Poncedeleon would be a fine choice. Just don’t do a bullpen game. Maybe Ponce can get thru 5, and have Hudson pitch 2. And go from there.

Does Flaherty start now that we are eliminated? I think he should, since the game is still meaningful the Brewers and the Cubs.

What happens if Colorado wins the division and the Cards tie the Dodgers?

Didn’t know we are chasing the Dodgers now. Maybe it won’t happen, but just before you just have to keep winning.

Couldn’t really come up with a lefty relievr off the top of my head. Where is a Billy Wagner type when you need him?

I say we trade for a high end lefty reliever. Maybe a couple 40 man prospects. Even a righty would help. Kill 2 birds with one stone. No pun intended. Use Cabrera or Layne out of pen. Maybe target Strickland from the Giants, as they surely will be looing to rebuild. (Which they should have done last year) Or add Bumgarner to the wish list, if a contract extension could be had. The Giants ought to be good trading partners for us.

Wow, it would be crazy if the Cards could play the Cubs in the Wild Card game. It might happen if the Cards can get their act together.

They have the season series versus the Rockies also. And the Dodgers.

Wow, how about a lefty reliever? A good one would have helped tonight. We have been fortunate and not needed one. And Cecil needs to be gone. He is a waste of a roster space. Need to prune Mayers and Cecil. Maybe Mayers you try and outright. A blind man could have seen our problems. Schreve is no answer, and I don’t care what his ERA is. My eye tells me he throws 92 tops, and really only has the splitter as an out pitch. Like Cecil it is a chase pitch. Really not sure why we didn’t add Cabrera. It couldn’t hurt. Or if you can Guilmet a chance, why not Tommy Layne?

Let’s get the win tonight. It should be all hands on deck kind of night. It is also a shame Colorado is lately playing teams that appear ready to play golf.

I think it has been a successful year whether we make the playoffs or not. I believe we are on the right road, and have many prospects. It just comes down to how good these prospects turn out. If Reyes can come back from injury that would be huge, otherwise we may to test the trade waters for an ace. Prospects like Gorman, Hudson, Helsley, Nunez could have a very high ceiling. The toughest thing for the future is continued player development and managing the roster crunch we have.

With penalties over, I wonder what strategy the Cards will have in July of next year? They had 2 full teams of pretty talented DSL players with successful results. Granted, some will come stateside in 2019. But it would seem there wouldn’t be a need for as large a number of players as this year. So maybe trading prospects for cap money and trying to go with a range 500k to 1.5 mill might be the way to go.

2020 outfield of Thomas, Bader and O’Neill has the potential of being among the best in baseball.

Lane Thomas looks like he might be the real deal. All the hoohaw about Cuban outfielder signings, and he may be better than both. I want to see another big year, and I think he should move way up in the rankings. 2 things in the way, 1) what the cards decide to do with FOwler and his contract, and how O’Neill plays. I see a big improvement in O’Neill next year. Tyler has improved in small increments this year.

Add Schreve to that delete list. I think I would try and outright him just before Rule 5 draft when most all have roster issues. MIght be able to keep him at Memphis.

Looks like Gallegos might be what we got for Voit. Schreve looks a lot like Cecil.

Urias, Schrock and Fernandez may not be protected. Although I would prefer they go with then kids, Wainright may get a 1 year deal with the way he has pitched lately.

Here’s is to hoping O’Neill has figured things out, and is the starting right fielder the rest of this year and beyond.

I really didn’t want him the rotation, but what has Wainright done differently the last couple of games? Maybe changing between a harder and slower curve more? Or is his cutter helping? Maybe all of these things?

Still can’t believe they didn’t add a lefty reliever. How do you not promote either Layne or Cabrera? You have to add Cabrera any way, or risk losing him in the Rule 5 draft. So the choices are Webb or Cecil? Ughhhh
