I thought Goldy started hitting better when they moved him to batting second, about a week ago, but I haven’t checked the batting order splits. It’s NFL draft month, which took a ton of research.

Thanks, a good article BW, which clearly shows the pros and cons in managing Carlsons workload.

Baders gone. Carlson is “I’m him”. Noot in CF is out of position. Mercado is AAAA. There is always free agency, if the FO wants to pony up the big bucks and continue to ignore pitching, again. A young affordable Varsho type costs a top 5-10 prospect overall, in trade.

The best case is Carlson in CF. Play him.

We need Carlson to be the center fielder, and hit.

Mo has his own agenda, and it’s about getting one or more of Carlson, O’Neill and Burleson hot so he can thin the OF ranks at the deadline.

I like a future OF of Noot, Carlson and Walker. Now Carlson has a better opportunity to claim CF as his, or fail, and the org moves on.

I wasn’t in favor of Walker making the roster. His ST BB/K was very similar to his mlb BB/K, but, he helped sell tickets and Mo avoided the pushback of demoting him after ST.

That BB/K defines every batters ability to be selective and competitive in the strike zone. Walker wasn’t ready, and he proved it quickly, which resulted in a small sample size.

As BW acknowledged, we can just as easily lose without him, as with him.

This doesn’t mean the Walker demotion wasn’t justified. He’s been forced to play out of position, and his D is not mlb ready as an outfielder.

I made the comment before his demotion, that I’d rather hide Walkers glove at DH rather than Gormans. For me, no contest, and Gorman is no glove first 2Bman.

Walker finished his first call up with an overall .718 ops and 101 ops+, respectable, with a couple offensive red flags.

His first 12 games he posted a .849 ops on a .382 BAbip. His next 8 games a .481 ops on a .294 BAbip. He cooled off, and Mo pulled the plug while his overall was at least respectable. It was the right call.

His BB/K stands at 3/20, which is a 24/162 pace over 162 games. It’s a 6.67 K per BB. Not mlb ready in this area.

His GB% is 58.5%, a rate we would praise our pitchers for.

His demotion says nothing about his future, absolutely nothing. He has the opportunity to make some adjustments. His maturity at such a young age convinces me he will make them, given an appropriate amount of time, and be better for it when he returns.

Mo needs playing time for his trade deadline outfielders. Walker isn’t getting traded and Mo had every opportunity to trade Noot and didn’t.

It’s O’Neill (salary), Carlson and Burleson who Mo wants to play regularly and hopefully at least one raises their production and trade value. Walker just complicated this.

I thought the previous time thru the order influenced the Mikolas pull. I believe Crawford and Wade both got on? and Mikolas got out of it vs Pederson.

I liked that Cabrera is not someone you dig in on, whereas Mikolas you can more so, a little fear factor to think about.

The decision process was correct, because we got “good Cabrera”. If Cabrera stinks, Marmol is an idiot, even tho the decision was correct.

The Mikolas/Cabrera decision was numbers based off of past performance, and it played out very similar. You have to know the past individual matchup numbers and handedness splits to understand most bullpen decisions.

3/20 BB/K, similar to his ST numbers. Elite players have gaudy OBP’s. Work the zone young man, take the walks when they are there.

Not imperative you understand why everyone is so high on Noot, Rats. Just remember that every time we tried to trade with this winter, the other team wanted Noot in return.

I think it’s pretty lame to lay everything at the managers feet when the players are playing like crap, but hey, enjoy the bash-fest.

We are not slugging. When Edman has more HR’s and a higher SLG% than Goldy, Arenado, O’Neill, Contreras, Burleson, Carlson and Walker……
I guess we should bat Tommy boy at cleanup!

When Gorman cools off, and he will for a spell, play him daily.

Edman is currently posting a career low K% and a career high BB%.

Donovans BAbip last season, of nearly .040 over mlb avg, was a valid regression candidate. Now that he’s .003 over, his K per BB has gone from 1.17 to 3.00, his line drive % is down and pop-up % has doubled, he looks less like a world beater.
Why? Last season Donovan went to the opposite field 73% as much as he pulled. This season he’s at 35% of his pull rate. If/when he gets his Jon Jay opposite field stroke back, he numbers will improve. The numbers say his barrel is out front (early).

They should tell the starters we need 6 IP, how that turns out for you is up to you.

I didn’t mind the pull of Mikolas, Mike. He supported his start with Thompson and Gallegos, which is as good as we have to offer in a tie game, and Thompson finished Mikolas inning with no RS.

At 93 pitches and two HR’s on the books I didn’t want to see Mikolas face Kelenic and Pollock again. They had gone 3 for 4 vs Miles (HR, 2 doubles and a K).

Thompson deservedly got the loss but I don’t have Marmol at fault here.

He lost me at “the starting rotation is average, or slightly below it”. The rotation is currently 29th by BR and 25th by Fangraphs.

They stink and no list of 30 names changes that. The commitment by the paying fans is not being matched by ownership.
