They’ll lay out the same spiel of the last couple of ST’s that he worked with this guy or that guy and they think they found the fix and they’re encouraged by his progress and his D is great at SS and they think he’ll produce and that they think he’ll contribute and this and that and the other thing…And oh…Mozeliak won’t get any half way good offer over the winter for Dejong.

gscottar…Shumaker would be my choice only for the reasons that as well as being a part of a WS Chamionship team, he also doubled to push the only and winning run across HP in the 1st inning of game 5 of the ’11 NLDS…Haha! All jokes aside, he played all 3 OF positions and a middle IF position in the Big Leagues and although he generated about as much power as an AA battery, he wasn’t at all a bad hitter as a .278 career BA will attest to. In addition to that, for 8 seasons of his playing career, his field manager was Tony LaRussa. I’ve heard Shumaker talk and he strikes me as being pretty sharp and intelligent, so I can’t help but to think he was paying attention while LaRussa was his manager.

ZTR…I’m not sure that would do any good. Carpenter’s 1 for 11 with 9 K’s for the Yankees in the ’22 post-season. He can’t even put the baseball into play.

Well, let’s see…Today’s two LCS games could very well end as Phillies in 5 and Astros in a 4 game sweep. Both the Padres and Yankees could become victims of a “Bloody Sunday.” If that indeed happens, I like the Astros in 5 games over the Phillies in the ’22 WS. We’ll see what happens…

So much for no runs in the post-season…7-6 Phillies in the 5th.

Mozeliak and Marmol both want DeJong in a Cardinal uniform. There’s a good chance the he’s the starting SS with Eddie back over on the right side of the IF for the ’23 opener.

1982willie…I agree, but in the event of a 3 game series, any batting order can go cold in 2 games and be entirely stymied by even marginal pitching. It’s why I think any 3 game series in the post-season is silly.

I think Dusty’s making a mistake letting Brown face Rizzo.

EuroDandy…Yeah, in addition to being an easy out, he can’t even put the baseball into play. Bader’s hit, but has been horrible in CF.

1982willie…Astros pitching is pretty darn good. If they hold on to this 5-0 lead, and they will, it’ll be their 6th postseason win. In a row…

To me the most legitimate baseball comment on that thread was the one that insisted Curt Schilling belongs in the HOF, which he obviously does. In addition to accumulating over 3000 K’s, a 216-146 W/L record, and three 20 win seasons, no one, and I mean no one, was better than Schilling in the post-season. The guy is 11-2 with a 2.23 ERA in 133.1 IP in the post-season. Curt Schilling was no joke.

Speaking of baseball comments, it’s now 5-0 Houston over the Yankees in the 7th. If the Astros hold on, and they will, it’ll be their 6th post-season game win. In a row…

Did Bader wear that mouthpiece when he was a Cardinal? If he did, I don’t remember it.

gscottar…If you looked at both resumes, who would you hire as field manager of your ballclub?

Yankees better be ready to play and win today. The death knell of 0-3 will ring out if Houston wins this ballgame.

Cards667…Well, I’d say the Dodgers, Yankees and quite a few other ballclubs have genuinely displayed that they’re far more committed to winning than have the Marlins. I’d also say that in order to seek the favor of and land him as field manager, the Texas Rangers strongly indicated to Bruce Bochy that he would have more than a reasonable amount of input and leverage concerning upper management decisions. So I’m not certain the likes of a guy like LaRussa are over for organizations that have a strong desire for success, and the hiring of Bochy certainly indicates to me that the Rangers are committed to, and intend to win a WS Championship. What I’m driving at, is that if my name were Skip, the Florida Marlins would be near or at the bottom of the list of Big League organizations that I would consider working for. He could do a lot better and I feel he’ll have better options if he doesn’t take the bait on the first opportunity that presents itself.

I hope someone close to Skip convinces him that he could do a lot better than accepting a job with the Marlin’s ballclub. I don’t think he’ll realize any success in Miami. I think if he bides his time and proceeds with patience, he’ll end up as the field manager with a ballclub that is committed to winning.

“Non-Cardinal topics and posts do not belong in the forum”…I don’t mean to gripe, BW, but that policy genuinely seems to be way more than a little broad in scope and width. The St. Louis, Cardinals are my favorite sports team, but first and foremost, I’m a fan of baseball. I comment and read the comments on this site to embellish the fun and entertainment that I enjoy as a result of being a baseball fan. If you can’t have a little fun, what’s the point, right? I do my best to respect others that may or may not share my views on any particular topic and I genuinely find a good percentage of opposing views as food for thought. Additionally, I certainly don’t take any of my own opinions or views too awfully seriously. You’ll never see me comment on anything that is remotely related to politics, race, or religion on this web-site simply because I consider all three of those subjects to be incredibly boring and wearisome. As for baseball, I feel like it’s a little restrictive to have a policy in place that confines any discussion to Cardinal topics. If I want to comment on the fine quality associated with a limited edition, hand stitched and made in the USA, Bill Buckner model oven mitt, it’s my view that I shouldn’t feel reluctant to do so…Haha!

Both the Padres and Yankees are now placed under the gun, but with a 7 game series still have some air. I’m sure everyone remembers when these LCS were best of 5. Those were some gut wrenchers. I recall a good one in the 1980 NLCS between the Astros and Phillies that went the full 5 games. Old Howard Cosell and Keith Jackson teamed up with Don Drysdale for the TV broadcast on ABC, and with the possible exception of the ’76 ALCS between the Yankees and Royals which also went the full 5 games, it was the most heart pounding best of 5 game LCS that I can remember.
