    Cards get Lindor ($17M? in 2020 $24M? in 2021) and Hand (7.6M in 20 and 10M in 21) – Take on $25M
Indians get CMart, Bader, Adolis Garcia (Puig light) and Woodford – Cards Shed $12M

I would do that deal in a heartbeat but I doubt the Indians would. We would be getting two of their best players for one established pitcher with shoulder question marks, a defensive OF who hasn’t proven he can hit, and two prospects who may or may not be big leaguers. I think it would take much more than that to get Lindor and Hand.

I understand everyone wanting the Brewers to lose. Just keep in mind that if they lose too many the Cubs could sneak into a wild card spot and we do not want to see that. Let’s let the Crew win a couple more while we sweep the Dbacks and it will be a win win.

What would be nice is for this weekend’s series not to matter at all for either team.

That list seems accurate to me. In my opinion the only one of the “outs” that might make the roster is Cabrera. Who would he displace? Fernandez maybe.

No way. Discussing the Cubs meltdown and looming shakeup is about as fun as it gets. I could do this all day.

I find it amusing that they are going to make Maddon the scapegoat. Let’s see if David Ross or Joe Girardi can do any better with that pitching staff. I am assuming they will have to trade some core position players for pitching this winter if they want a chance to reclaim the NLC next year.

I love the Diaz idea too and that is exactly the package I would offer the Mets.

    23. Tony Locey: The 3rd round pick had a bit of a slow start with Peoria but he comes with a lot of upside. I imagine the organization expects him to have a big 2020.

    24. Juan Yepez: I thought Yepez had a very solid year and the organization must have thought so also because he made it from Peoria all the way to Springfield. His numbers aren’t eye popping and he may or may not make it to St. Louis but he is a very steady , above average minor league player and at age 21 he still has time to make a name for himself.

    25. Alex Fagalde: He is one of my favorite players in our system. I like overachievers. A former 30th round draft pick without elite stuff just keeps climbing the ranks. He was one of the best pitchers in the FSL then got promoted to Springfield. He had some good starts at AA then got hurt, came back and wasn’t as effective. I predict another solid season in 2020 that will see him go to Memphis. At age 25 time isn’t on his side but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t make it to St. Louis eventually.

    26. Brendan Donovan: Donovan flies under the radar and most rankings won’t have him this high but he seems like a very solid player to me. His numbers at Peoria this year were above average and he played almost everyday and even got a small taste of AAA. This system is loaded at 3B so he will need to branch out in order to move up but I think he projects as an adequate utility player at the big league level.

I wouldn’t trade Carlos as long as Hicks is out.

My proposed trade was for Brad Hand. He is one of the best relievers in the game.

After watching what happened to Kimbrel and the Cubs over the weekend, I think it’s practically insane to trade CMart with no proven reliever to replace him.

    This is true.

Not having Baez, Rizzo, Hamels, and Russell at full strength hurt them some no doubt but their real problem all year has been the bullpen and that was very evident this past weekend. Their situational hitting against anyone not named Pittsburgh has been spotty too, not to mention their shoddy defense and baserunning. The Cardinals are just more fundamentally sound this year.

Having said all of that the key to the entire series was probably us finding a way to win Thursday night. That really set the tone. If the Cubs come back and win that game in dramatic fashion things could have snowballed in a different direction. Thankfully it went or way and we got into their heads, which is a role reversal.

I would look into a deal with Cleveland.

CMart and JMart to the Indians for Brad Hand and a top 20 prospect. At one time I was interested in Kluber but the injuries seem to be piling up with him. He would be risky.

I’m sure I will catch at least half of the game. Not sure I will make it all 9 innings since it is a 8:40pm start on a work night. On the other hand I may decide what the heck this is a pennant chase so I should stay up until midnight.

Here are the home/away ERA splits for 2019.

    Flaherty: 2.55 home
    3.38 away

    Hudson: 2.89 home
    4.13 away

    Mikolas: 3.01 home
    5.40 away

    Waino: 2.08 home
    6.03 away

Mikolas was good at Wrigley yesterday but for the most part has been very bad on the road this year. I can see your idea about Hudson’s lack of experience might play better at home though. It will be interesting assuming we nail the division down.

I think I would prefer Flaherty and Hudson to start on the road then have Mikolas and Waino do the home games.

You said yourself that your goal was for the Cards to go farther than the Cubs this season. That has already been 98% accomplished (Cubs playoff chances are 2%), so you will very soon have to give credit where due.

That is correct and when it happens I will.

I have never said that my expectations were anything higher than that. I am not in the world series or bust crowd.

To my main man gscott, who I always enjoy reading, when the games really counted…. the Cubs ain’t that good.

It was a glorious weekend Ny. No doubt about it.

Now let’s make so those Cubs are eliminated from the playoffs altogether so Theo can tear it down and Merlot Joe can go elsewhere.

May not be the correct thread but I’d like to issue an apology to Mo for doubting him at the beginning of the season and middle of the season.

A little too early to coronate Mo as King of the Land. We still have a little work to do.

While it appears that the FO’s decision to stand pat is going to work out I am still trying to figure out if our success down the stretch is because of the FO or in spite of the FO.

It would be hard to prove either way and I suppose it really doesn’t matter. I go by the Al Davis motto of “just win baby.” We do that and Mo will deservedly get the fans off of his back.

The Cubs have six games left this year and will win them all. That will put them in the Wild Card game and they will go on to win the world series from there.

Rat if that happens I will have to go stock up on more Mylanta.

That is why I have mixed feelings on the Brewers this week. On the one hand I want them to lose so the Cards can clinch faster but on the other hand I don’t want them to lose too many to give the Cubs any faint hope of squeaking into the wild card. What we really need is for the Cards, Brewers, and Nats to all win the next few days.

Is there any chance the Pittsburgh freaking Pirates could show a pulse and at least beat the Cubs once this week? Come on Pittsburgh you are pathetic!

This past weekend was probably the most glorious stretch of Cardinal baseball since Game 6 and 7 of the 2011 World Series. I mean we literally couldn’t have scripted it any better.

There are still two more things I want to see happen this week:

    1. Cards clinch the NLC.
    2. Cubs get officially eliminated from the playoffs.

When those two things happen I will breathe a sigh of relief and know that we have broken the streak of not advancing further than them since 2014.

Best case scenario is that CMart is in the rotation next year and we trade for Brad Hand in the off-season, assuming Hand is healthy.

Probably won’t happen but I would like to see a bullpen acquisition since Hicks probably won’t be ready until mid season and we don’t know if Hicks will be back to his old self when he does come back.

I think the Cubs have to be so shellshocked right now we have a good chance of getting the sweep tomorrow.

We might as well dance on the grave while we can. They have done enough of it at our expense. I seem to remember a certain team in blue from Chicago celebrating and taking pics on the Busch Stadium turf a year or two ago. Karma is a ______.

If the Pirates have any pride as professional players and has human beings they would try to elevate their game over that disgraceful performance at Wrigley last weekend. That was embarrassing.

Maybe they can beat the Cubs a time or two this next week to make sure the Cubbies don’t make the playoffs.

I wonder where Maddon will manage next year. San Francisco? Philadelphia?

Who will the Cubs get? Joe Girardi? David Ross?
