We know Gorman and Liberatore confirmed they are invited.
I am not sure Herrera belongs in he top 100, bt Amaya does not seem to belong either. And Herrera seems to be a better prospect overall. Both players defense needs work. Nice to hear that Herrera is said to be a hard worker, and listens to his coaches.
From years past, 17 releases seems like a high number. Is that correct?
it looks like Gettysburg Eddies is still alive and kicking. Wonder how far it is from Gettysburg to our minor league team the State College?
I am also am excited about our bullpen options. We have a number of good young arms. Whoever loses the starting competition should help the bullpen. Maybe not a good comparison, but the Royals have a solid closer, and maybe 2-3 good relievers. Our weak link might be Gant or Webb, and even then they had a lot of good moments in 2019. Year to year a bullpen’s performance can change, but I see many options, not including pitchers like Whitley and Elledge, among others that could pitch in the Lou inn 2020. My sleeper is Derian Gonzalez, who almost made team a few years ago. I figure if the Cards resigned him, they must see something.
Warner and Krucinski could be added as well. Perhaps get a look at them as relievers.
Oviedo should be on the list. Maybe Derian Gonzalez if he is healthy. You only get one qualifying offer for a player. Doesn’t matter if they accept or not. They cannot get another offer ever.
I wish defense mattered more to getting into the hall. Rolen and Edmonds would be shoe ins.
Konerko and Jason Giambi, really? Being someone’s friend doesn’t mean you should vote for them? I also remember Ron Darling getting a vote.
My only contention with a Yadi extension is that has to take less money, a la Wainright.
Not a good idea to send Jack down unless he is pitching poorly, or is injured. If anything they should be looking to lock him up to an extension. Buy out some of his arbitration time and free agent years. Especially of the uncertainty of a new bargaining agreement coming up.
With the trade of 3 outfielders doesn’t help Carlsons odds to make the team? Also, no guarantee they are adding another outfielder. Dean should help minor league depth, but wouldn’t be much more than a platoon player. And more at bats in Spring Training for the outfielders.
Deans defensive numbers are not good. Another question is he a AAAA player? Maybe he only hits minor league lefties? The good thing is they only traded an outfielder for him that is at least 4 or 5 years away minimum.
Any news on Gingery. We hear rumors of a second Tommy John surgery last summer. Can this be confirmed? That would be a darned shame.
Several things don’t jive with me on the reports.
1) Seijas hitting 97 mph? I watched him 2 or 3 times, and he was 90-91, maybe 93 a time or 2.
2) Rondon being an arm strength guy only? He seems more of a pitcher than a thrower, and is my top starting prospect because he misses so many bats, and impressed at Springfield;\
3) Yepez, Gil, and Ramirez seem ranked too high, and Williams too low among others.
You mean Ryan Ludwick? What a monster year he had in 2008.
Dean apparently has 2 options left.
I find it conflicting that the Rockies don’t have to take on salary, yet the Cardinals would have to move Carpenter, and/or Fowler to make Arenado’s hefty salary fit in.
I am curious about Wongs lack of exit velocity per Baseball HQ. When trying to bunt, hitting to the opposite field, or hitting with 2 strikes the velocity would be lower. Wong seemed adept at hitting to the opposite field, and I favor that approach.
Is there evidence of Red Sox cheating also? Or, will Cora only be involved?
Brian, what is your opinion of Luhnow? I am thinking you have spoken with him a time or 3. Didn’t he have a rift with Walt Jocketty, or am I thinking of someone else?
I blame the New England Patriots for societies and major league sports teams acceptance of cheating. IMO, the continual Patriots cheating makes the Astros actions look like choir boys. The Patriots got off fairly easily by trading loss of draft picks, and fines for championships.
The Astros penalties are pretty harsh, or they will be soon. I see their window of winning closing similarly to the Cubs in the next 2 years, Their top farm system will be tested, as their whole outfield are free agents at the end of 2020, with Greinke and Verlander have contracts expiring after 2021.With Colorado holding all the cards, no pun intended, there is no reason for them to take bad contracts such as Heyward, Fowler, or Carpenter without multiple major league ready, and top minor league plyers included. The price is way too high.
It is funny how an outfield logjam can suddenly change. Hurst, Capel, and Toerner have to love the 3 outfielders ahead of them being traded. One, or all could see some time in Memphis in 2020.
I am thinking there is a fair chance that Sosa stays with big league club, and Munoz plays multiple positions at Memphis.
