Well Cardinals2016 I think he has a pretty good deal in place if he wanted to take it. Defense or not he’s got a good offer.

It’s a weird situation in Boston. They have a young core of OF’ers and Hanley at DH with Moreland at 1st. They regressed on offense but you still have to think Bradley rebounds a bit a Bennitendi gets better. Hanley 22 million option vests with a shade under 500 PA’s. It would appear they need to move someone.

Seems like the guys who are making out in the FA market are the bullpen guys.

Because He’s coming off a year he’l likely never replicate and his agent see this as a way to parlay this in some sort mega contract.

He’s not more mature. You still see it in the bullpen warming up, how he acts at times on the mound and his appearance.

He’s has ace type stuff no doubt. He’s got a long way to go to be like a King Felix IMO. That’s how good I think he can be if he knocks off the nonsense. We need him more than we’ve ever needed him this year to be the anchor of the rotation with so many questions.

Well the strategy of developing pitching works if you spend the money on outside Free Agents and trades who move the needle towards postseason success.

I’m a little hesitant on the offense and suspect on the pitching and defense but if i had to guess on which part of the team is going to show up almost every night. Its the offense if we can get some repeat performances and keep Fowler in the lineup.

How can these A-holes be angry?

So if I buy the MLB pack and they go on strike or hold out. Does that mean im out the money I fork into it?

I’m sure there’s some irony when Carlos started making money and this suit. However there’s a pattern with Carlos and some of his actions that proves there’s some smoke to this. This Rumor, the reckless way he handled his facebook account with some adult material, the VD suit and some of his actions and looks on the mound.

He makes millions. He should act like a professional. Maybe he’ll learn or maybe he’ll never reach his potential.

You think if indeed it was collusion it was Dewitt who was one of the owners who started it all?

Do you think that they wanted to do more but maybe Bowtie was told to stop and to give the now famous statement at WWU?

I know one thing when the dust settles It’ll be one of the more exciting and frantic signing periods I’ve seen. IT might lead to a strike or lock out at some point but at least it won’t be dull at the end of Feb. lol

I agree Brian. Fowler when healthy was a good asset on offense and I thought he should’ve hit clean up most of the season. I think that Bat plays in OF a lot longer that some people think. I think he can be around a .800 OPS guys at least 3 of the next 4 seasons of his deal. Only question is his health and I think some have reason to worry.

BTW Fowler had career highs in homers and rbi in the lowest about of plate appearances since his rookie season. I know….those stats are meaningless to the crunchers. His defense stunk but will get better now that he’s shifted to a corner. Too bad it isn’t LF where he belongs.

We aren’t as good as the Cubs. Even if we were really even with them they’ll add a starter and be better.

We don’t have a closer. That and the rotation might keep us from being a top 6 team unless the offense is just ungodly and some guys flat out repeat last years production. Plus I’m not sold on the defense being that much better.

They’ve got the option of trading Braun or or even acquiring Darvish. They were 30th in payroll last year and this move for both Cain and Yelich is a steal for them and not a big blip for them.

Could they be the team to land Archer?

And we’ll just sit here and enjoy another 3rd place finish and miss the playoffs again.

Teams are taking advantage of our inactivity the last couple season. Not just teams in the central either.

Well Brian if O’Neill has a better spring then I agree he should be there. However unless some personnel decisions have been stripped from Matheny then he’ll fight lile hell for Bader to be here if its nip and tuck. He has favorites as we all know.

I think a lot of people see Bader in STL due to Fowler appearing to have lost a step and the need of a more pure CF. O’Neill has dabbled in CF but then again they want to play Fowler in RF. So if O’Neill some how makes the roster. I don’t see them with much hesitation putting Fowler or Ozuna in CF should an injury or day off is needed for Pham. Just the way I see things.

That being said Bader is likely the front runner based on Matheny’s familiarity with him from his stint with the team even if O’Neill has a little bit better spring. That is unless all power on personnel has been stripped from MM.

    Bader can. O’Neill can

Forsch Would you start them over Martinez? My guess is they’d have no choice but to play Fowler in CF seeing as they seem hellbent on playing Ozuna in LF.

The only place I want Fowler banished to is LF because he arm sucks and team are going to go hog wild on it with less than 2 out. I can’t believe this team and most of this fan base can’t see that. Ozuna should be in RF. I don’t care if his glove plays better in LF and is gold.

I guess it’s ok depending on what Leone we get.

So I guess what the ownership meant was they were done on the FA market. Lol

So if Pham goes on the DL who plays CF? Ozuna can and Fowler can sort of.

