Yes, he certainly deserved better. There is no shortage of people to blame. Or you can just lay back, forget about winning and just enjoy the occasional beautiful moments as they come around, however infrequently.
June 13, 2021 at 11:03 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 65 thread – Sunday, June 13 at Cubs #163836Well, we’re offering up our box of chocolates tonight – Carlos “you-never-know-what-you’re-gonna-get” Martinez. Perhaps the Carlos with the crunchy center will turn up. Then again, most likely he won’t.
My entire youth and baseball playing days – grade school, high school, college – passed by without a single NL pennant in St. Louis, until that glorious year of 1964. If I could survive the battering disappointments of all those seasons (despite having some of the best players of all time) I guess I can weather this one too. A real Cardinal fan is always a Cardinal fan. (I did have a brief hiatus in the early 1990s when I was working in Toronto and joined temporarily in cheering for the Blue Jays during their two great WS seasons).

Au contraire, Mike. Your gang has been consistent – consistently bad.
June 12, 2021 at 6:05 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 64 thread – Saturday, June 12 at Cubs #163779Whoever dreamed up playing Saturday baseball at night? Think I’ll just save myself the heartburn and read about it over Sunday morning tea and croissants.
Din-din, for what it’s worth, was mushrooms, green peppers, bacon bits and Boursin cheese baked in a puff pastry, along with a crunchy green salad.

June 11, 2021 at 4:30 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 63 thread – Friday, June 11 at Cubs #163699As I said, I’ve stopped worrying about winning or losing and just watch the baseball. Much more comfortable on the mental health.
Rah Cardinals anyway.

June 11, 2021 at 3:14 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 63 thread – Friday, June 11 at Cubs #163680I much preferred 5-1.
Well, let’s get back to the job at hand.
June 11, 2021 at 3:06 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 63 thread – Friday, June 11 at Cubs #163677Well, that came apart quickly. Still, I wouldn’t have yanked Oviedo just yet. On the other hand, nobody made me manager.
June 11, 2021 at 2:49 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 63 thread – Friday, June 11 at Cubs #163674Nice game so far. Nice to see Oviedo in control of things and even better, scoring a coupla runs.
June 11, 2021 at 2:27 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 63 thread – Friday, June 11 at Cubs #163669Oviedo looking comfortable.
June 11, 2021 at 12:36 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 63 thread – Friday, June 11 at Cubs #163665I have decided that I am no longer going to get my shorts in a twist about winning or losing and will from now on merely sit back and enjoy the game of baseball, which I truly love. Let the game begin. May the best team win. Unless that team is the Cubs, of course, which can’t possibly be the best team.
As for din-din tonight, there will be none. This afternoon is the monthly meeting of wifey’s reading club, which always ends with tea and an array of scrumptious cakes, which effectively kills everyone’s appetite for dinner. My only hope is that she returns home with a piece or two for me. Otherwise it’s a search of the fridge for an errant piece of chicken or chunk of cheese.

June 6, 2021 at 5:08 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 60 thread – Sunday, June 6 vs. Reds #163371Well, Rondon swings at a 3-2 pitch a yard off the plate to end it.
June 6, 2021 at 3:09 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 60 thread – Sunday, June 6 vs. Reds #163345Somebody said it earlier today, this team just lacks fire in the belly.
June 6, 2021 at 2:03 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 60 thread – Sunday, June 6 vs. Reds #163336Hey, why not sign me? I could prolly still throw as far as the catcher.
June 6, 2021 at 1:57 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 60 thread – Sunday, June 6 vs. Reds #163331I’m sure Waddell will be of immense help to our needy team.
June 6, 2021 at 9:44 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 60 thread – Sunday, June 6 vs. Reds #163315I’m trying so hard not to be pessimistic. I’ll grasp at any straw – a 3-for-five Goldy day, a strong seven innings by Gant with no scary jams, some beautiful-to-watch defensive play, Yadi back in, Carp riding the pine. It’s a warm, sunny day here in southern France. It screams for a win.
In the event you’re wondering what din-din will offer, I’m led to believe it will be oven-fried chicken, baked potatoes slathered with butter and snap beans cooked with onions. Dessert, if it’s permitted, will probably just be a dish of Haagen-Dazs.

June 5, 2021 at 3:42 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 59 thread – Saturday, June 5 vs. Reds #163265Well, at least we’ve got Edman who can play baseball.
June 5, 2021 at 3:12 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 59 thread – Saturday, June 5 vs. Reds #163249Damn those walks come around and bite.
June 5, 2021 at 2:47 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 59 thread – Saturday, June 5 vs. Reds #163241Well that was a letdown.
June 5, 2021 at 1:56 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 59 thread – Saturday, June 5 vs. Reds #163229So far so good, first two innings.
Din-din was very common tonight – steak, french fries and a salad. Another inning or two and I’ll go make myself a chocolate sundae.
Rah Cardinals.
June 3, 2021 at 3:35 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 56 thread – Wednesday, June 2 at Dodgers #163092Oh my! What a thorough thrashing. The squeaker I predicted turned out to be more like the clanking of a prison door. Thank goodness we have at least one sub-.500 team to recover with before going to Wrigley.
June 2, 2021 at 1:22 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 56 thread – Wednesday, June 2 at Dodgers #163065This game is much too late for me, but as I just finished a nice din-din of mussels cooked in white wine and shallots with french fries, followed by a healthy dessert of vanilla ice cream and fresh raspberries, I feel another squeaker coming on. Carlos will need all the help he can get from those rubber arms in the pen but I have a feeling we will prevail.
Rah Cardinals!
June 2, 2021 at 11:34 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 56 thread – Wednesday, June 2 at Dodgers #163058“Tell you what…”
Not as many times as he says “Right there…”
But he’s still by far the best of the bunch.
June 2, 2021 at 11:18 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 55 thread – Tuesday, June 1 at Dodgers #163057Bravo to that Sara Wexler who wrote the story about yesterday’s game on the Card website. Finally, one of these MLB writers who actually knows how to write a game story, describing the game for those who didn’t see it instead of 400 words of blah blah and cutesy comments about obscure facts. Bless you my child.
