60 days of service and spent enough time on the MLB roster to earn a full service year independent of the awards finish would net their team a bonus draft choice with a top-two finish.

Walker & Winn would be my two untouchables (I prefer Winn over Walker for overall game, even though Walker has the better hit tool).

As Bob Reed indicated, I think a package for Murphy starts with Gorman & Liberatore.

Carlson I would want as the headliner for Bryan Reynolds.

    Sign Quintana, trade Matz.

DeJong has negative trade value. You either have to release him as the Cubs did with Heyward, or keep him and hope he is serviceable.

Yes, there are at least 8 teams that have been linked to Murphy.

Toronto has three catchers, will probably trade one for an outfielder.

I would love to pull off a trade with Pittsburgh for Brian Reynolds. He would solve so many problems for us. Can play CF, hits for power, modest salary. Of course we would have to give up several top prospects.

Can greatly diminish the prospect cost by sending Carlson back as part of the package.

The issue I have with ranking Hence above Burleson is that for most of the year, Hence was limited to 50 pitches per game. He was barely seeing hitters twice in a game, much less three times.

I believe it was Wacha who used to be phenomenal the first time through the order, even in seasons he had an ERA of 4-5.

I’ll go with Burleson at 4.

    You undercounted Burleson by one

Yes, the Rays have made the playoffs, but they refuse to invest in their success.

Tampa Bay was chosen because it already had a stadium built (and it is one of the largest MSA’s with plenty of retirees with money).

Part of the reason they don’t draw fans is where the current stadium is, part of it is because they constantly churn the roster to keep payroll low. They refuse to build a stadium with their own money, and are leveraging the possiblity of moving to Canada to get taxpayers to pay the majority of their new stadium.

Must be nice to be a billionaire and expect government handouts to increase your business value/net worth.

Yes. MLB needs to wake up to the fact that teams that cry poor actually hurt the overall revenue of MLB.

In general, I am against salary floors, but MLB teams make over $100 million per year from the MLB contract before they factor in their own local TV contracts and gate revenues. They should have to spend at least what they make from MLB, yet we see teams running out there with payrolls for $40-60 million.

“Moneyball” wasn’t genius. The Oakland A’s pioneered welfare for billionaires.

It seems like maybe STL has outgrown other TV markets.

No. St. Louis is still in the bottom 10 in terms of market size. Other teams (Cubs) couldn’t stand the Cardinals getting a pick, given the Cardinals are consistent.

I mean, the Oakland A’s are in a Top 5 market, and they got their revenue sharing back.

It would seem the issue is with Marmol. We can look at how he used Woodford when Woodford was on the roster.

The demotion to Memphis was Mo – but Marmol had gone weeks without using Woodford at that point.

There clearly seems to be something there.

Mozeliak indicated Matz would finish out the year as a reliever because there won’t be enough time to build him back up as a starter.

    Overall, he’s been pretty good.

The major question is his seeming issue with Woodford.

But as you indicated, he is riding the bats while they’re hot, which is a good thing.

I see zero reason to bring in an outfielder. You have Burleson and Gomez. Then, they should be able to keep at least one of DeLuzio or Hurst as an emergency CF.

Yeah, Hudson only goes 4-5 innings per outing. You pretty much have to figure you are either going to piggyback Pallante or Woodford on his starts.

Or you can just blow the entire bullpen.

Marmol’s refusal to use Woodford is beyond idiotic now

My point was, even with the strikeouts, he is still getting on base at a decent clip, which figures to increase as he becomes more acclimated to major-league pitching.

Yeah. That was my thought when I saw them bring him in.

But the ball has to hit his bat first. I know lots of people like his slugging numbers and forget about his strikeouts when he hits long balls.

He has a .320 OBP, which is higher than Carlson and Edman.

That’s too much of an immature stance.
