More skeletons in Pete Rose’s closet.
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/phillies-cancel-pete-rose-ceremony-amid-allegations-20170802.htmlNate, you and I agree but still disagree. I am pretty sure if they had acquired a reliever, you would have criticized them for just adding a mediocre slug. It seems clear they have punted on this season and that could be the best long-term plan – depending on how they approach this winter.
P.S. I also interpreted Girsch’s comment to suggest the team’s problems are more fundamental than can be fixed by adding a set up man. If that is his assessment, I agree.
We should not be surprised that the message is spun to meet the current situation. Too bad whoever got that quote did not follow up with your question.
I’ve said over and over that I believe the relievers are a symptom of the bigger problem – the anemic offense. Too many games are tight. Pen is expected to hold a one-run lead for three innings. Cannot always be perfect. Wish I had time to mine the data to back this up.
Uh, oh. Looking like that Freeman at third base thing has been scrapped. Braves come to StL in about 10 days.
Snit confirmed Freeman will be at first base on a daily basis moving forward. Adams will frequently be used in left field

Regarding prospect rankings, I lowered Sosa and Alvarez and brought Seferina up, but not yet to their rankings. Edman is now hitting better so he could rebound a bit in my August rankings.
My guess is that Sosa’s year is done. Alvarez still has a month to redeem what has been a lost year. Seferina is less interesting if he has to play third. I will be watching this closely during August.

Nate, The Cardinal Way is a manual used to teach minor leaguers fundamental play.
Ortiz offers his commentary on the deadline.
Perhaps if the #STLCards fans who attended Christian Day had prayed more for Darvish, Gray and Donaldson it would have happened. Too soon?

Try reloading the page before starting the new thread. Some browsers are holding cookies from when you were not logged in and and “remembering” those settings. This has both kept people from posting as well as members from reading subscriber articles.
I have looked into this, but there seems nothing I can do from this end to influence how your browsers react to the site. Fortunately, the workaround is easy as a page reload clears it right up.
I will be looking for your new thread – ready to disagree with you! 😉

Trade deadline tidbits from Ken Rosenthal.
The Cardinals made an offer to the As for Sonny Gray. Tampa Bay talked with the Cards about Trevor Rosenthal.
I understand the logic, too. But it was probably just as hard to find trades in other years and when all is said and done, they have left the 2017 team to survive on its own. It is the first time in least a decade that they made no trade deadline moves to help the current team.
I am not necessarily disagreeing, but am also not shying away for saying it is what it is.
Mozeliak quotes from today on the no deadline activity.
Molina upping the ante by his newest Instagram post, talking about how he misses Jose Oquendo.

I see the Cubs, Dodgers and Nats all lined up to be good for the next 3-4 years at least.
CHARGE!
Lance Lynn was not moved today. Can confirm #Cardinals are keeping him.
