Lumping all Marlins players together does not seem fair unless they all broke the rules, yet singling out a few may be difficult. I can see a grievance coming if MLB slaps down the entire team.

There is some confusion here about who ranked Thomas and who did not.

BA has included Thomas all along, but MLB has NOT included Thomas, even back to this past off-season. Others who joined us in taking Thomas off their lists last winter include Keith Law/The Athletic, Prospects Live, Baseball Prospectus and BaseballHQ.

The only other major prospect rater who kept Thomas on for this year on that I am aware of is Fangraphs.

So while it may have been a little bumpy getting there, what the community decided here was consistent with the majority. No apologies are warranted.

To the future extension point, I would not assume it will be automatic whenever the team wants. The free agent rules could be different in the next CBA. Also, a potential risk in delaying now is damaging the relationship with the player, who may already feel he belongs in the majors.

Continuing with the example I cited in the article, there have been various rumors in recent years about Kris Bryant turning down extension offers from the Cubs. Maybe the money and years were not right for him, but maybe he is also upset over how service time was used against him. My bottom line reminder is that there are risks with any approach taken.

Nice running catch by O’Neill at the wall in left-center. I don’t think Ozuna would have run that one down last year.

    … and then he blasted a 2-run HR on a full count…

Rats, you do know the team is 2-1, right? Perhaps you should wait a bit to head for the exits.

The Twins won 101 games last season and improved their pitching and their offense this year. Having said that, this IS Homer Bailey pitching, after all…

Euro, the question for me is not if it is prorated. The question of whether it is prorated on 50 games (for a team that only plays 50, for example) vs. prorated on a full 60. That could be a major difference for both salary and service time.

CC, I was thinking about all the incremental MLB salaries the Marlins will have to pay the replacement players, since the COVID players will get their full salaries, too.

Carlos not fooling anyone. Bader made an awful throw from center. Twins already up 2-0 in the second.

Local/State authorities are certainly an x-factor for teams and their opponents. I saw a reference out of Miami that local officials expect the Marlins to quarantine for two weeks when they return home.

It is up to when the Cardinals are ready to entertain media access in Springfield. No word yet, but they said previously it would be this week.

Sounds like some surgery might be on the way for Mikolas. It’s a blow to the starting depth. Hopefully Kim will go back into the rotation now. Maybe Gomber will be the guy though.

    1) My guess would be Cabrera being added to taxi squad.

    2) Or maybe Oviedo, but he would have to added to the 40 man roster.

    1) Depends if he is ready after reporting late.

    2) Maybe Oviedo. No, he would not have to be added to the 40-man, unless activated to be among St. Louis’ 30. No different from Schrock, who is the other taxi squadder.

Think of the taxi squad as minor leaguers/alternate camp players who are just traveling with the big-league team.

Unfortunately, this does not require a new thread. I should be able to find out within a few hours who the taxi squad replacement is.

The Astros just signed 42-year old Fernando Rodney from independent Sugar Land. I wonder if Julian Taveras is still pitching? 😉

Not sure how they are counting this as several players like Soto and Davidson supposedly had positive tests in recent days, but the overall story is good.