Onyx, I won’t copy the post here, but check out the DeWitt quote I put on the RUMORS thread. He said they could still do more. There are something like 135 free agents still without contracts.

Haha! Yeah he can say that all day but Bowtie and his numbers geeks will likely find some injury risk in all of them like they did guys like Nicasio and Reed. Play the kids they’ll say at some point.

135 FA left. They’ll not be in play for one of the big boys and all of the closer or 8th inning guys I’d look at as closers are off the Board. Holland is still there but if you didn’t think any of the others were worth it then why go to him unless the price is right. it’s the Bowtie-Mozeliak way.

The Cards and Cubs are close if you’re talking 5-6 games. They have a strong Bullpen and it appears on paper a better rotation. They’ve got elite hitters in 2-3 positions. They may as well add another arm for the rotation. So if you think we’re close then yeah we a little closer then last season.

WC hopes are what were holding on to. Forget the division without a closer. You’ll see it by May 1st.

All these Bullpen guys are STILL AVAILABLE
    32 Tony Watson LP 7-4 3.38 10 saves 71 games
    35 Brian Duensing LP 1-1 2.74 68 games
35 Sergio Romo RP 3-1 3.56 55 games (former SF Giants closer)
    35 Matt Albers RP 7-2 1.62 2 saves 63 games
    37 Matt Belisle RP 2-2 4.09 9 saves 62 games
    33 Tyler Clippard RP 2-8 4.77 5 saves 67 games
    39 Pete Moylan 0-0 3.49 79 games
    33 Bud Norris RP 2-6 4.21 19 saves 60 games
    32 Fernando Abad LP 2-1 3.30 1 save 48 games

And those are some decent options for 7th and a couple for 8th inning work. They can do the job on most nights and have a good seat on the bench when Gregerson is getting tattooed like a Pinata in the 9th every other outing. However our pen has been labeled as good enough and we’ve heard names of bowtie’s prized prospects being thrown out there. So that tells me that Dewallet is likely closed when it should be open!

Yeah payroll flexibility! I honestly think the organization looks at the fans as some bucktooth hillbillies who pay for cable and don’t have internet. A couple of us color within the lines and have all of our teeth and have seen this before.

And this posturing someone referred. I compare it to waiting for a teaser after the Star Wars Movies. Sure there’s that 1% chance but deep down inside you know this isn’t Marvel and you’ve wasted ten minutes of your time when you could’ve been on the way home.

I still can’t believe it. Bullpen is “good enough”

Yeah but Nicasio and Reed weren’t long term commitments. You can still figure things out with your assets in the higher levels. I mean Bowman will likely hit the DL after being burned out.
Reyes wont be ready until May 1st barring any setbacks. Lyons I believe was on the DL last season. Reyes might have command issues that may end up him being sent down when he returns, Gregorson will likely be removed from his closer role for a time and your rotation will likely have someone hit the DL. Point being it’s pitching! It’s the most fragile piece of a ball club. You’ll have the opportunity to showcase players on your staff and pen throughout the season. What would it have hurt to make a 2 year commitment to either player and solidify the back end of your bullpen? I get the mileage leaves the door open to a lost or injury riddled season out of two years but that just something you need to stick your neck out and hope for the best. You can’t be gun shy just because some of your signings in the pen have flat out blown up in your face.

Luke Gregorson! I’m still shaking my head. I hope Reyes is ready to roll May 1st. We will need him!

Hicks hasn’t even gotten past A ball. Helsley maybe is a contributor at some point this season. We really can’t afford to dick around like this but it seems that they’ve thrown this team together and it’s what they want.

How can this ownership dumpster dive this pitching staff like it has? It’s borderline neglect with the guy managing in the dugout.

Yeah if they had any intentions on going after Holland they’d held out on that statement. Not saying that with 100% confidence but

If this is it and we add nothing else. Were not making the playoffs again. Not with the staff in current construction.

And Reed at that price and him bluntly saying “I want to play in the midwest”. There’s just no reason we couldnt get that done. Was the 1,000 seats we yanked out for that new terrace the deciding factor???

Seems like a steep price that it appears on paper in normal seasons this team didn’t seem to want to pay.

If they keep him I’m not too worried about it but it would seem Bader would be a better fit. We shall see!

Except he wasn’t back to his old self. No one really knows if he’ll ever get back these bue one things for sure you’ll know if you’ve got the old Greg Holland or the 2017 1.4 whip Holland with a down tick in fastball.
