At the game tonight. Place is rockin’! Now need Yelich to DP after hit by Cain.
Finally hitting like they mean it. Plus Mikolas’ strong performance means possible sweep today. Good confidence builder going into tomorrow’s series w/Brewers. Just Need Jack to pitch well. I do wish we had Wong back, Munoz makes me very nervous at second.
Miles gives two back, need to put these guys out now.
Tyler O’Neil whiffs at two sliders then belts one out for the walk off. Really needed that! Looking for the sweep tomorrow!
Yadi ties it up! Takes him an hour to round the bases, but nicely done!
Home plate ump better start calling strikes for Waino like he’s doing for Rodriguez.
Brebbia in. Let’s see if our BP is ready for the end of season push. We’ll know tonight.
I hope Gomber can handle Freddie Freeman, he’s the one that concerns me the most.
Finally our offense showed up! A little 12 game win streak starting tonight would be nice.
Pugs, sounds like you were a natural switch hitter with untapped talent. Oh, what could have been! Ha!
The Dodgers relief pitcher Venditi is a “switch pitcher.” Can throw both left and right and has a glove that allows him to switch hands on the mound. But he can only pitch with one arm for each batter, right or left. Can’t switch arms during an at bat. They say you can see something in every baseball game you’ve never seen before. That’s it for me!
Only the second lead they’ve had in this series. The other followed Wisdom’s grand slam the other night. Hoping for better results tonight.
The TBA pitcher is now Ross Stripling, 2.61 ERA, 8-3, RHP. Tough way for Cards to close the series trying to avoid a sweep. And with ESPN doing the broadcast, I’ll be listening in to our KMOX playcallers.
Waino gave up four quick runs in his last outing. Can’t do that again today and expect to come back, so need to keep him on a short leash and keep Ross ready from the first pitch. And keep Cecil in street clothes.
40 games ago I predicted a 84-78 season (Playoff Chances thread). Could be prophetic, but I hope not! Maybe we can win the last 13 games and take the division, but on their current trend line (3-6 for the last nine games), they will have trouble breaking 85. Biggest trouble area is the bullpen—it’s not contender quality and hasn’t been for a few years, three to be exact. The end of season push looks pretty bleak right now.
17-4, final. When it comes to our team, so many problems, so little time…
Agree. The FO was delusional that they had a playoff team when they fired Matheny. Schildt has done better for sure, but we need a manager who has an instinct for winning.
Puig just clobbered his third HR this game, and fans are booing big time. 13-4 bad guys.
The asymmetric advantage we used to have with Yadi’s leadership, ability to get the best out of every pitcher and ability to throw out runners at second has now been overcome by his inability to run (with or without a hamstring pull). Any ground ball he hits to the infield is an automatic out, not to mention he can’t tag up except at third for deep fly balls. He’s not the same backstop he used to be either. After this season, it’s time for him to start the clock towards the HOF. He’s one of the many changes we need to make. All that said, it’s becoming apparent that August was an aberration.
This September slump needs to end today. They should be told that anyone who gets rung up with runners on will be benched tomorrow. And if they’re not swinging on first pitch strikes, the coaches, Willie included, should be in their face. This isn’t rocket science, base runners are needed to win games.
Pugs, that’s an awesome post-game celebration! Just don’t cook your dumplings before they…whatever!? (Can’t think of what!) SOSF is a good way to come down off that post-win euphoria, back when old Michael Douglas was a credible actor!
So far Cards are putting good wood on Buhler’s pitches just nothing to show for it yet, but I think they’ll pop in an inning or two. Need Jack to settle down too.
Approaching must win territory tonight. We don’t want to be in a position where we need help to get in the WC. So time to put a stop to these Dodgers.
Here’s what I’m hoping gets our guys going tonight. On sale at your local St Louis metro area Schnucks supermarket! But sold out promptly within hours. I did get some, and it’s very tasty. Let’s hope they have some in the dugout to help make up that 4 run deficit!
Fortunately Kershaw is not the dominant pitcher he was 3-4 years ago. I like our chances with Gomber on the mound, but hitting concerns me. LA will be our biggest challenge for the 2nd WC spot, so we need at least a split over the next 4 games to keep this from getting beyond our reach. Schildt’s message is our destiny is in our own hands…which is a good approach as we face mostly playoff contenders through Sep.
I’m trying to visualize a playoff team here, but can’t just yet. Several opportunities w/runners on third and 0 or 1 out, and couldn’t score. That’s not playoff quality situational hitting. I know our guys want to win, but desire and execution are two completely different things. Time to step up guys. If they really are “professional hitters” as they like to call themselves, then they ought to be able to get the ball to the outfield at least. Period, dot.
Our biggest hope tomorrow may be the Kershaw killer Matt Adams. Scary thought since he’s .186 since rejoining the Cards.
Gotta give credit where credit is due. Adams comes through in a pinch and puts one over the fence. He’s now 5 for 32 (.156) since coming back to the Cards, so lots of upside for sure.
Good hitting after Adams strikes out! 4-4.
